Thanks a bunch. I had taken my choke mechanism off. You confirmed what that lever does and position shown on carb diagram. GM sold many quad jets and did these tweeks for driveability in many climates.

I appreciate you being a good teacher. I'm not winning any mechanical awards any time soon. So, your videos really help me to understand and learn how a carburetor works. Thank you!

Screw them fast food junkies. I happen to enjoy your vids and, your laid back way of explanations. Keep up the good work. People who go too fast and won't slow down tend to break more than they fix.

That front vacuum brake was the final fix on my Quadrajet, it still had bit of a secondary stumble after a rebuild and thanks to info from your videos, (15 of them at least, lol) I knew to check it. $30 part from NAPA and fixed. Keep up the good work Tyler.

Hey I appreciate you making videos and I love that you like to keep a mopar a mopar and do everything like what they would do at the factory I've just acquired a 1973 Plymouth valiant four with a slant six and for like my summer project I took the original intake and exhaustion and replaced it with a two barrel intake and headers just cause it wasn't running right that's why I wanted to do this and the drivablity would be a lot better and I'm just glad there's more people out there that love what I love keep the videos up

Had an extra piece leftover when rebuilding my quadrajet yesterday and couldn't match up what it was on the diagram. Turns out the piece I have is only half of the part. Good to know what it is and what it's for now thanks

This brings back memories, I've rebuilt dozens of those in the past. The lockout lever is pretty important---the engine will tend to bog if the secondaries are opened when cold. I miss the feel of those huge secondaries opening, what a rush! A Holley can't do that.

I just picked up a 71 olds 98 with a 455 in it. The quadrajet is long gone but maybe ill track one down for it eventually if the mpg of this holley 750 double pumper starts to kill me. Quadrajets run really good once they are tuned in.

Hello buddy, so are you saying it’s safe to remove? I live in Phoenix Az and choke is not Necessary . Well some times. But it always stays on alittle to long. I got a new pull off. It’s a divorce choke style quadrajet 77 Chevy C10 454

There are so many quadrajets, but wish you would show a newer version, one with electric choke.
@dansmith69903 жыл бұрын
you can put an electric choke on any quadrajet. It's just a choke. It literally doesn't make it any different than any other quadrajet. Now... there is an ELECTRONIC quadrajet, commonly called a "feedback quadrajet" but those are fairly rare and you can't do much adjustment to it anyways.

I want to say thank you for these videos, you've bestowed upon me countless pieces of knowledge about these old carburetors that helped me disassemble and rebuild the Dualjet in my factory 305 1979 Camaro. It runs thanks to you. I'm curious if I took a video of it starting up cold and running, and maybe a video of it running after getting up to temperature, if you could tell me your thoughts on how it is running? Do I have my idle set properly? Do I have to mess with the fuel mixture screws? Is my choke set up fine? Does it sound like a vacuum leak, etc. If you could do this for me, I would be thankful. You could even do a commentary over the video and post it so other people can diagnose their own problems as well. If you would be up for this, please let me know, and I'll record it and publish it to youtube/share it with you. Thanks so much for all of your help. Absolutely could not have done it without you and your videos.

What are Buick 800 versions? I have a 69 Buick Wildcat with a Rochester 4 barrel. I don't know anything about carbs so this should be fun.

The carb can flow more air. If the vent tube on the top is cut at an angle that should be an 800cfm version.

Just started watching your videos and enjoy your easy going way of explaining the working of the quadrajet carbs. I feel after watching I could work on and rebuild the 4 barrel carb on my 83 C10 305. How do I identify my carb to order a rebuild kit?
@TylersNeighborhoodGarage4 жыл бұрын
Look on the left side of the carb. On a rib running vertically interior to the throttle linkage there is a number stamped in. It will start with 17082XXX or something close. That's the carb number. Do not confuse that number with the carburetor body casting number which are raised numbers, not stamped.
@bruceallan85483 жыл бұрын
im a bit confused. you have one video where you throw away the lockout lever saying its not needed, and thern this video where it seems your saying its very important. i took mine off but now i think i shoud put it back on! lol. what should i do??
@TylersNeighborhoodGarage3 жыл бұрын
Well basically it comes down to a person's ability or willingness to adjust the automatic choke until it's spot on, because that affects the lockout tab. My views have changed over time, these days I leave the tab in place.

Thank you for all your helpful videos on the Quadrajets, much appreciated. I have a Q-jet 7040244 that will not open the top secondary flaps when the engine is on and warmed up. I noticed the vacuum pump is preventing the top flaps from opening. When the engine is turned off I can open the flaps with my fingers with out much effort. I have taken it apart and I do see the bottom plate allows the bottom secondaries to open w/o any issue. Do you have a suggestion?
@TylersNeighborhoodGarage4 жыл бұрын
Are you sure the vacuum break is preventing the air doors from opening? It acts as a damper to keep the air doors from opening too fast and bouncing back, causing a stumble. On that particular carb there should be two vacuum breaks: a metal one at the rear that acts on the choke, and a plastic one in front that acts on the air doors. It's important that the front vacuum break be connected to the correct port on that carb. On that carb there are two vacuum ports above and below each other on the front right of the carb. The vacuum break needs to be connected to the LOWER of those two ports. A vacuum break needs to be connected to MANIFOLD vacuum, so that the break relaxes as soon as the vacuum signal goes to zero. If it's accidently connected to PORTED vacuum, the break will have a vacuum signal even at heavy throttle and won't relax and let the air doors open. Don't be tempted to unhook the vacuum break, it is there for a reason. If the vacuum break fails, it fails relaxed so that would not be an issue here. Hope this helps point you in the right direction.
@sammysalinas40294 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your input. The answer is yes, when I physically try to force the plates open via lever I can feel the vacuum resisting the bracket from opening the top flaps. When I shut down the engine I can move the same lever that vacuum is attached to and the flaps open freely. I do not have a 2nd Vacuum attached to the carb, when I look up the 70420244 on the internet or the rebuild kit I purchased the picture does not show a 2nd vacuum attached. Is it possible to send pics for confirmation from via email? I do not see an option on sending picks thru this site. I have to say that when I purchased this vehicle (67 Pontiac GTO) I know now this carb did not come with the engine. Thank you for your time.

Great video, and I have a question. I have the electronic quadrajet, but want it to be the regular type. Can I just wire cut off the electronic solenoid and throw it away, then screw in some traditional jets? Maybe should be a smaller sized jet since the metering rods will be missing? I got this idea because I see that Holley carbs sell power valve delete plugs, which is the same thing as a Qjet with metering rods missing? I am really curious what is your opinion about this.
@TylersNeighborhoodGarage7 жыл бұрын
It would be a good idea if you could, but it's not designed to utilize the power piston, which you need to control the metering rod activity. You'd be happier and time ahead by jumping on ebay and picking up the mechanical version of the carb you have. For instance, if you have an '84 Chevy, pick up a '77-80 Chevy carb, same for Olds.

On the fuel inlet on one of these carb the factory has a straight out fuel in let. is there a way to get a 90 degree fuel inlet from another Q-jet to replace the straight one? many thanks for all your videos, big time.
@TylersNeighborhoodGarage7 жыл бұрын
You can't take one from another Qjet, but there are 90 degree fittings in existence that screw in place of the straight-in filter housing. I can't promise that the steel line will still screw in though.
