Watching this . What got my attention was more that he felt force to do these "tutorial videos" when playing team death match ^^ @2:40 . I know you're alot better then your opponents and would cry if I was to face you. But I also love your thought process that you deliberately went into a team deathmatch got the score up so high that you could do this 20-30 seconds tutorial videos somewhere on the map without 1. getting killed. 2. not "damaging" the team score..as you've basically conquering them with double the amount, 40 vs 20. =)

NOTE: I have Bethesda's permission to upload Quake Champions footage. If you are from Bethesda and have a concern, please contact the community manager for Australia. And to clarify, you have to hold your "jump" key down when going up a jump/bounce pad and be near the wall for the trick to work. Keep messing around with it, I'm sure you'll figure it out. Reminder - it's different for Nyx. I'm not sure if it works with all champions yet. Also apparently if you hold "crouch" on jump pads it's better... I still haven't managed to get it to work though: "You'll have an even faster lower recovery from the jump pad, and it works with all characters, regardless of special jump mechanics they may have like walljump." Still need a Quake Champions BETA key? Apparently if you sign up at quake.bethesda.net/ right now you should receive one immediately.

for slash's Q4 crouchsliding, the best way to turn and gain massive speed while doing it, is to hold forward and a strafe key and turn in that direction. just like you would if you were to strafe jump except you dont change directions. however when doing it this way, there is a little bit of a drift so you have to overcompensate when you turn. its the best way to do it and gives you much more speed. just to note, if you for whatever reason, whether it be jumping or falling off a ledge, leave the ground, you must repress crouch to slide again. slash is super underrated and her crouchsliding is extremely power. takes some practice obviously but its worth learning
@RocketJumpNinja7 жыл бұрын
Nice, thanks for the clarification, think I got it mostly right, just need to practice it more.

I totally agree with your comment about Overwatch. As a long time Unreal player I love the fast paced teleporting that gets you back into the fight as fast a possible, and in Overwatch it does feel very slow and with very little to do unless you play a specific hero that can modify their speed, like charging with Reinhardt
@ZephyrinXirdal7 жыл бұрын
Strafejumping as a "minigame within the game" is just perfectly put! I never formulated it like that in my mind, but guess that I always felt exactly like it. :)
@TheLogicalBeast7 жыл бұрын
"it gives you a challenge with the movement, so you'll have something to do on your way back to battle. Kinda like a mini game within a game" GREAT way of putting it Zy, now I feel motivated to work on strafe jumping. I've always had nice timing from playing rhythm games for like 4 years so it shouldn't be too difficult to nail the jump timing for me. And keep up the GOOD work on your videos man, I feel like you're helping me reach a zen like calm with gaming rather than "RAAAAAAARGH" when I lose.

For anyone having trouble, you can hold your jump key down and it will automatically jump upon landing...found this out while playing Anarki a while ago - you can also use it while doing Anarki's style of "bunnyhop" movement (or for those old enough to remember, the Quakeworld movement style / Counter-Strike movement style) so if you're having difficulty getting your timing right just hold your jump key in when you want to make successive jumps.

FYI crouch sliding on Slash doesn't require you to use the strafe keys once the slide is in action. You can do really sharp turns just by looking where you want to go while crouch sliding, it's what makes it such a strong ability. It allows you to carry your strafe momentum into a 90 degree turn around a door, or even near-180 turns if you're careful.

So I've been nearly exclusively playing Slash and her slide is seriously underused, it may feel a little awkward at first, but you can essentially make just about any turn and keep your momentum. Her special ability is also pretty great, pretty easy to sneak some easy kills in on some less experienced players and the change in direction can really help you get out of some tight situations.

You can actually hold down jump to do successive jumps. Not sure if it's slower or faster than doing it manually, but it's definitely consistent.
@--Lam7 жыл бұрын
Instead of holding JUMP when going up a jump pad, hold CROUCH. Same effect for most champions, but perhaps saves you the accidental wall jump.
@vergeofapathy7 жыл бұрын
If you just play Quake Champions, you don't really need to learn timing your jumps, because Quake Champions has real pogojumping. You can just hold down your jump key permanently for strafejumping. Which btw makes it a _lot_ easier to strafejump up stairs and ramps.
@EternalDahaka7 жыл бұрын
Auto-bunnyhop is great for that. Timing jumps on stairs is tedious depending on the speed your moving.

Zy, I learned how to strafe jump in QL all because of your tutorials. So happy to see you do these for newer QC players as well! I agree with you about strafe jumping, the gaming community is way to want a quick fix anything they don't like or have to learn to deal with. I love Overwatch but that is my biggest complaint as well, we should leave alone bugs that could make the game better and add a bit more depth. Bugs can be beautiful mistakes that only add to a game just like like bunny hopping or wave dashing in melee.

Because it is ultimately an exploit; and somewhat funny/stupid looking. Many (some) people want it to play like a "normal game", more casual and to limit the requirements to be a good player - this is a yet another thing, adding to the notoriously high skill ceiling in Quake.

I feel you on the Overwatch sentiment. All these OW players, saying the game game has depth because there's a bunch of different characters. Old school shooters with no different characters have more depth and a higher skill ceiling than anything in OW. The only way I enjoyed OW for a while was using Soldier because he has a rocket jump mechanic.

I completely agree with your statement about strafe jumping. I can't just run back from spawn in Overwatch, I have to constantly keep jumping
@xantraz7 жыл бұрын
Even easier way to start is to learn bunnyhopping. First, gain some speed, then hold jump button and stop pressing forward. You're keeping your momentum! Now, if you want to take a turn, press left/right and turn your mouse in the same direction (note: mouse movement should be smooth, not sharp and quick). Sorlag utilizes this one through his passive ability and is quite tanky, so it's the best champion to learn. Once you learn it, move to Anarki and become addicted to speed.

I agree about overwatch, but Lucio can also do a sort of strafe jump bhop (more like in csgo) and carry speed from his amp it up, the new wallride speed boost, or landing on a slope. I do find slower heroes very tedius to play and I agree with the walking thing

3:55 I don't think you understand why people argue against strafe jumping. The problem with strafe jumping is that the difficulty comes from it being completely unintuitive. Just think about it: "If you keep jumping with a strafe button held down while turning slowly with your mouse, you will gain incredible speed!" Oh, that makes *totally* sense... Also, because movement in quake feels like running on ice, it's very easy to miss jumps, or get stuck in doorways. Stairs are like a deathtrap, because you can't move on them. It makes movement "pointlessly" difficult. Compare that to Titanfall 2, where you have slide-hopping and air-strafing too. It adds to the skill cap of the game, rather than pushing the skill floor too high. You have more control over your movement, so it's harder to mess up drastically, but it's also more rewarding to do it well.
@RocketJumpNinja7 жыл бұрын
I don't think you understand why none of that matters.

I'm interested if there is a difference with Live and Champions aside from the speed caps. I've heard that auto-bunnyhoping doesn't give as much acceleration as manually tapping jump(supposedly you lose 30%). I wonder if that applies to Champions. I think it is a shame strafe-jumping isn't more common in games. It has tons of uses and is a way to sort of "sprint" without having an actual mechanic for it. I'm a more single-player oriented person, and there are quite a few games that would have benefited from it(DooM2016 and Serious Sam). I didn't know about the bounce pad thing. I'm going to have to try that when I play next.
