When you’re debating quality vs quantity, the answer is always both.
But that being said...
It’s super important that you go about building your audience with the right intent.
For example, so many people are using tactics like “follow / unfollow”, or using bots to grow an Instagram account with no meaningful connection. That kind of short term behavior will always fail.

My thing is just putting out content that I find fun or comfortable with. As soon as I feel forced or the feeling of not having fun doing what I'm doing, I get bored and will stop. So it's tough finding that balance between creating content that I find enjoyable and that my audience also enjoys. #ongoingstruggle.

I'm in the hip-hop niche and I'm not with the gossip and the beefs but those are the things that are trending. but if I don't have interest in the topic I'm not gonna cover it to the best of my ability. Unfortunately, it's not what most agency clients want: They want a few supreme videos that look like TV ads on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook versus less fancy, more quantity. But that TV strategy that most Head of Marketings and Chief Marketing Officer "grew up" with doesn't work anymore in the current ecosystem. In fact we've created much more engagement and actual views with personal videos versus Hollywood styled marketing trailers.
