Awesome, bought a QUANSHENG UV-K6 this morning from Amazon US for $30, will arrive tomorrow. I love the concept of PC controlled radios, I even wrote some programs years ago for the ICom PCR radios, including trunking... Thanks Matt

kind of a rudimentary software defined radio with the waterfall display. really should get one of these, looks like a ton of fun to mess with

Great video! Wow! My QUANSHENG beats out my Icom HT! So I am not sure how “tech” you are but some of us have been talking about changing the filtering (and what ever else!) on these to transmit on other bands! My idea is building a mini board that solders in and bypasses whatever it needs and Mount it above the original board maybe even with just hot glue or stanchions. You up for that? I can do the work if provided the engineering. I can even get the custom boards made up and they could be sold as kits!

Seems like there should be sound coming in via the USB cable? But I don't know anything about how the interface (USB) cable works on these, so I'm probably wrong. I hate the idea of having to wire up a kluge just to hear sound, but I do love the idea of the interface.

Would be cool if it included a server - client option so that one could use it as a remote station. With an API to control it. Then run the server on a Raspberry and stream the audio via a Mumble server.

Remote API / Server is being planned.

I'm wondering whether this could be combined with USB over IP to enable receive and transmit from litterally anywhere. Especially if combined with accessing a VPN to to get into your own network first (type of VPN matters ie whether TUN or TAP, NordVPN have a 'mesh mode' that might do the trick)
@BillyNoMates1974 Жыл бұрын
for a £25 radio, that is impressive. a cheaper way to get into SDR radio than an RTL card ! and thats disregarding the transmit function.
@kcireorenom843011 ай бұрын
yes, but it would be great to be able to connect it to linux or dragon os to use sdrangel or fft radio software.

I'd like to buy that audio patch cable! Yes, I could solder one up but I think this pre-fab cable would sell very well. Can you please consider making up a small quantity for sale? I'll take 2....😄

Hi Mat, yes very nice piece of software. There are some very clever people out there. I did watch his video earlier. I have ordered two of those uv-5r radio's but won't be using the software. They are only going to be used for UHF/VHF amateur communication. Hope you had a great Christmas and New Year break. David M0DUU

Need a HT with standard cat control for satellites so it can auto Doppler. So this is a big step in that direction
@TechMindsOfficial Жыл бұрын
With the firmware used for this windows app I'm pretty sure cat control is possible. Making an Android app to work with it should relatively be simple to do.

Do you have an AIOC interface? It might have all the connections needed.

I am a woodworker and nowadays I build up a simple shelter in the Bosnian wood (if the rain will start...) At home I do have Internet - in the wood still not. Is there an option about a certain legal radio controlled Quansheng internet radio range extender? (I also might buy two Quangsheng devices)

Looks like he just turned it into an SDR. Pretty cool, if not terribly practical. A regular $25 SDR would be a bit more practical.
@radiotec76 Жыл бұрын
It is an SDR. The Quansheng UV-K5 uses the Beken BK4819 chip and it’s a fully self-contained phasing DC transceiver chipset with a DAC, ADC, PLL synthesizer, CTCSS encode-decode circuit and a field programable gate array. This new firmware gives the Quansheng UV-K5 remote capability now.
@jasonmhite Жыл бұрын
Except for the capability to TX at relatively high power. Even nicer SDRs most won't transmit more than a few hundred mW.
@radiotec76 Жыл бұрын
@@jasonmhite I don’t consider the low output power to be a deal breaker though. A class c 1 to 5 watt amplifier or 1 watt to 35 watt outboard amplifier can be built or bought to boost the power output.

Imagine having this radio at your home connected to your base station antenna and being able to talk to your local ham friends on simplex or local repeaters from anywhere in the world if you pair it with remote control software for the computer itself. Add an amp like the Btech inexpensive 40w if you need more power
