Once I described the action scenes in Spectre to a friend who never seen the film, he thought I was making them up because how ridiculous these were. exactly! Spectre was retcon galore. a lazy and extremely incompetent way of bringing the old Bond canon into Craig's films. as good as Skyfall is, it kind of started that trend of referencing past movies in big, obvious ways, which isn't that great since Craig's Bond shined best when he was his own entity.

I stand by Quantum of Solace as the better one because, I personally think Another Way to Die is an underrated Bond song, the runtime is far tighter than any of the other Craig films, the vindictive anger of Bond in this one makes him unique to the other 4 films, Kurylenko and Amalric are great, David Harbour's minor role, and Judi fucking Dench! The choppy editing might bother some, but I personally think it's fine.

I think they should've waited for Shirley Bassey's theme, it's a much better fit to both the tone and to the franchise overall. Jack White's song is an interesting experiment at best, but one that didn't belong in the finished film if you ask me. otherwise agree with everything you said.

Spectre only exists because the producers suddenly decided to shoehorn Bond's classic villains late into Craig's tenure once they got the rights back to them. instead they should've capitalized on what they already had. QoS is superior to Spectre in every way. I don't think it's fair to downgrade it solely because of the quick-cuts. You can take QoS seriously (as they setup the Craig series with Casino Royale), and when watched back-to-back with its precursor, it's a fantastic experience. Spectre continues the joke/mess begun with the Home Alone ending of Skyfall. As mentioned in the "Vs" video, it's absolutely ridiculous that ALL of the prior villains were actually part of Spectre, and that Blofeld was Bond's stepbrother, who had some personal vendetta against him all along. Spectre also doesn't know how to end. It would've been a nice throwback to old Bond films if there was a little more weight to him blowing up the desert base, and he should've just hung out in the desert with her. Adding Bond showing mercy to Blofeld on a random bridge in London, with police standing by made it feel like a cheap episode of a weekly cop procedural. And, No Time to Die is a DREADFUL follow-up you couldn't pay me to watch again. I don't even consider that garbage a 'Bond movie'.

Both films have their flaws, nowhere near the top ranked Craig entries. I always considered Quantum to be the lowest because quite frankly I found it boring in comparison to Casino Royale while Spectre was Skyfall’s and Sam Mendes’ shells of themselves respectively. But then again the whole Craig tenure came full circle as one saga spanning 15 years while all the previous Bond entries Connery to Brosnan were all standalone stories. Quantum came off as the weaker conclusion to the Vesper story while Spectre tied all 3 previous entries together and extended with NTTD, leaving both Quantum and Spectre in different lights since then. Quantum not only felt too pretentious but also too economically watered down with a plot about a country’s water supply and the over use of Ford vehicles especially the villain getting around in a Ford Edge. Here’s my ranking of all 5 entries: 1. Skyfall 2. Casino Royale 3. No Time to Die 4. Spectre 5. Quantum of Solace

Daniel Craig suffered from some really bad scripts. I don't even think Skyfall is as good as everyone says it is. Casino Royale is one of the best of the entire series and reminiscent of The Living Daylights for me. It understood how to establish a character and the proper tone for a James Bond movie. Skyfall is a good film, but I don't consider it great. Quantum was basically the culmination of everything that has happened to Bond films since 1997. Martin Campbell knew how to handle a modern action movie without it becoming ADHD cinema. Nobody else seems to know what they're doing. Goldeneye wasn't a great script, and Pierce Brosnan is Remington Steele, not James Bond, but Campbell did a great job of minimizing Brosnan's flaws and making him passable in the role. If you want to see a less obvious film that uses seizure inducing filmmaking techniques, watch Tomorrow Never Dies. Everything is going way too fast. I wasn't a huge fan of Roger Moore, but I definitely miss the days of Roger and even Timothy just hanging out and having a moment of leisure or check in with an ally. But there's no time for that in modern action movies. They have to get on to the next thing. Even the love scenes feel rushed now. Everything's a quickie. After Casino, the Craig films never found the right pacing or tone. NTTD was just the pinnacle of that. It was going at a mile a minute, didn't make a lot of sense, and wanted to go really dark while being incredibly cartoony at the same time. It's the most bipolar Bond film since License To Kill.
