Mom wants a haircut too! She put her fate in Elijah's hands and let him loose with the clippers! Also, Mike started on his first woodworking project; a work bench!

Esther should totally learn how to cut hair. She knows so much already. And it would be a logical step to learn those skills, too. Awesome hair cut, Megan!

I went to beauty school, so did 2 of my sisters, but my husband and 21 year old son cut everyone's hair and have for decades. I have very long hair and would not trust anyone to cut my hair but my men....I expect all 6 of my kids will learn as time goes on because its part of our our family culture to do everything at home....so this pandemic changes very little for us. But it's so nice to see Elijah learn, hoping to see him do all the kids hair. Great job Elijah!

Is it sad that I'm a 34 year old mom of 2 and I found that comment comforting? Like, "Oh good, other adults feel that way too!", maybe I'm not doing something wrong. Haha When you're a kid you think adults know everything but no one tells you that they're making it up as they go. That's an important piece of info! Lol

Elijah you should hold the clippers with just one hand, with your thumb on the front of the handle (underneath the blades, most devices have on/off button there), it will make you more stable and will be easier to cut

Given your daughter Esther has an interest, I would suggest you hand the shears to her and let her take a couple inches off the longer hair on top to balance the haircut with the much shorter hair clippered on the sides. I would also recommend that given the crowd of family members present, one could vacuum or sweep up the hair clippings before the haircut recipient gets out of the chair and take the towel, cape, sheet or whatever you use out to be shaken off rather than track them through the house. When I do the haircuts for the boys, one mans the shop vac and will clean up between changing attachments on the clippers. Less mess to deal with in the end.

You guys need to invest in hair cutting scissors 🥰 Also maybe a pair of thinning scissors . I agree Esther probably could pic up cutting hair too. ❤️ love you guys
@kerihatgirl8990
@kerihatgirl8990 4 жыл бұрын
I would not recommend wasting your money on thinning shears. A friend of mine whose mother was a hairdresser, said her mother would cut her hair exactly the same way my husband cuts mine. She said you should never use thinning shears on a woman’s hair. It tears the hair it cuts and crushes the hair shafts next to hat is cut. This causes split ends and a rough texture. My husband doesn’t own a set, and I certainly would not let him use them on my hair.

Hi for years I have cut my husband and sons hair and he and I now do my hair. like Elijah, he does the sides and back and I cut the the top, I have it spiky on top. If my husband can do mine. I know Esther can start doing haircuts with the clippers on the boys and progress from there. You can do it Esther! You are soooo talented at hair styling! Best wishes from a New Zealand Subscriber.

Home haircuts save a lot of money, no doubt. Hubby is the family barber and stylist. We have been doing haircuts at home for years. I take a seat and get my long tresses trimmed ((shears only) every other month and my two teen boys get their haircuts every three weeks. I bought a good set of Wahl Designer clippers, hubby had a set of peanut clippers (beard and mustache), he had the pro grade Japanese steel hair shears, hair clips and combs plus we bought hair capes. So he is well equipped with the proper tools and supplies to do the job right. My boys like their hair kept short, so it is pretty much clippers only on their haircuts. Hubby used to use the shears over the comb for blending the shorter hair on the sides with the longer hair on top, but he watched a number of KZbin tutorials and advanced to using the clippers (without an attachment) over the comb to blend the hair and to even cut their hair on top as their hair is so thick. My older son likes his hair longer on top, but he (and I ) don’t like the mop top look, so it is only a couple inches long. The difference between the beard trimmer and the low end professional Designer clippers is the attachments they will take. The good hair clippers will take up to a #12 (1 1/2”), but come with a #8 (1”) while the beard trimmer will only take a #4 (1/2”) . My husband has been cutting my hair for me and doing haircuts for my boys and has a lot of experience as he has given each well over 100 haircuts each. My mom thought it was great that he was so good cutting the boys’ hair, but had reservations about him cutting mine. About three years ago, she got a really bad haircut at her salon, that she paid too much for and complained to me, that my hubby would have done a better job, so I said ask him, she didn’t answer. Well she was visiting when hubby was giving my boys their haircuts and she watched, and complimented him on how nice he does their haircuts, but the way he does them looks like just too much work. She wouldn’t have the patience to use the different attachments or do the clipper over comb cutting to blend their hair, she would just shave them bald. My older son told her that is why she was not going to be cutting his hair. She mentioned that she needed her hair cut and we talked as hubby finished up my older son’s haircut. As hubby took the cape off my son and my younger son was vacuuming up the clippings, I jokingly said, “You’re next! “ . To my surprise, she actually took a seat on the stool. So hubby caped her with the barbers cape and asked how much she wanted him to cut off. My older son said, “shave her bald!”. She immediately said she did not want him to take the clippers to her hair. He said hair shears only and held up his hand to ask her how many fingers worth. She said pinkie and ring fingers worth. So he trimmed a little over an inch off her shoulder skimming bob. My younger son vacuumed up the clippings and hubby shook the cape off the deck, then tossed it in the laundry. My mom went to the bathroom mirror to inspect her haircut and I handed her a mirror to check the back. She was happy with the results and she saved over $50. So I am sill getting my ends kept trimmed, and my boys are getting their haircuts at home. I am diabetic and have high blood pressure, so I am not letting anyone come visit at the house. I see bad haircuts posted by friends on Facebook, but I don’t post pictures of my boys after their haircuts. I don’t want to brag. I have been messaged by a couple friends to ask if they could stop by for a haircut, but I asked them to hold off for now. The one thing I do see is that they never acquired the proper tools and supplies to properly cut hair before things were shut down, they cannot get good clippers, capes or shears as they are all sold out. Being you have 11 in your family, a daughter and a son that are willing to give the family haircuts, I would say it would definitely be a good investment to get a good quality set of hair clippers, capes and hair shears (the ones that have the adjustable knob that come apart to sharpen) to do haircuts at home. I figure I save over $1200 a year with hubby cutting our hair, you could easily save another thousand more. I am sure the kids thought it was really cool to see mom take a seat and get her hair cut. I myself would not let my teen son cut my hair, especially with clippers, as I have hubby do it. My younger son tried to cut his own hair a couple years ago as it was touching his ears. He hacked it pretty short, my husband warned me that he would have to cut it pretty short to fix it. It would up pretty high and tight, but it looked good. My son promised not to hack his own hair again, he was told to ask when you want your hair cut, and he does. I am Very particular about liking short hair on my boys, looking at the mop tops your sons have, I would be bugging and want their hair cut. Hubby has told me that when the boys became teens, they should have a say in how they want their haircuts, but thankfully they want their hair kept short, so I am happy.
