Quartering The Wheels When Re Installing them on your Postwar Lionels.

If you have taken the wheels off your Lionel Steam Locomotive, you need to put them back on properly to avoid "binding". Its a simple adjustment to prevent a lot of frustration when you put your newly repaired loco back on the tracks.

One of the most informative on the drive train. Makes sense to have “balance” for smooth motion. Just that the balance is different than one would assume.

On a real steam locomotive the convention is that the right hand side, as seen from the cab forwards , leads by 90 degrees, so 12 o’clock left and three o’clock right, but the way you suggested works as well.

Always thought it was 12 and 6. That would be 1/2 . Now I know why they call it quartering. Also didn't know about the brass washer.

Hey Jack, thanks for watching! Most times I find that brass washer is COVERED in dirt and old grease and plastered to the wheel or wheel bushing. Not very noticeable.

Hey Joe thanks for watching. The only tools are screwdrivers to remove the wheels, and vise to press them back on.
