Күн бұрын

On our way to Quartzsite, AZ and after the Holidays with the family. It's a story of a breakdown in the desert. It's a road trip out west and our travel days don't go smoothly.
And it wasn't just once but 3 times!!! We're not Matt's Off-Road Recovery operation but we have to get it done out in the desert.
Happy New Year and let's get this travel day going in the right direction!

RV Camping
We like to "Switch it Up" between resorts and campgrounds and boondocking is always an option.
We draw inspiration from Keep Your Daydream KYD, Less Junk More Journey, Finding Our Someday and Changing Lanes. We normally travel in an HDT similar to KZbin channels Suite Travels and Watts on Wheels. I also get some ideas from the editing style of Happily Ever Hanks (Happilyeverhanks) #thankshanks and believe it or not, I actually learned something from MRBeast Mr Beast video's as well.
Our journey is the destination. We want to share in our experiences in our discovery of What's Next.
I get my music from:
Epidemicsound.com
Tracks:
Is This Winter Now by Shirley
Amazon Shop (no extra charge to you)
A convenient way to see (or buy) the items you see in the video's which may help in your adventure.
www.amazon.com...
We use the TSD card for diesel fuel and save a bundle each time we fill up our Big Rig. We also use it to fill up our Onan generator.
The big blue boards (XL version) we use sometimes to get us "un-stuck" is from:
Gotreads.com
Our Class C is built by Thor Motorcoach on a Ford F550 chassis. It's a production build Magnitude model XG32. We tow our red Jeep Wrangler Sahara behind it. We've made some modifications to it so that we can boondock comfortably. Lithium batteries, Victron 3000w multi-plus inverter, dual alternators charge while traveling and mods to the water system greatly enhance it's boondocking capabilities.
Our extreme completely custom 5th wheel is built on a semi-trailer chassis with air suspension and air brakes. Completely loaded it weighs 42,000 lbs rolling down the highway. And we do roll down the highway nearly every week. You see, we believe that if your home has wheels they should be used.
Vehicles:
2016 Volvo VNL780 "Voyager"
2016 Smart fortwo "Pathfinder"
2019 SpaceCraft Custom built semi-trailer 5th wheel "Orion"
2023 Thor Magnitude XG32 Class C "Curiosity"
2017 Jeep Wrangler Sahara "Artemis"
Power system:
3250 watts of solar with Panasonic panels
30.1 KWH of Lithium batteries
2- 4K watt Magnum Inverters deliver power as if we are on shore power
2- 4K watt 240v Cotek Inverters deliver additional power for our LG Mini split HVAC and stove
Coachnet is our roadside assistance company we use but hopefully we don't use them too often. LOL
We are not sponsored by Whataburger but I do enjoy them anytime I can get my hands on one. They used to be just out of Texas but they have expanded.
BIg Truck Big Travels video's are based on our personal experience and not meant nor portrayed as experts in anything we do or say. It's our life on the road and our opinions are not meant to be construed as advice. Enjoy life on the road.

Fortunately those wires didn't get hot and cause a fire. They didn't look like they got hot. I must disagree with you in that you are mechanically inclined. You have done alot of work on that rig and did a great job. The Whataburger is well deserved!!!!

What a great, although painful, story. I was riveted by it. For professing to not be mechanically inclined people, you two sure do a lot of great mechanical work. Most people who don’t think they are mechanically oriented would not even try 10% of what you all do. I am constantly amazed by the depth and breath of your abilities. Looking forward to your trek westward. Happy New Year!

I feel your pain. The belt went on our dryer, finally got the part and installed it to realize the heat sensors had failed as well. Like you, multiple times taking the dryer in and out. We also had issues with our washer, The door would not unlock. Used a trick learned from KZbin to open it. Thought the lock mechanism was faulty so replaced it. That didn't solve the problem. Long story short ended up replacing the very expensive washer after having a tech look at it and declare it dead. He thought the board was gone. Because our units are stacked we got really good at taking both out of the very cramped closet they fit in. All that being said I love having my own washer and dryer. Happy travels.

So here’s a thing with that thermostat when you’re running your dryer make sure you let it go through the cool down. If you don’t and that thermostat is still ringing hot, it burns up I have to make sure that you let it cool down properly before turning it off just don’t open up the door and pull a piece of clothing or towel out and think your dryer is gonna be okayit’ll burn that thermostat out every time

You should be able to reverse the door on that dryer so it opens up against the wall. Usually it is a pretty simple. Take the screws out on the hinge. Flip it over and install it on the other side after removing the latch that holds the door shut then the door will be out of your way when loading it and unloading it
@bigtruckbigtravels
@bigtruckbigtravels 8 ай бұрын
I was told that you couldn't do that because of an electrical connection but I'm going to look at it. Thanks
@waylonhartwell
@waylonhartwell 8 ай бұрын
@@bigtruckbigtravels usually the electrical connection for the dryer to realize the door is shut is just a switch at the top or the bottom. But other times it's the actual switch that clips the door shut and sometimes you have to physically move the wire over to the other side. But usually most manufacturers make it so you can reverse the direction of the door

You might want to have someone check ALL of your receptacles. With the vibration of traveling down the road, that type of electrical connection can loosen over time, causing the wire to get very hot. I'm amazed you haven't had more issues with your electric. I can't fathom why Spacecraft would put such cheap parts (think late 70s-early 80s mobile homes) in such an expensive RV. Dangerous stuff.

Great question. We boondock about 50-60% of the time. We virtually never stay at truck stops, we leave those precious spots to the truckers. We use Harvest Hosts for some overnights. We'll stay at Thousand Trails for about 70 nights a year and there are plenty of RV parks that we'll fit. We have to plan and research but our size has never prevented us from going where we want to go... except Mexico. We've never had an RV park refuse us entry.

I’m curious about the denial at the Mexican border mentioned in passing. What happened?
@bigtruckbigtravels
@bigtruckbigtravels 8 ай бұрын
Mexico does not allow an HDT (semi-truck) to cross the border except for two reasons: (1) it's a commercial truck hauling goods with proper documents or (2) it's going to be sold in Mexico. Those are the only two reasons they will allow an HDT to cross the border.

Didn't you have some sort of warranty on that dryer? Couldn't you have gotten the new one for free or something? Also, what did you do with the old one once you took it out? I would like to think that you donated it to some place that could fix it and resell it like Habitat for Humanity or something like that?

The dryer was 4 years old so no warranty on it. Great thought! Thanks 😄

Why don't you dry your clothes on a line outside? It's free, clothes smell fresh. Why waste electricity when the Sun is shining?

Depends. I think most RV parks don't allow that, but Quartzite might.

That's true... but with our solar, the dryer is also free... plus less dust.

Is your new dryer the same make and model? If so, are you going to cannibalize it for spare parts?

Same make and model but we gave our old one to a needy home who wanted to try and fix it.

Grrrr... can't prove it but had one shipped to the RV park, signed for by the owner but he swears he never received it. Spoke to police and delivery company but nothing could be proved. Very irritating.

On the road fulltime, we had it shipped to our next stop which was an RV Park. Called ahead to ask permission and they said, "no problem". Laptop delivered with the signature of the owner of the RV Park by UPS. We show up a day later and I inquire during check in about the delivered package. He said nothing here for you. I show him the delivery signature and he denies it ever delivered. Let's me look around the office to no avail. Grrr...

Love watching your videos and am extremely interested in Quartzsite, as we are thinking about heading out west from NC next fall. My question is a general one .... do you drink the water from your freshwater holding tank? How often do you sanitize it, and do you also use filters at the camp pedestal and under each sink in addition to sanitizing the tank? Thank you!
@bigtruckbigtravels
@bigtruckbigtravels 8 ай бұрын
Thank you. Yes, we drink from our fresh tank. I clean the tanks annually and use 7 water filters in the trailer. Since we use it fulltime and use the tanks weekly then there is a constant flow of water in the tank system so virtually no buildup.
