Great reaction! It was impossible to perform the middle section live, there are 180 vocal overdubs and they were only 3 singers. You have choirs answering choirs. Queen changed it around through the years, sometimes they did other songs in that section. In the 80's they just decided to leave the stage, to show that they were not singing it. But Queen were a great live band, check out Somebody To Love - Queen live Montreal 1981.

That to me was a wonderful thing because so many singers today would pretend to be singing it and claim there were some effects on top, but Freddy left the stage because it's literally impossible to make that sound live and he didn't want to pretend. The many was a true artist and that goes for the entire band.

All members of Queen were avid professionals who always strove to give their audience the best show possible. They loved their fans.

I'll listen to Queen anytime, anywhere and now here with you! It's impossible to do the middle section, it's been layered a million times. Remember, Freddie was a studio genius!👑👍

Poor Freddie who knows how he suffered to feel that tiredness to produce a tour like that. Maybe some don't notice it but he was tired enough, his illness was advancing. How much strength I had to keep moving forward. In fact, songs like The show must Go On retrace that year

BTW... FREDDIE MERCURY DID. SING. OPERA. He did an album titled Barcelona with Spanish operatic soprano Montserrat Caballe. (So I laughed when you said "they're not opera singers", sorry!😄.) Queen prided themselves on being raw and authentic in their live shows/would never have used any added "technological musical support" like many do now. It was just the 4 of them & 1 other keyboardist playing any-and-all instruments, so in live shows you'll often see some of them switch mid-song between multiple instruments. And it was always just 3 of them singing (the bass player didn't sing) with no other back up, that's just how they liked to do it. The opera section of BoRhap when they recorded it in-studio was just 3 of them overlapping their voices on the old-fashioned tape almost 200 times. Since there was no way they could replicate that live w/o relying on "technological assistance", they always left the stage during that part because they were adamant: They never wanted anyone to get the mistaken idea that they might be "fake" or lip syncing anything onstage.🖖 I LOVED YOUR AUTHENTIC REACTION.... MORE LIVE QUEEN, PLEEAASE!!!

Yes it was pouring down rain at that performance. Most difficult to perform in. Brian said it worked havoc with his guitar strings.

You should watch the "official" version, it has some very cool special effects that they can't do live. They can't possibly sound the same live with all the multiple tracks that it takes to make it sound like the "original".

You can't do the Operatic bit live. So they just play the studio version, then back onto stage for the rock and outro

His voice was shot about this time during the concert. He had nodules on his larynx and they would bother him from time to time. Roger would cover for him on the high parts. No, they do not do the opera part on stage. It would be nearly impossible with all of the different parts. Enjoyed your reaction.

He was sick at this concert, and he still hit a few Bb4 notes on this very performance in full chest voice. Many tenors will struggle to be able to sing that note in full chest voice. Roger did a lot of high harmonies and Queen had a lot of harmonies.

Queen was my dads favourite band and I love them as well. I play them for everyone I know given the opportunity and so many times people think his voice is autotuned. Imagine living in a generation where you assume truly extraordinary and unique voices must be autotuned. The man sang live and it sounded like the studio recording. Indeed there were times where it was better than the studio. Remember however they add effects to the voices during part of the song and that would have been difficult at that time to reproduce live. The stretched echoing sound was something done after the song was recorded. This wasn't autotune, it was an effect which included layering and that is literally impossible for any human voice. Freddy could hit notes just like an opera singer and he did that live all the time. Just listen to him singing "Somebody to love" live and you will see the power and control he had.

I'm here for live Queen anytime! I did enjoy your reaction. This song was a hurge hit. If you are looking for more love songs by Queen, live, I suggest Love of My Life, live at Wembley 1986 and Save Me live at Montreal 1981 for starters. Play the Game at Milton Keynes Bowl, 1982, also is a great performance.

Love watching Bo Rap live .. Freddie performing like a proud parent!! 💪💪 I think the Montreal version is better but any live version gets my Queen stamp of approval. Queen concerts typically ran about 2 hours! 🌟👑🌟 The middle section was difficult to replicate since the studio version was all multi-layered … C’mon how many artists today use backtracking & autotune?

The middle part could not be performed live. Their voices over dubbed. Over and over and over etc. Impossible to perform live.
