The song was a distraction the band needed, it was out of the studio. Brian had depression after the breakdown of his first marriage and though you would not have known it Freddie had been told his condition had gotten worse. Over two days The preserved Nene valley railway in Peterborough in Cambridgeshire was the location for filming. Freddie and the band used no safety gear and Freddie nearly gave the crew heat attacks with his energetic performance.

This song is one of proof that John Deacon was an important member of the Queen. His bass playing and songwriting in Queen, always gave the band extra push that made Queen so amazing. Queen will never be that big band today, had it not been for John Deacon.

People always shove John down as the #4 member, but he's so wholesome and sweet and I love him. I mean he drove a Volvo and was a family member if I recall correctly (I heard it over a decade ago). I had never heard of a Volvo until I read/heard that!

Also, if it weren't for John's engineering capabilities (As he created the amp Brian used in most of the 70s and in some of the 80s and 90s known as the "Deacy Amp"), I'm sure most of the guitar tones heard in Queen's stuff would've been different

I absolutely 💘 love Break Thru and Break Free, both are unbelievably great!!! I have been a Queen fan since 1973 and have seen Queen in 3 concerts during the mid seventies. I am fromt he U.S. and can not believe the public in this country didn't make these hits #1 on the charts here. I have Queen's Greatest Hits Album and saw a picture of the band from Breakfree Official video. I loved the picture from the moment I saw it and when I finally watched it I knew it was a legendary Queen song. I can't believe it flopped in this country because it is such a landmark and impressive video. Elements of this awesome song are key factors in The Show Must Go On. Especially when Freddie closes the closet door is very important in that song, it puts closure on the band. I do not share the ridiculous negative view of this country. Queen will hold a very strong and special place in my heart that will last a lifetime for me. Thy have given me some of the happiest and most wonderful times in my life. I will cherish the memories always!!! ``

The Miracle was their first album in three years. (A Kind of Magic was in '86). When they went back into the studio, they decided to credit all songs to Queen instead of them as individual songwriters. That way, there were no squabbles as to who got credit, what song belonged to whom, who got the royalties, etc., etc.. They said it really helped the creative process. Hey hun you are so spot on, when they were putting the song together Roger Taylor said he thought the bass line was like a chugging train and so it was he who suggested they climb aboard a freaking train for this bus. And yes, this wasn’t very long before Freddie’s death, just about 30 months 😢 AND PLEASE, if you have not seen it please react to Queen: These Are The Days Of Our Lives video. The Song is from their 1991 Album Innuendo (same year of course that Freddie passed), when it came to the video they filmed it in black and white. DO have tissues to hand though hun, Freddie looks frightfully ill, there’s a stunning, heart wrenching guitar solo from Brian and right at the end Freddie looks straight down the camera and says “I still love you”, believe hun it’ll break your heart into a thousand pieces xx

According to IMDB, the train was only going between 30-60 miles per hour. Queen apparently insured themselves for 2 million pounds against bodily harm, so they were able to do those things on the train. And you are right, the girl in the video was someone Roger Taylor was dating at the time.

Obviously the song was recorded in the studio for the album but the train is real (no CGI), in 1989 the band dropped £300K to film this, equivalent to around £950K today, the train travelled between 30 and 60 mph and the band had to take our insurance to the tune of £2MILLION against bodily harm!! By the time they filmed this in April of ‘89 Freddie was already suffering badly from the HIV Aids virus and was totally exhausted every day of filming and it would be just 30 months later that he would lose his fight with HIV 😢
