Queen Mary 2 Under the Golden Gate

View of the Queen Mary 2 as she entered San Francisco Bay passing under the Golden Gate Bridge, 04 Feb 07. Spectators' reactions can be heard. There were several hundred watercraft to welcome the Queen. We were on the 'California Hornblower', one of the large boats that accompanied her under the Gate. Note the grey/green target on the bridge so the ship could pass beneath the bridge with about thirty feet clearance. It was quite an experience.

I was working at the bridge at that time. They had to wait for low tide in order for the ship to pass underneath.

@th33ninja, the Verazzano Narrows bridge in between Brooklyn and Staten Island, yes I agree with you. I don't think QM2 could fit under any of the East River bridges such as the Brooklyn, Manhattan or Willamsburg, and she only had 25-30' to spare under the Golden Gate.
