What was your high school average?
@RunningErins9 жыл бұрын
@Tomoka Kashiwazaki I'm not able to directly reply to your comment but here's your answer: Our program at Queen's Commerce is general for the first two years, so you will take an introduction to many facets of business including marketing, accounting, finance, international business, organizational behaviour, human resources, etc. In your third and fourth year is when you would focus on the accounting courses required for a CPA designation! Here's a link to the curriculum: smith.queensu.ca/bcom/future_students/curriculum.php

Hey, thanks for making the video it was very helpful. I have another question... Are there many international students ?
@RunningErins9 жыл бұрын
+Monika Kern I'm not exactly sure how many international students there are in the commerce program specifically but the Queen's website has the following info: In the 2014-2015 academic year, more than 1,950 international students made Queen's their home-away-from-home; that's more than 8% of Queen's full-time student population. Additionally, due to the popularity of the Queen's Commerce exchange program, for every Queen's student who goes abroad one student from across the world comes to Queens. In third and fourth year it is very common for some courses to be made up of 50% exchange students.

Which commerce courses can non-commerce students take? Is economics a lot of math?
@RunningErins10 жыл бұрын
Hey Ryan! Here are a list of commerce courses non-commerce students can take! COMM 200 Introduction to Business COMM 211 Introduction to Financial Accounting COMM 212 Introduction to Management Accounting COMM 221 Introduction to Finance COMM 231 Introduction to Marketing COMM 244 Project Management and Economics COMM 251 Organizational Behaviour Here's the link for more information: business.queensu.ca/bcom/academic_calendar/browse_calendar/2013_14_started/non_commerce_students/courses.php Economics is not entirely math based, there are a lot theories and concepts you will need to know and understand. However, there is some math involved.

Thank you very much for all the information! I am interested to be an accountant, and I want to be a student in Queen's commerce, do I still have to take marketing, business, and other class? Or do I just take the accounting and whatever math courses that I need?

Thank youuu, your video was super helpful! I have some specific questions to you though.. is there any way I could contact you directly?
@RunningErins8 жыл бұрын
+Ekaterina Kiryushina Hey!! There should be an option to private message me somewhere on KZbin. Quick google search showed me: Send private messages 1 Go to the channel of the person you want to contact. You can do this by clicking their channel name underneath one of their videos. 2 Click the About tab. 3 Click Send message. Type in your private message and click Send. Hopefully this works!!

hey I know this video is pretty old, so how were your job prospects after graduation?
@RunningErins4 жыл бұрын
hi Charlotte! When I was in fourth year, the employment rate within 6 months of graduation was around 97-98%, and I believe it's the same today. I also had quite a few friends who received return full-time offers after a successful summer internship (not possible for me as I worked at the school for the summer). Because of my original interest in advertising agencies, I skipped the initial hiring period at the beginning of the school year as agencies typically hire in the spring. However, in January of my fourth year, I attended the Queen's Marketing Association Conference (QMAC) for students and realized that the agency life was not for me. At this conference, I met a recruiter for a tech company, interview a month later, and got the position! I still work there today! Throughout fourth year, there are tons of networking and hiring events run by the career center, students conferences that are sponsored by companies in any industry, and then of course the online job posting portal. Finding a job post graduation would not be something to stress about if you decided to attend Smith. :)

How hard is the math? Are there frequent tutorials for this? Please reply
@RunningErins9 жыл бұрын
+Bella lizter Hey Bella. How hard the math is would be very dependent on your abilities. I'd say I was less than good at math in high school so I definitely found the math hard in first year. However there were weekly tutorials (usually multiple timeslots per week) that you could attend to get extra help. You can also go see the professor during office hours and they are usually happy to help!

+LifeAfterIB what if I'm going in without calculus but pre cal 12?
@RunningErins9 жыл бұрын
+Bella lizter Definitely check the admission requires for Queens just to make sure pre cal 12 qualifies you to get in. Queen's Commerce requires you to have grade 12 English and Calculus as well as one other math. In terms of the work load, each professor will assume you don't really know too much about Calculus so they'll start at the beginning and work through the material slowly

Thank you for your sharing! I am accepted by the Queen University in the Arts program to learn the economics. Do I have chance to participate in the commerce program? And when I am in the arts program, could I can take the electives courses about the commerce like the HR or accounting such like those. ?
@RunningErins3 жыл бұрын
Hi Feng! Thank you for the questions. As it's been a few years since I was at Queen's, my knowledge is a little dated. I'd highly recommend you reach out to the Faculty of Arts and Science with these questions. You can also get in touch with the Queen's Commerce High School Liaison - they are a group of students available to answer your questions or point you to someone who can! facebook.com/QueensCommerceHSL

Are there group projects?
@RunningErins7 жыл бұрын
Yes, quite a few! Group projects are a huge part of the program (but not all of it). 90% of the classes you take will include some sort of group presentation, project, report, or assignment. This is great as most companies look for team experiences in candidates.
