Love this live version--Love the live version at Hammersmith-Odeon in 1975 even a bit more--especially the musical interlude.

Hammersmith Odeon 1975 is even better if you can imagine … … chills anytime I watch it.

The performance of this at Hammersmith Odeon is si much better. You need to watch that one.

I do love it when John Deacon gets praise. He's so often forgotten about.

I absolutely love this song and this is my second favorite live performance of it after Odeon, Hammersmith 1975.

This is wonderful. I prefer the performance at the Hammersmith Odeon. To me, it is richer, musically.

I agree but this one they do show more of Brian. Still no comparison to the Odeon version. Best Queen Live Performance Ever!

Freddie is better here though.

Another great example of the live version of a Queen song eclipsing the studio version.

Never got to see Queen at this early stage (or any stage) of their career, but having seen dozens of other band's concerts, what I appreciate is how Queen craft the song for Live stage performance. They're not copying themselves off their own records. Heck, they change things up from concert to concert even. Freddie varies his vocal delivery, pacing a bit. He changes pitch & tone as he needs to save his voice. The band are not afraid to add embelishments here & there. Now I understand why many fans at the time followed them to each show during a tour. This is not a cookie cutter band.

Hi Justin! Although every performance by Freddie/the band is wonderful, with this song my favorite is actually from the following year in 1975 at the Odeon Hammersmith… It was perfected to a work of art!

I am so non-technically skill-wise, so I only know this is my favorite piece from Brian. Where, during the musical duet, he has the Red Special singing so beautifully to the heavens for the love he cannot have. Freddie is in superb voice, gorgeous piano work. Roger and John keeping the percussion going. 'White Queen' live in concert is a treat to the ears.

Thanks man. Without you I would never have known all these great tunes existed. I know and have A Night At The Opera and A Day At The Races and of course know the hits. Awesome stuff...

That's the thing with queen no performance is ever the same this one is brill but I would say the Hammersmith one is better!

Queen and mostly Freddie Mercury could transport you to any time or place. You could be lost in a medieval fantasy or in the Scottish Highlands or in a maelstrom of Queen's own devising, and still have that feeling of awe that you felt when you first heard their music. Queen was and is unique and there is no-one to take their place once they join Freddie.
@mori1bund Жыл бұрын
The instrumental part is mostly improvised, so it's different at every concert. As many already mentioned here 😁 it's better in the Hammersmith 1975 version -> kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGnYpIGgad1shKM

Thanks, Justin.. so beautiful... as noted below, though... the same song at Hammersmith was just a "tetch" better IMHO... lol.. Still, the amazing interplay between Fred's keys & Brian's guitar... (honorable mention to bass & drums, of course) .appreciate your reactions...

Odeon Hammersmith version is the absolute best .

I thought there was something wrong with the audio with half the guitar missing and then realised it was The Rainbow version, not the one from Hammersmith.

Brian has such good control of his sound. I'd love to try the copy of his guitar.

That was nice, and any post production probably focused on that piano. Pianos in rock shows were notoriously hard to record live back then. They usually just had a single microphone positioned over the strings, which would then of course feedback or pick up everything else nearby. So pianos were usually turned down to the point they were hard to hear.

An amazing performance. They are all so on point. I have to giggle watching the close up On Freddie’s hands bc boy is he unorthodox in the way he plays. Amazing fun fact: the piano line was not part of the original composition.
