May be wrong but your eyes watered with sheer emotion hearing this epic Mercury creation

It really is remarkable. Another fun fact you might not have known, the intro is all Freddie. Multitracked.

Freddie was working on Bohemian Rhapsody in college, a fellow student called it the cowboy song because of the words, mama I just shot a man, it was years in the making and was completed in 6 studios. Freddie did create a masterpiece and they brought it to life. Great reaction.

Hi Justin Love your reaction. BoRhap has sort of become background music in my life and I had actually forgotten how good it is. In a way your reaction is a reminder of a song so many of us have started taking for granted. I know there are college courses in music where students study it. I know it was the most streamed song of the 20th Century but it’s always been there hovering in the background and I was not really listening to it anymore. I like the fact you didn’t try to figure out what the song means. I don’t care what it means… I have my own thoughts on what all songs mean and I don’t really care what the composer was thinking. Now that you have done your great reaction I have one last thing to say that I never thought I would say … It’s not long enough !! 😂😊✌🏼

Queenies often see "BoRhap" as the 2nd act of three songs... starting with "March of the Black Queen" and then ending with "Innuendo." Listening to the three in order, you get a glorious sampling of Queen's growth through the decades. Each unique, but each also separated by inner genres. I could listen to the trio over and over and never tire. Regarding the "phone book" Mercury wrote on, it was actually his father's notepads from the airline company he worked for. Brian has shown the sheets in the "Making of Bohemian Rhapsody" videos (incredible stories from Brian!) and we saw them for sale at the Sotheby's Auction earlier this year. It's just amazing seeing the names of the notes, not the musical notes themselves, writing out the epic song. Your reaction today was so beautiful. I sat in honored silence with you at the end, feeling its beauty. And I did see Queen and "BoRhap" live in 1978 and wept through the whole song, all the way to Roger's swing on the giant gong behind the drums. _heavy sigh_

It is hard to find words that do this song justice, and you're right, there is a clear progression through their first three albums leading to this song. But it doesn't stop here, the progression keeps on rolling. The Bho Rhap video was the first pre-2000 produced video to reach 1 Billion views on YT. It's still breaking records in the new Millennium.

Brilliant reaction, Justin. Thank you so much. Because you are a musician and a producer, I believe you would enjoy listening to "Inside the Rhapsody", the documentary about the making of Bohemian Rhapsody. You can find it on KZbin. It is in 3 segments so you can listen to each segment separately or in its' entirety. The 3rd segment takes you into the studio where some of the song was created. Brian May sits at an old console and precisely explains the techniques they actually created - given the limited technology available to them at the time - in order to bring this masterpiece to vinyl. You are absolutely correct when you say they used the studio as an instrument ... that's the best sentence I've ever heard from all the reactions I've listened to over many years. Thanks again...your thoughtful reaction was a treat for me.

The reaction said it all... speechless.... I remember being a child xmas 1975 in the UK and this being on the TV show Top Of The Pops.... nobody had heard anything like this before. Yet it all seemed so accessible, humorous, emotional, sad.... music for the ages....

During an interview I heard someone ask Brian how much did they have to rehearse this song before recording it. He said, "We didn't, Freddie would come in with little snippets and play them on the piano and we would just record them three times." They had no idea what the finished song was going to be until it was completed.

I clearly remember the first time I heard this in 1975. Doing Christmas shopping in Woolworths, this came on over the speakers and it stopped me in my tracks. I was stunned with amazement. It took my breath away and still does and it warms my heart to hear your appreciation of it, too! Love your sincere reaction! ❤

The mad thing about this song is....... The only song to be number one in it's original format twice on Xmas Day in the UK, and the only ever song to be number 1 in 4 different years 1975,1976,1991,1992

What a reaction at the end of the song, Justin. It almost made me cry watching you feel something i felt 48 years ago. That's what happens when you try to absorb what you've just experienced. Did a human being actually compose and craft that?
@andreakormosnekacso480411 ай бұрын
Freddie had 3 unfinished songs and then he put them together into this masterpiece. The original title of the song was Mongolian Rhapsody, as we could see at the Sotheby's auction this year, where the music sheet written by Freddie himself was sold for 1.3 million pounds. We'll never see it again. 😭

You said it all! It is a total masterpiece. It is one of many, but in my opinion one of his most epic! I cried at your reaction, your silence and taking time before speaking was you get it. The greatness that this Queen! Thank you.

Your silence tells it all. It could be the most iconic rock song ever. Everyone come on, everyone will have heard this at some point in their lives. don't care where you live, unless your an island tribe!! It's frikin amazing and to think radio thought it too long to play, but Kenny Everett English dj and comedian did. I was 11 when this was on top of the pops and it totally changed my view on music 🤘

As always, thank you so much for your reaction! The first time I heard it on the radio (lo, many decades ago) I thought it was just very weird. Then it played over, over, and over again. We bought the album to figure out what the lyrics meant. I was wrong. It wasn't weird. It was epic. I fell in love with Queen. Here I am - still in love.

The first time I heard Bo Rhap was on Queen's Greatest Hits album. Bo Rhap played and, instead of continuing with the record, I replayed Bo Rhap...and replayed it and replayed it. I came from a household in which there was almost no rock music - lots of Classical, Big Band, and Folk music. Bohemian Rhapsody let me know rock music could be 'more than'.
@betseyclark283211 ай бұрын
Amazing Fact: Last fall at Sotheby's the lyrics to Bohemian Rhapsody sold at auction for 1,700,000 GBP, ($1,369,940)! I wonder what Freddie would think of that. Thank you for an amazing reaction, Justin.

Difficult to find anything to add really, I don’t sit & listen to it often anymore,it’s been done to death and I’ll still hear it 3 or 4 times during the week on the radio at work etc. when I do actually sit and listen to it however after all this time it still sounds as fresh as ever & still makes me feel things and for me that’s what music is all about. I doubt we will see the like again, we should cherish it.

I was holding my breath as you took several beats before speaking at the end...an epic song that still packs a punch all these years later. Seeing Freddie's original hand written lyrics thru the Sotheby auction with "Nothing really matters to me" boxed and underlined; the title originally "Mongolian Rhapsody." How wild that prior to the auction, Brian May was unaware, had never seen Freddie's copy...just knew that it was all up there, in his head. Kudos to you on your summation of all the factors that came together...yep, epic song indeed. Terrific, thoughtful reaction.

I don’t think I’ve seen you pause to gather your thoughts before you said anything about a song before. That alone says so much about this song. I first heard it on Live Killers and this is a song where I prefer the original version much more because it shows off their studio skills so much. Calling the studio another instrument for them is spot on. But most importantly, what did you think of the lyrics? 😂😂. Sorry couldn’t help myself.

Was fearful of hearing perspective counter to my senses Yet it was a wonderful tear inducing trip listening, watching your face. Loved it. Always gratitude to Messers Mercury, Taylor, Deacon and May for their musicianship and unfaltering teamwork, attention bringing this masterpiece of Freddie Mercury's into existence. Thanks for this thorough sharing of your insight. To me, only a listener of music . . . Side 2 of Queen II is almost equally magnificent.

This masterpiece has the power to move people, it looked like it moved you at the final section, may have a lot to do with the journey you're on with these guys and now hearing it from a different place. Re 'less vocals than previous albums, I think Freddie is right, even on BoRap the vocal sections are more refined, more sharp and thought-out, less tracks needed. The Prophet's Song is using 3 part delay on just the one vocal in Freddie's main section, and the 'la la, come I hear you'' (2 part delay section) from Roger/Brian/Freddie would be on the same tracks, I'm guessing 3 tracks been used in total and the delay creating the harmonies.
@bluebell372011 ай бұрын
No the middle section delay is just Freddie harmonising with his own delay Theres a video of Brian explaining making of the song

The video for this might have been my first conscious exposure to Queen - shown on the Midnight Special. Obviously a crapshoot for the record company BUT they had a track record so it could have sold 'despite' BoRap. Freedom to create is the most important part of making music. Gene Simmons was so wrong about most musicians being in it for sex and money. Playing it safe is boring. I hope you listen to all of Day at the Races as well. It was the first album I was 'waiting for' from any artist and I saw them on that tour.
