I'm right there with you man. I put ITNR at 4th out of 8 for my favorite QOTSA albums. A lot of times, Queens puts out songs that take a little while to grow on you, but when they do, they stick around. That's how it felt for me with a couple of songs off of their Villains album- namely Un-Reborn Again and Villains of Circumstance. But after re-listening to them several times, there are some of my favorites.

@@TT-df9hpEXACTLY, Era Vulgaris has a weird vibe but it all comes together in one big mess of creativity and skill. I didn't like the mixing in the album, some guitars were annoying, the solo on Negative Space sounds weird because there's not much happening and the background music Isn't helping. Overall i'd say it's a decent album cuz they don't have nor will have a bad album. Glowy to wome.

This album has really been such a delightful surprise as a massive Queens Of The Stone Age fan, whilst not every song was an instant love upon first listen and I still got get around to the first track which I often do forget myself, it’s one of those albums that definitely gets better on repeated listens especially in the second half where it’s the strongest with that three song run of “Sicily”, “Emotion sickness” into “Straight jacket fitting” being fantastic. I also really love the little I guess Easter eggs in a way in terms of songs having this nice throwback to their previous albums mainly, Lullabies to paralyze, Era Vulgaris, Like Clockwork, Villains and the acoustic guitar outro to “Straight jacket fitting” being a nice homage to Kyuss.

In terms of the production someone told me to take off the function on Spotify that makes all the songs you listen to the same volume and I think it makes a worthwhile difference in the way the mixes sound on some of these (Carnavoyeur and Sicily in particular). If you weren't listening on Spotify then fair play.

Having literally just listened to it, I'm pretty damn fond of it. It feels like 'electric horror' to me at quite a few points, I'm not sure why. That Sicily riff is unbelievably cool, perhaps my favourite on the album alongside Straight Jacket. Some of the most interesting production I've seen in a QOTSA album, writing doesn't rival LC for me though.

I really enjoy it! One of their posts said that this is a cap on the trilogy of albums that came out in the past decade, going from the emotionally dense and melancholic …Like Clockwork, to the upbeat, bitey compassion in Villains, and the acceptance of events that have happened in the past for In Times New Roman. It’s a fitting ending for something that started in near mental darkness

But I had tickets to see them so leading up to the show I’ve been re listening to the album to familiarize myself with it and god damn I really enjoy this album now. Also last night was the show and they put on a amazing show. But I do agree some of their best is here and some of their worst is also here. It’s not songs for the deaf or like clockwork, more on the level of like rated r or lullabies to paralyze. Whenever the band finally calls it quits and the greatest hits is made they’ll be at least 4 songs from this album taken that make up that playlist.

I think that people didn't understand the whole concept of this album simply because it was something way different than they had expected from Queens. There's a good explanation on YT, but in short, it's supposed to be slow paced, but hard hitting, psychedelic; make you feel high on emotions. A feeling of a doomed world, cynicism. It hits way harder when you're tired, or mentally exhausted. It's an album that won't have a high value from a critic's perspective, but from a listener's, in a long term, it will.

Almost nothing clicked for me with this album sadly.. I find the main breakup/loss theme actually clashes with most of the songs. (Paper Machete for example, the music makes me want to have fun. The lyrics do not). Because the album is all about Josh - it feels less like a Queens record, more of a 'Josh's band' record. I find myself listening to guitar TONES more than RIFFS.
