God.. sorry to be posting this negative comment, but for me over the years QotSA really lost its lustre and charm to me. I've been a fan of JH for years and years, kind of starting when I first got into Songs for the Deaf and discovering QotSA's backlog after that, and I've stuck with the guy for LtP, EV and the rest, but since the pandemic I kind of fell out of music, I'm a musician myself, and not being able to play live really killed the enjoyment for me so I took a break from actively following/listening to/playing music, but I've been slowly returning to music, but now coming back to QotSA it's really clear to me it's lost it's stride somewhere around LtP.. Yes, there's a lot of songs after that that are genuinely great, but as a project, as a whole vibe, the good stuff just isn't there any more for me. I understand that every band changes and evolves through the years, and I know there's a risk of being an old fan that doesn't wanna accept that, but at the same time, sometimes a band just gets worse over the years. Nobody would argue that the Rolling Stones only got good in the 80's or something for instance, if you know what I mean The guitar tones are too idk.. too scratchy and unclear, I thought that might have something to do with the fact that it's a live performance, but any live show I can find pre 2005-ish doesn't have this issue at all, the guitar sounds thick and buttery, and sticky like good buds.. the drum sound also sounds like a bunch of tubs now and the bass tone doesn't really sound like a solid bass anymore - I know people are gonna hate this but Nick brought a just awesome rock n roll bass tone to the mix that really brought the band together and he's been unparalleled since.. I know why JH felt like he had to kick him out of the band and I think that's laudable he did that, but really, he never managed to find a good replacement? wtf dude. .. Also the the new songs are very.. idk.. Josh's vocal abilities sure have developed, and a lot of the songs are very good in that regard, but for the rest, it kind of feels off somehow, the magic is gone. For me, looking at the live line up around Songs for the Deaf, of JH. Nick, Lanegan, and either Grohl or Trautman (or going back to the OG Alfredo) was the highpoint. I feel tired of pretending otherwise, like as if somehow QotSA will pull out another miracle some day, but I think it's over... sad as it is to say.. I feel like the constant line-up changes didn't do the band any favours in the long run. You've got a whole cast of members and often JH singing songs that used to be sung by other people, and it's just a whole new group of people pretending to be the same band that it used to be in 1999 or whatever, and it's just not. I feel JH would've been better off just starting a new band or a solo project or something. Anyway, that's my rant over, have a good day yall - and i f you disagree, that's all good, I don't mind
@neelpatkar3446 Жыл бұрын
People change and evolve. It’s the only constant in life. So does musical taste and direction. I can’t say I disagree with you, in fact I feel the same way, but JH and the band have earned the right to try out whatever direction they want, and good for them. OG fans may not approve, but I think their new sound appeals to new ears. That being said, I hope their new album coming out this year has at least some heavy, hypnotic tunes, but if not, I’ll just blast their older stuff and move on. 😅
