Ok! No tracking, that’s ok. That’s guna be some serious motivation during the race to stay calm and collect to smash this goal and make a video of the results. Its guna be the greatest video ever!!! Can’t wait to watch. Seriously though, have a great race! The hay is in the barn! Hammer time!!!!!!!!!!! 👊🏼

Good luck next week! I'm sure you'll do great and that the hamstring will be good to go, but this should be quite an adventure as you're obviously very determined and have put in the work to succeed and get that PR. As a sprinter recently running more distance I discovered how tough it is to get any decent quantity of mileage on 100 degree days, but luckily I've gone back to some speed training and hills which I needed to do anyways, and somehow I'm good for tons of reps when it comes to those, but the distance in the heat is brutal and I hit a wall that comes out of nowhere.

The heat can be tough for sure although you can get acclimated if you run in the heat often. Heat acclimation usually takes me a few weeks. Sometimes I like the challenge of heat because you can suffer and feel like you're getting a good workout even when you're not running hard. There is no such things are tough conditions, only tough people.

Went hiking on Northbend about a month ago
@cicirunner5 жыл бұрын
There are some really nice areas to hike there. I unfortunately wasn't able to do the hikes I had planned for my trip. Didn't want to sabotage my race and then after the race I was in no condition to hike lol. Video will be up Wednesday most likely.

Congrats on winning the marathon! We were close on the time as well. Honestly, I think if you choose the right course there is a good chance that you run 2:34:00 or high 2:33:00. When is the video coming out? I am running in the New Haven road race. This is also the 20k championship. Jordan Hasay and Galen Rupp were the winners last year. My goal is to finish in the top 25 or top 30. I recently ran a 4:22 mile and a 15:17 5k. I am not eligible for any money though but that's okay. I probably won't quite be fast enough this year anyways. It will be awesome to maybe meet Jordan Hasay and Galen Rupp potentially. Hasay finished 24th overall including the male runnerx last year I believe. I actually have a friend that ran in the pro field last year. Maybe I will get to see her as well.

You need a footpod for high accuracy distance/speed everywhere. Good luck !

Good luck with your race mission, hope all goes to plan.👍 Your vids are excellent, informative, interesting and funny in places. Ps ha I've just ordered some short shorts!!! Getting close to sub 5 min mile with a 5.10, the shorts could help get me over the line!!

I can feel the hype!! Whether you fail or not I'm excited to see the race video when it comes out. Do you ever find running with the water bottle as annoying? I'm trying to BQ in a race this October, my biggest fear is cramping from drinking too much water at once during the aid stations -- definitely considering getting one.
@cicirunner5 жыл бұрын
It takes some adjusting too but it has never affected the pace or increased my fatigue on runs. All of my long runs (even fast ones at marathon pace) have been with the run bottle. The race will feel just like training. It is reassuring to know that you can take little sips of fluid whenever you want so you don't have to chug at the aid station and get cramps like you were mentioning. It's also nice being able to carry everything and not have to hope the aid station has what I need. I've trained too hard to have the results of my race depend on other people. Everyone has their own strategy for marathon fueling. If we were pros and could have our own custom bottles at each station then that would be ideal, but we have to come up with our own system that works for us. I don't drink a lot compared to most runners but having everything I need in one hand reduces the stress on race day.

I'll definitely have to get one. Can't have the marathon; a race that you've been training for months, to be wrecked by something stupid like a cramp or lack of fueling. Did grandmas marathon back in July, on pace for BQ till I drank a bit too much water, cramped up bad at mile 18 and had to walk for awhile
@cicirunner5 жыл бұрын
Shoot, sorry to hear that. The weather was good this year at that race too. You'll have other opportunities.

cicirunner shooting for Des Moines in late October, it has some hills but nothing too bad. My other backup choice is CIM

I wonder how beat up your legs will be going into that last 6 miles being that the trail will have a lot of uneven spots to run on. hope u dont cramp up. Boston and dallas marathon are run on the street so you have pretty even surface to run on and some wind at your back,

I like to do 10 miles at MP a week before the race. I totally get that you don't want to risk straining your hamstring though. I'm a 2:51 marathoner btw.
@cicirunner5 жыл бұрын
Nice! 6 days ago I was planning to run 10 miles averaging MP with the first 5 being 95% of MP and the last 5 finishing strong with 105% MP. During the 6th mile when I accelerated into the 105% MP effort, I re-aggravated my hamstring. I finished the run but shut the effort down after 8 miles so I did about 8 at MP. It's frustrating, but at this point, there is very little to be gained and more to lose.

As far as watch and pace/distance I would not rely much on the watch. Heavy woods and mist trails throw them off. I'm confident it won't give an accurate pace in the tunnel. But I would suggest putting your HR (if you have that feature) on the first data field or 2nd and rely on effort rather than a skewed pace. Just my thoughts... Goodluck!!
@cicirunner5 жыл бұрын
Good idea. I've trained enough with heart rate to know where I should be. My heart rate sensor has worked well in training but has an infamous reputation of not working during races. Hoping that won't be the case this time!

cicirunner just make sure to give me a shout out (for the badass idea)when you win the race😂😂

Wouldn't you want to wear lighter clothes to avoid getting too hot in the sun? Good luck on the race by the way, I hope you destroy that 2:40 barrier!
@cicirunner5 жыл бұрын
I use the compression for shin splints although at marathon pace that isn't really an issue. I'm really wearing them for the race because they help keep everything tight and I never feel anything. They drown out any minor aches/pains that can come up like a calf cramps so I can use more energy focusing on other things. If it's unusually hot at the start I may ditch the tank top but I'll have to decide before the race so I can pin my number to my shorts in such a case. Thanks for the encouragement.

Wouldn't you want do a final tune up the week of the race? Don't wanna feel flat on race day
@cicirunner5 жыл бұрын
Totally but not when I have a pulled hamstring. I have to weigh the risk and benefits of that. I'd rather shake off a little rust in the race then not be able to push because I'm limping.

I'll do some strides

Just dont get it. Seems like you have a great amount of respect for ryan hall even though he choked in both olympic games but you dont have any respect for alan webb who also choked in olympics . Both runners have american records at their distance and are tremendous atheletes that their names will be in the record books probably for the next 3 decades. Please explain this in a video sometimes as it is very interesting to see what your thoughts are.
