So there is running on Swift ? You need a special treadmill for that ?
@cicirunner
@cicirunner 2 ай бұрын
There is running on Zwift. A foot pad or tread tracker are ways to run on Zwift. Both of those methods though are not 100% accurate so it can be frustrating for a serious runner that obsessed over splits/paces. Usually those can be 0.3-0.5 mph off maybe. May not seem like a lot but for me it is borderline frustrating haha. Smart treadmills are another way to run on Zwift where it gets your treadmill speed directly from blue tooth. They are more expensive than normal treadmills but I found a cheap one for $800 that is also a smart treadmill. That's a good price for any treadmill honestly. I haven't pulled the trigger yet but that model I found on Amazon is a Xterra Fitness TRX3500 model. I'm sure there are others but that one is a lower end price model but still goes 12 mph which is decent.

It's good to do stuff related to virtual races. It is a good way to stay motivated. It was good to see a new video from you. I had to skip the race this weekend. I am thinking that I am going to attend a college in my area. Since it is less expensive. My next race will likely be on the 11th. I am actually thinking about running the 400m. I have run that race once in the 9th grade. I did a mediocre job. I finished 3rd after having second locked up at worst. I died over the final 100m. I had never run the 400m at the time. I am doing a 400m time trial next week. If I can run sub 55 that would be good. I expect to do better than 54 or 55 soon. I am getting better recently both as a runner and on the mental side of running. That can be just a big as the physical part of running sometimes.

The lanes were closed at the time when the schedule told you the lanes were be closed? Inconceivable! Children were trying to learn to swim? Inconceivable! And other people dared use the treadmills for 10 minutes, which prevents you from using them for an hour? Inconceivable!

Love to hear your strategic and descriptive stories! I've had to quit running myself. Bad pronation and tailors bunion. 12 hour workdays is all my feet can survive nowadays. The limitation has actually motivated me to start studying manufacturing processes and music. It'll get to the point where I'll be no good on the production floor, but hey, if I know how to set up machines, make programs, give music lessons and sell instruments, I'll still be able to make the money to have food and fun!

People don't understand that for the self-motivated, personal goals supercede whoever you're racing against. Competition is simply a tool to help you reach your personal goal. So he took the comment personally when you just were commenting on your disappointment in your own race, not having anything to do with the competition

You know it’s ILLEGAL to run on the bike lane and running against traffic on the bike lane seems pretty stupid thing what you’re doing. You’re better off jogging on a neighbourhood or on a trail or use a treadmill. Don’t jog against traffic or at least not on the streets if people are pissing you off.

I am 67 now - ran track/cross country since early 70s. In college days was logging 80-100 miles per week; shorter running shorts did not cling to thighs, less restrictive on the thighs, much cooler, less material - far superior than those longer shorts. Also - Never could get used to wearing spandex type shorts down to mid-thigh or knee - felt like I was ‘hanging out’ too much IMHO. And - if you are running …really running up-tempo to sprint - you do NOT want anything else other than shorter shorts.

If you know anything about the YMCA, their pool hours suck. The lanes are only open half the day and most of that time is by registration only. There are so few slots and lanes in the pool that it fills up so fast that it is nearly impossible to reserve one. They don't even verify that those people who registered show up to swim so likely the lane could be empty and who is going to go to the gym just "in case" someone doesn't show up? A lot of people just reserve the same lanes every day because their is no policing the system. They only allow 2 people to a lane which is inefficient. Most places allow more than that and you swim in a circle. Basically the only free swim time at my YMCA is 6-8pm. That's so inconvenient. And for over $60/month wtf.

Any tips on how to improve my mile time from 4:48 to 4:35? I'm in track season right now and need to get down to 4:35 in about a month - I know most of that will have to come from effort at this point but wondering if there's any specific thing I can do to help myself
@cicirunner
@cicirunner Жыл бұрын
How long ago did you run 4:48? What is your 800 PR? Sometimes the difference is just believing you can do something and digging deep. Also, what were your splits in your last 1600?
@camsrivastava8071
@camsrivastava8071 Жыл бұрын
@@cicirunner I ran 4:48 a week ago. My 800 PR is 2:07 (although I think I could run 2:03-2:04 fresh). In my last 1600 where I ran 4:48 splits were like 1:13 1:13 1:13 1:08
@cicirunner
@cicirunner Жыл бұрын
@@camsrivastava8071 Nice splits but you clearly had a lot of energy in the end. When I run my mile time trials, I like to go out hard and hang on. My splits may not look pretty but it's all about running a faster time, isn't it? I don't purposefully go out super hard, it just always seems to happen and I don't hold back that first lap. You should go out in 68-70 the first lap of your next mile race and see what happens. Sometimes you don't know what your limits are until you test them. Don't tire yourself out that first lap by intentionally going super hard. Just use that adrenaline but try to stay relaxed. Focus a lot on the second lap because your tendency will be to slow down a lot after a fast first lap. Try to only run a 2-3 second positive split on laps 2 and 3. Last lap will always take care of itself.

Loving the videos again. For metrics, I largely agree with you. Coros has a new Effort Pace thing that is like GAP or Power and find this quite useful. If I run some course where don't know the hills, I find live Effort Pace (or GAP/Power) to be really useful, so know that I'm pushing my PR pace but adjusted for hills. I also find cadence to be over hyped, especially since there are elite Kenyans running at 160. It's so individual. I think most people argue you have less injuries at higher cadence, but not proven. For you specifically, left/right balance might be useful. Can look at that live on your watch and see pushing too hard with right leg and try to adjust. For energy drinks, definitely try Propel's Pink Lemonade. Gatorade made this brand for women, but it's amazing haha. Japan's Pocari Sweat is also great, but so expensive outside of Asia so not worth it.
