JUDGE'S TOWER RULES:
-Infinite Life (or players can have 20 life that resets every turn)
-Infinite Mana
-If you CAN/MAY do something, you MUST do something. As soon as you are able to do it.
-Activated abilities must be activated ONCE per turn.
-X is always 3.
-Players share a library and a graveyard.
-If you break any of these rules, miss a trigger, etc...you lose.

@15:03 "there's no period". You got the right behavior, but i just want to point out that being a single sentence isn't actually important. What matters is that it's all one ability. Usually the way to identify the start and end of an ability is a paragraph break, and that paragraph may contain multiple sentences. I say "usually" because i can think of a few exceptions: 1) Sometimes they will put multiple keywords on a single line, and those would be different abilities. Example: the 4 cascades on Apex Devastator are 4 abilities, despite being on a single line, and even a single sentence. 2) Sometimes there can be a so called "reflexive trigger" in the middle of an ability, which will cause another ability to trigger. These usually look like "You may do X. When you do, Y". There's a few other minor variations of the wording, but the word "when" appearing in the middle of a paragraph is critical. Example: Ambulatory Edifice's has an enter the battlefield triggered ability, which contains a reflexive triggered ability. 3) Some abilities are "modal" abilities, meaning they say "choose one" or similar. On modern cards these are formatted as a bulleted list, which one might argue is multiple paragraphs. All the options plus the text that precedes it are a single ability. Example: Aether Channeler has a single ability EDIT: added a 3rd exception, examples, and reworded some things for clarity

An important example of a reflexive trigger is Panglacial Wurm. It's a card so onerous, I wouldn't even suggest it for Judge's Tower. You may cast it when searching your library, and it gums up the stack so bad.

I forget who pointed it out last week, but Scry does technically state "Scry 1 (Look at the top card of your library. You may put that card on the bottom of your library.)" So, it's a may, and I think they must. (Also, requesting River Song in the deck. It would be so very rude.)

You would not be able to respond to putting the counter on jinxed choker as it's part of the same effect that gives control of Jinxed Choker to anither player, and so you dont have control of it until after the counter is already on it

I suggest you add those old cards from like Portal: Three Kingdoms that have abilities that are instant speed but that the text says to activate it at a specific moment. Those will be hard to remember and add variety other than just upkeep/end step triggers. Also, adding creatures with regenerate could be fun (especially if they have an effect). Also, weird stuff like "splice onto arcane" could be interesting.

15:01 it doesn’t matter if there is or isn’t a period, comma, or any other punctuation. If it’s in the same paragraph, it’s all one ability that goes onto the stack and all of it resolves together without anyone gaining priority. However, sometimes abilities can create triggered abilities. They’ll usually have “when you do” or some other “when/whenever/at” word. Take a look at Behemoth of Vault 0 as an example. The card’s last ability is to target a nonland permanent and pay energy equal to that card’s mana value, but the resolution of that ability doesn’t destroy the targeted card. That triggered ability puts another triggered ability on the stack if you pay the energy.

First off great season, Judges tower is always a format that had my interest but I've never had the chance to play it. You guys always seem to have so much fun playing it! Nadu, Winged Wisdom seems purpose made for judges tower, if you can get your hands on it. Dress Down is funny and replaces itself even if it doesn't affect the board too much. Dimir Doppelganger has some of the best flavor text in the game, and makes every creature doubly troublysome. Tidal Barracuda lets you say "oooooh Barracuda" everytime it's played and it makes tidal bell effects even more gas. Tidal Control has two terrible abilities for the price of one! (and I totally didn't find the barracuda while searching for this) Also as a categorical suggestion things like Platinum Empyreon and other "can't" lead to some interesting conundrums.

Hakim, Loreweaver. He doesn't look like he has flying, he has an ability that can only be activated on your upkeep, but will need to be activated when an aura makes it into the graveyard first. He's a personal favorite. Also hes less then $1.

Where are the 90s players? Why is no one calling for Goblin Chirurgeon? Farrel's Zealot? Both cards that involve immediate actions or may triggers. Tidal Influence perhaps? Tacklemaggot, for heaven's sake, one of the rare cards whose Oracle text is probably longer than it's original text... Edit - Nature's Blessing would have been amazing, since it can give a creature an ability indefinitely, but doesn't put a convenient counter to mark it, but sadly you could get round it by giving them a +1/+1 counter instead.

I really enjoy this Judge's Tower coverage, thank you all! I would recommend trying to spice up the deck a bit so we don't see the same cards so frequently. And I think there are some annoying cards that can eventually be removed once we've seen how they play out. For instance I think we've probably had enough of Jinxed Choker for a bit :) I look forward to Season 2!

10:31 Despite all happening before anyone gains priority again, the creatures here actually die before Custody Battle, with only a second round of state-based action checks then catching that it is an Aura on the battlefield not attached to any player or object. State based actions are performed simultaneously for any given check, but here the creatures have to die first or else there's nothing that needs to be done with Custody Battle. And since graveyard order does matter, it should therefore have ended up at the very top of the graveyard (while the creatures can go in either order below it, since they died at the same time). edit: Also Daniel didn't announce each trigger at the start of the next turn's end step, instead just immediately resolving one before acknowledging the next by resolving it in turn. There's some communication policy nuance that goes on with doing so which could allow for a bit more leniency, even at a Judge Tower table, but at the very least triggers that target (like Jinxed Collar) need to have their targets chosen prior to resolving any triggers.

It was the non-monarch player being attacked, so John (Said guy with big beard) never became the monarch. He was a bit wishy-washy to start, but yeah, he ended up attacking the fellow peasant, not the monarch.
