Byron Katie became severely depressed while in her thirties. Over a ten-year period, her depression deepened, and for the last two years, Katie was seldom able to leave her bedroom. Then one morning, in the depths of despair, she experienced a life-changing realization. Katie saw that when she believed her thoughts, she suffered; when she didn’t believe her thoughts, she didn’t suffer. What had been causing her depression was not the world around her, but what she believed about the world around her. In a flash of insight, The Work was born.

I would too. She is humble, real, and gentle. When I imagine sitting with her, I giggle that I would probably make her nuts 😜 I can do the work to help others, it seems, yet I can't handle it for myself. It just gets tangled up. But back to Byron, she is my favorite public human being.

This is where many people get confused .... the truth is "we are our thoughts, actually" (although many want to say we aren't - due to emotional pain) "Our thoughts" are parts of personality dissociated in childhood from trauma (commonly from emotional neglect). This trauma causes rejection of self and part of us gets trapped in thoughts (imaginary worlds within our subconscious), Byron Katie has an awesome way to help you find your dissociated soul parts from childhood trauma, by accessing them through "thoughts" coming from your subconscious, which is a fantastic less painful way besides the common direct version of "emotions" mostly used by therapists. When you remember all the stories connected to the original pain from childhood, you have found how many times you have dissociated due to the trauma. If you find the original trauma, which is usually an infant memory (why emotions can be hard to explain at that age) you can break the curse and undo all the rest following without as much work. The result of healing these parts of your mind, is giving you the ability to cognitive grow up mentally, and the usual requirement is the "acceptance of yourself." When people hurt us as children, we tend to hurt ourselves worse due to the mental development of our brain and our inability to separate our self from others and our emotions from our self. Therefore we are our emotions (under 6 yrs) and other peoples perspective isn't something we can even comprehend until we are over 12 yrs of age. i hope this explains some of findings of Byron Katie to you! It matches psychology, mental health and even the bible.

This is where I get…..I guess confused as to how I can apply this to myself. I had a great childhood, no traumas or anything, but I do have an Anxiety Disorder. So my body(amygdala) is shooting out the fight or flight chemical with no reason. It causes random anxious thoughts so idk I’m trying to apply it but it seems to work for real issues instead of a chemical disorder

I have your book. I thought you must be mad when my children were young. Now we are all older I realise your wisdom helped keep me sane at times. Especially letting go of the stress of the kids not putting their clothes in the laundry 😆 thank you Katie

so many thoughts, feelings, fears, emotions, stresses arise for me, as I watch this video. here's just a few of the things I get flooded with: - emotional pain. - unbearable grief. - homicidal rage. - suicidal depression. - there's a person I sort of/kind of have a crush on, and the whole situation is beyond fucked and completely toxic, and I don't know how to get out... and if I DO get out, I have nothing. - I am a failure in every aspect of my life. - I'm old now, the future is hopeless... - I recall the past and it fills me with rage. - I live in poverty. - fat/diabetic. - how the fuck am I going to change my life around? - perpetually single, without friends (my whole life). - C-PTSD/INFJ/HSP - people I love, got that horrific c-19 jab and I am terrified for them. - panic panic panic...

I would really like to know, how Byron is keeping? I mean like how is she doing, for herself these days, with pandemic and all. I'm the type who checks on others but get checked on less often sometimes. So I'm wondering do people remember to ask how she is doing, as well?
