Funny you should say that. I was thinking, "This guys sounds like a politician with that generic non-answer." Yeah, you may have the "same" quality standards in every plant, but the workers are definitely NOT the same calibre. The work culture is entirely different in Japan compared to other countries, especially in NA.

Awesome, Superb, Great, Amazing Interview - this was perfect and I am SOOO happy you asked about the wait time for vehicles. I know multiple people that ended up buying a different vehicle as the wait time for a RAV4 Hybrid was 1.5-2years. They REALLY need to get that wait time down because they are losing customers. Zack is such a professional and you can see him shine when he is talking DIRECTLY to vendors. Glad we get this content. !!!

I wish there had been a follow-up question asking about the quota of vehicles assigned to Canada versus the US and whether they would increase that quota to clear the backlog in Canada, since US customers seem to only wait a fraction of the time that Canadians have to wait for vehicle delivery after ordering. There's even been reports that RAV4s are available off the lot again at some US dealerships.

I went to a Toyota and Lexus dealership to inquire about the RAV4 Prime and the NX 450h, and both sales people laughed at the wait times when they told me. 3 yrs? It's a joke. Who waits 3 yrs? That's Toyota ignoring Canada on top of the supply chain issues.

Based on my experience as an automation supplier for the Cambridge factory in Ontario, specifically providing pneumatic equipment, I've observed some differences that might shed light on this perception. While the Cambridge factory aims to adhere to the same manufacturing standards set by its Japanese counterparts, a significant distinction lies in the workforce. Manufacturing standards represent the minimal acceptable quality level, but the work ethic and dedication of the employees can elevate the product quality. In this regard, the commitment and expertise of the workforce in Japan may potentially surpass that of other locations, leading to a superior end product. Another vital factor in determining vehicle quality is the supply chain, especially local suppliers. Toyota factories, irrespective of their location, largely act as assembly lines. While the assembly process does influence the overall quality - especially when considering aspects like large module integration - individual components like windows, buttons, valves, cables, and gaskets play a crucial role in determining a vehicle's longevity. A car's panel alignment might not lead to its malfunction, but a faulty valve or a leaky housing certainly can. In my observation, the supply chain in Japan, which includes these local component suppliers, seems to maintain a higher consistent quality. In conclusion, even though factories in different locations might follow similar manufacturing standards, the quality of the end product can vary due to differences in workforce dedication and supply chain quality. This might be why many believe that the Toyota cars made in Japan are superior to those assembled elsewhere.

Another great video Zack and Andrea, there is no doubt that Toyota/Lexus have long wait times and appear to have not been able to ramp up production to shorten these times. But as these gentlemen state this is because of high demand ...... because of highly valued products.

I appreciate Andrea and Zack keeping the performance aspect in play. One of the nice features of my PHEV is how an electric motor can mask the turbo lag. You get the response and feel of a naturally aspirated “big block” from half the cubic inches. (My PHEV has 455 HP and 523 lb ft of torque, gets 104 mpg.)

Love your content. Been watching since the summer when I started looking for a vehicles. I ordered a Camry Hybrid SE in August. And got it about a week ago. Ended up getting bumped to a 2024. Was told about a 3 month wait and got it just under that time frame and can’t be happier. 🙌 thanks for your reviews as they definitely helped me narrow down the vehicle that was right for me. I think other brands from Korea and Japan are taking advantage of Toyota's wait time ( popular Rav4 and hybrids) and gain buyers even though they are regular ICE vehicles

A question I'd ask Toyota is "when they'll actually care about delivering their cars to Canada ? Ordered a GR86 in april 2022 and no news from my car. I ask pretty much every month my dealer when it comes and no news; not on chain yet. At the same time, US customers gets their GR86's after a few weeks waiting, 3-4 month at worse. This is unacceptable; cars should be delivered depending on the date of the order. It's like someone getting before you while in queue; not acceptable. Considering also that the Subaru BRZ is made on the very same chain, how come they can deliver their cars much faster ? Beats me.

The first survey I always review is the safety survey, because driving is the most dangerous day-to-day activity that you can do. After that, I look at the mechanical longevity of the vehicle, because getting to where I need to go is more important than what the radio sounds like. As far as electronics go, GPS and verbal interfacing, along with a heads up type display are what I prefer, so the electronics does not become a distraction while driving, like a cell phone is. The only other desire is modern technology that has a simple interface for older drivers to operate. Oh yeah, and where are all of the "universal" charging stations that allow more than local travel? I live in a storm evacuation area. Where do tens of thousands EV vehicles charge up after making it out of state??? JUST SAYING...

Incredible questions, with some really disappointing answers. The question around why are they coming out with all these fancy sports cars and unique things vs actually just make the vehicles people want in volume was totally skirted by them in the answer, which is incredibly frustrating. It's a shame we can't hold these companies more accountable to their excuses. Some are valid reasons, but some are plain excuses.

Regarding reliability surveys, my Acura RDX gets a low rating because of the infotainment system - which I do not like either.. But I had no issue whatsoever with my 2019, so I bought a new one . A great road SUV!

We have to change our mode of thinking away from big engines and embrace different solutions. The problem with ICE is that there are a lot of moving parts and they physically take up much more space than do smaller, quieter, smoother in operation, electric motors. And there's more power with less effort and much less noise from electric motors. Transmissions also take up space. However, BEVS still have issues like the size of the batteries making for a high floor, the costs of batteries, insurance, battery degradation, and so on. So the immediate solution is have a small electric motor and battery help the smaller combustion engine. If done well, it isn't expensive to maintain. That's what Toyota is doing. But Toyota's BEVs need to improve and fast. The guests did a good job at answering the questions.

It saddens me to hear that Toyota (and really most auto retailers in Canada) don't support station wagons, or something like that. Everybody pushes for SUVs for their higher profit I think. I used to have a Toyota Echo. It only had a sedan in Canada. And it was a very good car for carrying people and had a moderate amount of trunk space. When I went to Hong Kong I saw a hatchback version and thought how great that would be for a small car in Canada. Then Toyota replaced the Echo Sedan with the Yaris, which had no trunk space whatsoever. I think putting hatchbacks and wagons on the low end, compact economy vehicles makes a lot of sense for many consumers on a limited budget as it makes them so much more versatile without necessarily sacrificing fuel economy.

I would also really like the solar roof which Toyota won't let us order for some reason, so if it is not too much trouble, sneak it onto the car. Please Toyota - don't omit the instrument cluster (9:53). I want a speedometer and navigation right on my MID (I don't know what Toyota calls that display - is it Multi Information Display or something else) and I don't want to have to look to the left or the right to find it. That's why I'll never own a Tesla Model 3 or Model Y. Thank you! Oh, wait - as I replay that footage, perhaps there is an MID closer to the windshield? Or right in front (13:11) - I guess it was the lighting that allowed me to miss that central display at 9:53. In any event, please don't ever do what Tesla is doing. On any car. 🙂

+1000 This ^^ . The Tesla model is the very worst. Though properly centered in front of the driver, even the smaller guage cluster set further forward near the windshield on the one car (Prius?) shown bothered. Don't fix what ain't broke. Keep the guages, ideally hooded but regardless, closer in front of the driver. HUDs are a different matter and, when executed well, are great to augment the main digital or analog gauge set. I get the impression that the Prius tried to do both in one unit oddly positioned near the windshield. Fail. The driver instrument display and infotainment panel should be in the same approximate horizontal plane.

@@springertubeExactly. And yes it is the newest Prius that positions the MID closer to the windshield. I don't like it, and at least one reviewer has noted that with the steering wheel positioned to his preference, it cuts off part of the MID.

I've paid to get on a waiting list for the 2024 Land Cruiser. The ONLY reason I'm buying new is because I've been waiting for a hybrid, offroad worthy SUV...and the 4Runner is delayed again. I love my 5.7 V8 Tundra, but I'm tired of the gas it burns. Toyota's going in the right direction.

I am one not wanting a Rav. It’s low tech and dash design is a no go. It’s like sitting in 1990. Overrated and overpriced. I bought a Kia and love it. I feel it’s a better ride overall. Much better tech also. I’ve noticed there are more Rav sitting on local lots. It’s sad that the Tacoma will no longer be offered in anV6. I have a 16 Prius and an 18 Tesla but we had a Tacoma v6 for years and loved it for camping, never worried about passing and towing was great. I’ve sat in new Prius and once seat and wheel was adjusted the wheel was touching my thighs. I’m short and skinny and think breaking up the displays and placing the raised gauges in front of driver was a backward decision.
