This is a Motormouth couple car video answering your questions from Instagram, like: I work from home, should I get a Tesla? Will you get GM SUVs to drive? Should I be worried about Audi reliability? When did you become a gearhead? Toyota Grand Highlander, Volkswagen Atlas or Mazda CX-90? What is happening with the Mercedes-Benz A Class cars? Should I buy a 2023 Mercedes GLC at a discount or get a 2024 model? When will you get the Lincoln Nautilus to drive?

Love the fact that you're giving your opinions straight without any spin to ingratiate yourselves with car manufacturers and are not shy about giving critiques where they may apply. I don't think I've seen any other automotive youtubers critique the cars they test quite to the same extent, which is a testament to how popular you've become so much so that car manufacturers you critique keep sending you more cars to test and inviting you to events. Keep up the great work!

Hi Andrea and Zack, Love your videos! I too share your enthusiasm for manual transmissions and your video got me reminiscing. I've had five over the years. The first was a 1969 Opel GT 4 speed, followed by a 1973 Mazda RX-2 with the rotary engine, 4 speed and believe it or not, a manual choke. Then I went Honda with a 1977 Accord hatchback 4 speed, 1982 Accord Hatchback 4 speed and lastly (and I still have it) a 1993 Honda Del Sol Si with a 5 speed. Loved them all!

Paco, quite a list, but I’m old, I go way back to a 3 pedal ‘65 Volvo 544 (how I wish I had that one back). And today, the 3 pedal ‘98 V70 bought new still rates a place in the garage after 25 years. And more manuals: a Cad powered ‘40 Ford with a LaSalle three speed, ‘65 and two ‘67 Corvettes, an Olds 442, a ‘73 Volvo 140, 1980 Mazda 626 hatchback, and a ‘95 Dakota (@ 285,000 miles, original clutch). I’ve also rowed my share of Roadrangers.

I cannot think of a memory that doesn’t involve something about the car industry (Drive-Ins, old A&Ws, road trips with friends, fixing/helping others, auto shows, family vacations and even stealing)… especially on those days that I’ve be stuck on a city bus! I’ve been blessed to have both family involved (upper administrative management, Ontario’s largest Bailiff company and mechanics) and to have worked in almost every end of the industry (licensed app. mechanic, factory worker, a automotive marketing degree, minor journalism (newspaper), lot boy, detailer, rust proofing, AVIS and ending as a private contractor at Montréal’s airport). I even have a vast collection of magazines and enough books that would rival almost any library. I absolutely love the entire industry, especially the economic end. My Wife??? She drives (and loves) a loaded Jetta. It is black. That is all she knows… literally. So my advice to that first question (lady and toddler with that 2016 VW Jetta)… just keep it. Do not complicate your life and finances with the added burden (always plugging it in!) and expenses of a new(er) hybrid or electric car, unless you really really need one (fat/taller child, growing family, dogs, hoarder). There certainly are better things in life to spend your hard earned money on. A paid off and trouble free VW certainly is not a bad position to be in, besides nobody at her child’s daycare (or the child) probably won’t even notice. I suggest waiting it out, at least for the next little while (interest rates, non-negotiable prices and additional expenses (charging unit or fees)). Thanks for the video.

Kellington, much good advice and info, but plugging in or unplugging my PHEV takes 5 sec, hardly a burden. And I’m not burdened with too frequent trips to the gas station. Over the last 13 months, 11,500 miles, I’ve topped off the tank 15 times with an average of 7.4 gallons. And with your vast experience, you obviously know the importance of that new car smell :^]

We compared a RAV4 hybrid to a Model Y, the dimensions are similar. Even with rebates the Model Y is $11,000 more, the difference in energy costs based on our mileage is about $1,000 more a year for the RAV4, including an oil change. We went with the RAV4 hybrid, it has unlimited range, low depreciation and great reliability.

Hi Zack and Andrea! I am thinking PHEV for the first gentleman. My friend Eric switched from a Y to a S60 recharge and is very happy now he said the ride and handling are both way better. Toyota and Hyundai/Kia have a nice selection as you know. BTW My dad bought a Blazer EV this past Monday. He likes it so far! Gear head from early teens. Grew up on a dairy farm.
@billurban1581
@billurban1581 9 ай бұрын
Greg, my 2023 S60 recharge is 13 months old, 11,500 miles, 110 gallons, 104 miles per gallon. The 41 mile battery easily propels the car 70% of the time but when called on the 455 hp makes this car the ultimate sleeper (0-60 in 4.1, CAR AND DRIVER). There is something seriously wrong with the way mpg estimates are calculated for these PHEVs. And while Zack talked (2:20) about preconditioning EV’s on a cold morning. I do the same thing in this PHEV (cool it down on a warm morning too).

I have multiple friends with Q5s that are 5-10 yrs old, none have had major issues for the 1st 100,000 miles. I agree about it being overkill for the lady looking at a Tesla Y to tote her toddler. If she wants the wow and has the means, why not. But practically speaking a Nissan Leaf or Kia Niro (HEV, PHEV, or EV) would fit the bill nicely.

Hey guys, Great video as always, almost at 50!, You mention the CX-90 having a laggy transmission. I find that to be the case on my Mothers 2021 Kia sorento with the 8 speed auto as well. Did you feel the same about the sorento when it was first redesigned/is it better in 2023?
@jsfbay1
@jsfbay1 9 ай бұрын
Hopefully by the time the CX-70 shows up, they will have fixed the transmission. Hopefully it's only software so that CX-90 owners can get an update. My worry is that it's hardware (are automatic transmissions still hydraulic? I personally think the 48 volt pancake motor was undersized, and if they up the HP of that motor, it will help smooth out the lag and jerkiness.)
@billurban1581
@billurban1581 9 ай бұрын
On most automatic transmissions there’s a way to select your gears, often times a button on the side of the shifter. It’s not that big a deal, a brief hint of a manual transmission.

@@svenhodaka9145 it’s costly to change the timing belt in those engines. If the belt were to break, you have big time issues as well (water pump etc.) … all the competitive vehicles in this class have chain driven engines. All of Honda’s other motors are chain driven as well. Honda just never spent the money to update that 3.5 litre motor to a timing chain. It will be obsolete very soon anyway (3.5)

Kind of off-topic, but I couldn't find a more appropriate place to post this: do I detect a bias against hybrids? My current hybrid, a 2020 Escape Titanium Hybrid, gets almost twice the gas mileage as my previous car, and has a 550+ mile range on one tank of gas. For some of us (I live in Southern California) who like to take longer trips (Northern California, Las Vegas, Colorado and the Mountain West) we have absolutely no range anxiety. We don't have to worry about some technological breakthrough in battery technology making our EV semi-obsolete or worry about finding an functioning charging station, even in urban areas. Also, I get the impression that the electricity to charge their EV is free. Bottom line: like lunch, there is no truly free electricity. Like your reviews and coffee with cars.
