If an object moves with constant velocity, we normally say it's not accelerating. The only difference is when it comes to objects traveling through a curve. In that case, we specifically say tangential acceleration is 0, but normal acceleration is not 0. So in normal cases, what we are talking about is actually tangential acceleration. So a car accelerating forward on a straight road has tangential acceleration but normal acceleration is 0.
