Loved this interview. Daryl lived in such a great time in music to begin with and then made it his own. Love his own work as well. A fan since the 70's. He is a sensual, passionate soulman!

I gotta say that this was a great in depth interview.. So many questions I have never heard asked about Daryl's body of work.. Fantastic !

Saw this 7 months ago but I am offended that they have Daryl on the podcast and are spending time with idle chatter and not honoring their guest. I find that disrespectful. It's like having company come in your home and then ignoring them. These guys owe him an apology. Kudos to Daryl for not dropping off the call. Much more patient than they deserved. These interviewers need to learn some manners. 😎 💘
@toyafrazier3590 Жыл бұрын
This is QLS and how they conduct all interviews. As you can see it's not JUST Quest present - others are on the podcast and they always discuss what's going on in their lives before the interview. I'm sure they fill in their guests beforehand.
@elizabethwitt26219 ай бұрын
@@toyafrazier3590Doesn't give them a right to be rude. Daryl Hall has been in the business for 50 years. Where was the respect for that? Host is full of himself if he thinks he's got the right to be rude. You have a living legend on your show. That's your priority, to be a good host and make your guests feel wanted. He,/they should have apologized to both Daryl and the viewers for not keeping their priorities on Daryl.
@toyafrazier35909 ай бұрын
@@elizabethwitt2621 ma'am they interview living legends on their show all the time. If they'd suddenly switched up the format of the podcast with Darryl then yeah I'd wonder why they're conducting the interview in that manner, but like I said before this is how they start their podcast. There's several personalities that assist Quest with the show. It would be awkward (for a new listener to hear) the podcast begin immediately with the interview with random voices asking questions. Meanwhile routine listeners are wondering how the podcasters are doing, what new projects they're working on, etc. Mr. Hall is fine and probably was more focused on his issues with his partner - which explains months later why their interview was split.

Great interview with Daryl Hall a musical genius and legend. Is Daryl Hall SHY? Are you kidding us. He is super SHY. So many of his interviews either with John Oates or just himself can be painful. Daryl turns red in his face..sometimes his hands are trembling and he answers each question thoughtfully and tries hard. It's killing him but he's doing his very best. The Manager for Daryl Hall should never let this type of pressure be put on this artist. Look Daryl Hall is a gorgeous looking man and artistically Does it all. When will this ever be enough for the public? Be grateful that you get to hear his music.

If you want real details to some of these stories read John's Oates biography, especially about Mottolla. Also great stories of how T-Bone joined the band, its actually pretty damn funny. Daryl is kinda shy in interviews as you see here. But his heart is in it, I think he just expresses himself in other ways. The LFDH episodes were different because he is in his element creating music. The only part missed here is that yes, 1988 Ohh Yeah was the last of that bigger run, BUT 1990's Change of Season is a fan fav and still did produce the hit So Close. I have yet to really see anyone ask him how that change came to be, that album is very stripped down like a 1990 Abandoned Lunchenette. They did almost a 2 year acoustical tour for that album with a live string section included. Wish that would have been touched upon here. That album was the real transition period for the them from 80's superstars to now.

After catching 50 years of interviews, it's hard to think he's shy but it's easy to know he's not an extrovert. Questlove assuming that his listeners don't know stories they have told for decades is just bizarre.

As a keyboard player, I would have liked, to have found out his reaction to various synth/keyboard milestones, i.e. Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Fela Kuti, George Duke, Booker T., Bernie Worrell, Edgar Winter, Rick Wakeman, Keith Emerson, Giorgio Moroder, Jean-Michel Jarre, Chick Corea, etc...and what cross-pollinating inspiration or friendly rivalry may have popped up. I know, Greg Phillinganes was on "We Are The World".

DARYL PODRAS DECIR QUE SOLO CADA UNA QUIERE GRABAR, PERO JAMAS HAN LOGRADO LO QUE HICIERON JUNTOS. SEPARADOS SIMPLEMENTE DARYL Y OASTE. PERO JUNTOS ES LA GRAN FIESTA LOS DEMAS ES HISTORIA. AQUI PARECE QUE PASO ALGO Y NUNCA NINGUNO A DICHO LA REALIDAD. SON AMIGOS PERO!!!!!! YA NO JUNTOS, COMO SE EXPLICA ESTO, SIMPLEMENTE PASO ALGO QUE NI DARYL NI MUCHO MENOS OASTE TE CONTARÁ DARYL DIJO QUE CUANDO UNO ES VIEJO YA NO NECESITABA UN AMIGO, NECESITA ESTAR SOLO. HUUUIUU QUE EXTRAÑO. SIN ENVARGO JHON SIEMPRE A DICHO QUE DARYL ES COMO SU HERMANO ESTE MUCHO MAS SENCILLO BUENO DESDE QUE FUERON DUO JHON FUE MUY HUMILDE Y CONTROLADO. I remember when he had his show Daryls house, when Smokey Robinson was on he made him wait at least three times. Smoky tried to jump in to the song and Darrell just sat there deadpan. Smoky was looking like what’s up? I thought to myself what’s that about, did smoky fart or something. 😂 I’m curious what that was about.🤔 Good show anyway as usual.

I I I I. Sorry but he takes credit for everything as if John Oates wasn't even there & a part of the duo. 🥴🙄 WTH his ego is so obvious. I can see why John's contribution on stage became less & less. Very sad for Oates. I liked it better when John shared more of the lead bc both their voices were great, but so different. I do not like the dismissive nature of DH. js
