It's easy, just increase the scale of the textures until it looks the right size for a large landscape, and you're set :)

Any idea why control + D wont bring up mapping? One problem I have managed to sort was due to updating blender was that the node wrangler add on wasn't enabled so I couldn't preview the nodes. Just in case another noobie like me has the same issue!

The shortcut to bring up texture co-ordinates and mapping is "Control T" :)
