Just dropping a heads up here that a new take comp system in Reaper is currently in dev. It's called play markers and is actually more flexible than Logic comping as it's based on fixed media lanes (like subtracks).
@IDDQDSound2 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's been in development for a while and I'm excited!

I tried it out - it's awesome! Dev is on hold though while they deploy some killer new track grouping features

Play markers were dropped for comping regions - much more comprehensive. Hoping it deploys this month!

I am writing you from 2023. Where is the feature?
@MonkeyBars1 Жыл бұрын
It's called fixed lane comps now and it's currently in the v7.0 prerelease. There are definitely some more kinks and bugs to work out. Looks like a matter of weeks at this point.

great video again, glad reaper is able to do this, comping quickly in recording sessions is a must lol

Indeed! I feel like when it comes to quickness, REAPER takes the cake after a bit of customizing :)

Excellent video, very helpful. There's also the kenny way. 'Move active take to top lane'
@IDDQDSound2 жыл бұрын
True. My personal issue with that action is that it messes up the takes, so it becomes less clear which cut belongs to which take after a while, and everything kinda gets shuffled around a bit :)

Great tutorial, you skipped over the absolute worst part of take folders though. At 2:09 you fixed that split up end bit in a second, how? I find reaper takes don't record neatly into stacks unless you plan it out ahead of time and mark a time range of where you're definitely going to record and end. And sometimes if you record in the middle of it without doing this planning and making the time loop, reaper will sometimes lose the take if others overlap it. You have to explode the whole stack, extend everything out as far as it'll go/heal splits, make sure the longest take is at the top and then implode and THEN you have this perfect stack. Did you find a way to fix it? Also there is an SWS action for moving a set of takes to the top, that's pretty handy along with your duplicate takes method. And you can save comps which is great

At 2:09 I just trimmed it, but yeah I know what you mean about that. In recent Reaper blog video he fixes that issue with a preference change. Lemme get the name of the vid for ya

Arya, on the same idea of importing functions from other daws, i have a question that i would be really glad if you have time to help, please :) I saw a couple years a video from Dash Glitch channel using a function from Cubase that i tried to replicate on Reaper, and even today i still dont know how to do the same thing: -an arpegiator and a vst to generate sounds as fx, at 1:30 he draw the chord(long notes), basic syntesis and everything is easy until around 5:00, when starts the "magic": -he uses a function/action called "merge midi in loop", it transforms the long notes from earlier for the selected item/time selection into short notes created by the arpegiator, with the intention to further fine tune or change these notes later; I tried a lot of things and the best result i had was with that trick using ReaTune to receive Midi signals on another track, plus filter midi on editor , but it was not too effective, if compared to the original arp sounds just bad, tried another things but eventually I just gave up on the idea, until I saw you using a similar trick on the video about Droplets(i think), that practically does the same thing, but i tried here and got problems with the note offs on the midi editor, once a note is pressed, keeps/appears pressed until the same note is triggered again, i believe i already commented about this on the video too, but i didnt found the video or how to explain the problems more exactly (my english isn't good) ... Here is the video from Dash's channel, kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHXbY6amhNSVnqM

Hey Rafael! All you gotta do is right click on your MIDI Items after you wrote the chords and then added the arpeggiator, and then choose 'apply track/take fx to items as new take (MIDI Output) and that should do it! You get a new take with the notes from the arpeggiator printed and you can modify them. Then just press Opt+Shift+T to crop to active take. OR you can also just put the arpeggiator as item fx on the midi item you write, and then glue the item :)
@RafaelSantos_2 жыл бұрын
@@IDDQDSound It worked for pratically most of the cases which i tested yesterday, really thank you!! The 2 cases that didnt worked here were: - using Droplets, the noteoffs still dont get recognized (the note keeps triggered on the midi editor/item even that there is no sound coming fron that note); - if i have a preset/syntesis with an arp on a VST and i wanna modify some of the notes as the videos shows or just get that arp pattern to re-use on another sound, vst or midi item

Hi @IDDQD Sound Thanks for all your help with this. The only thing I wasn't able to do is to select items and heal them. The option in the menu was grayed out. Do you know what I'm doing wrong ?
@IDDQDSound2 жыл бұрын
Hey Fernando! Healing is only for "unsplitting" an item you split earlier. Since you're using different items to get a comp, you can instead glue the item, or use crop to active take!

Logic's quick swipe comps and hold alt to divide into equal parts instead of that split to grid bullshit everybody else is doing, is something im missing everyday.
@IDDQDSound Жыл бұрын
Dividing into equal parts is easy with a mouse modifier
@spiralmoment Жыл бұрын
@@IDDQDSound really, you don't need a script able to do some logic operations? I just installed reaper yesterday, im normally using studio one and Bitwig, but for some reason i've overlooked how awesome reaper is. I always miss the simple cut+alt to divide into equal parts from logic. I always wonder why daws don't have real customisation options like 3d programs like blender and Maya, but it looks like reaper actually do go a good part of the way. I thought I checked out every daw worthwhile at this point, but it seems I didn't, I think it was all the cluttering and different themes that's often shown that turned me off. But it could be what ive been looking for. I already tried to look through the action list and do some quick googling to see if I could replicate the logic divide function but, so far I couldn't figure it out. So please, if you could you give me a little bit more than mouse modifier id be really happy.

@bluesky21452 жыл бұрын
@IDDQD Sound Thanks for the reply. I don't see in the video where the swiping is used to select to select the comp. I see where you're dragging the split point but quick swiping allows for selecting the actual comp with a swipe.. If that's in the video can you please point me to where? Thanks again for the great videos you
