nice , im trying this, im very new to blender and tried adding some logos on the shirts and tattos to my characters but failed lol i used images as planes , but this gave me weird errors... i will try this method next

So how do you do this for an imported model with it's own textures? Mine uses a Vertex Lit Generic BSDF, so I can't select a base color. I got all the way up to the part where you use the Mix Shader and select the base color.

@@FruitZeus yes and no haha I actually got a problem today that I unwrap my sculpt, and was trying to use texture paint, and my colors were kinda appearing in other parts of the object. i read that may be a wrong UV, so i feel that i should get better on this. (usually i don't retopologize my sculpts because i don't animate them atm), sorry for long answer haha

@@13headphones I had the same problem, the solution is to "mark steam" or something like that as much as you can on the model (it creates a red line on the mesh, to cut the UV into different parts, so they don't overlap on the UV map, which is why sometime you have this problem. Basically if you let the computer do the unwrap for you, it will randomly put the ears next to the nose o the UV map, or stuff like that, so if you paint the nose it will go on the ears etc...

I've gotten most of this to work but the tattoo comes out blurry and not in the correct shape. The image I want to use has multiple shapes to make the larger image and its coming out as one solid shape on the character. I've tried to scale it up and down but its only changing the size of the tattoo on the character. Is there something I'm missing that can fix this?

Absolutely! That’s the power of it. Just keep throwing in new mix nodes at the end of the solution to tie another in.

Nice point. In this state, it’s not. But it can always be baked down to texture maps if necessary for a game engine export!

Question about coloured "tattoos". Should you put the colour from the img straight into the mixrgb and the alpha into the alpha or is there a different method?

Maybe using an additional mixrgb node?

Yes you can plug the image into the second spot where it’s black. Or likewise you can just change the color to whatever tattoo color you like.
