The semantics will get you in trouble - because if you think you are "quiet quitting" - then you are mentally turning off. The next raise or promotion will go to someone else - and that reinforces the idea that "the game is rigged against me." Go-getters know that if they are perceived as being indispensable to their employer - the employer is more likely to give the raise or promotion - next time salary negotiations come about. Part of every job is attitude and hustle. Even a sh*ty job requires that.

Now they have to train you and the new guy. The better job goes to someone new, usually a connection, someones kid. My last job hired this girl with absolutely no experience in anything, not even in working in an office as a finance manager. She was barely out of school, and her education was in biology, but she was somebodys kid. They didnt promote the one next in line even tho she dis a great job and worked in banks before so was efficient and experienced. The new finance manager knew nothing and couldn't do her job so they just offloaded her work onto others and hired a guy to do her job for less pay as an underling while she collected the big checks. Paying your dues and trying is done for. The only way for most people to move up the ladder is to switch jobs every 2-4 years. I've been told that others were never asked to do certain jobs because they never did the job properly when asked to do so; management just gave up and asked the people who try to do their jobs well to take the extra load. I never understood why some colleagues did the required amount of work and no more; Now that I've become a little jaded, I completely understand it and, although it's been a lifetime habit of putting more work in than required, I'm now trying to curb the habit and learning to have boundaries; or at least a fair deal when it comes to working with others. I routinely worked through breaks and lunches to get more accomplished and to pick up slack from the disabled and other physically less-capable (e.g. morbidly obese) employees. Managers and workers from other sections routinely complimented me on my work ethic and attitude. Then I was pulled into my manager's office one day, told to sign a termination notice and that was that. I asked why I was being let go and was given the "not a good fit" boilerplate BS. Moral of the story: you can do everything right, be a top performer, and still get 💩canned at any moment. I agree 💯 with quiet quitting.

Nailed it man! The main problem with the media is they consider everything as a problem, if people are quitting their jobs due to over-work stress then it's a bad thing. If people are relating their problems and trying to solve it, then it's a problem to them. From what I understand, doing only the things you are supposed to do is a good thing, at least we are eliminating the over work trend to make your career grow. I myself as a software engineer, used to face such over work situation, and it's not because I just want to, but its due to the environment that has been created around us and its shown that the people who are over working are only the best performer and all.. Doing only what you are supposed to do is a good thing, it promotes work life balance, you get time for yourself to study and keep upto date with latest technologies.

Quiet Quitting is a non-movement because it's not really quitting. You're just doing what is expected and that's fine. Everyone else's plates got smaller, while mine became overloaded for the same pay. If I was paid, I wouldn't complain. And now that people realize that, they are only willing to do things if they are in writing / guaranteed so they can have the courts behind them. And good on them. I barely passed high school, I struggled in college and I started at the bottom rung of a career. But the company had some holes with how it dealt with customers and I slowly became invaluable over time and climbed the ladder, but there was no way I was climbing that ladder by "working harder". The fact was I became really good at handling disgruntled customers that were on verge of leaving and that the company couldn't afford to lose the only engineer capable of retaining some of those high-paying customers, it gives you more leverage when you can turn around to your boss and say, "I need more money or I'll have to look for a job else where" and that actually be something the company has to seriously worry about. Progressing in a career comes down to two things, first having the leverage to make demands and second, having the willingness to move on to another job if your current one is dead-end.

I quit my job as a delivery driver earlier this year. I was there for almost 7 years. I went from being the guy who volunteered to stay late to the guy they primarily asked to stay late to the guy they expected to lean on. I did way more than any other driver, by far, and I was up there with the best employees - aka a handful of managers. My managers treated me very well, we knew it was a team effort. We were the busiest store in all of San Antonio. As years went on, my managers changed over and over. Near the end, they had a bunch of kids as the managers. Same kids I taught, same kids I looked over, same kids I bonded with. But they suddenly had problems with how I worked when they got in charge. I got accused of a lot of horrible stuff, too. Like, state penitentary stuff. Top it all off I never got a raise. Matter of fact, they were reducing mileage pay while gas was going up. So, I quit. It was going downhill for some time. One of my best buddies passed away. I hadn't seen from him in a couple months due to shifts not overlapping. A dozen or so young guys tried to fight me over a delivery. One of them even slapped me. Not a single one was bigger than me but they knew I was on the clock, in uniform, and severely outnumbered. The thing that really felt the most insulting, was when we had a store meeting where people were given awards. I wasn't named. Afterwards, a bunch of the people came up to me and said "I was shocked they didn't name you!" I joked, said the new managers never saw me in my prime... but I was pretty upset internally. The only manager to remain the same was the actual store manager. The night I quit, he texted me asking what happened. I said I'd come in to talk if he wanted, but there was no way I'd come back. He said that was okay, and said "good luck". I knew the guy for 7 years. I was on my way out in a short while anyways, it seemed, because I was coming towards the end of my web dev roadmap. You spend a lot of time thinking and fantasizing when you're on the road. I romanticized how my departure would go. I'd say goodbye to everyone. I'd get my last employee meal. I'd give my boss a Cowboys hat because he liked those and always welcomed more. Instead, I finished my shift, tossed my hat towards one of the kids, and let 'em know I quit. There's a universe where hard work pays off. There's a place when you get the fruits of your labor. I think, really, it's when you're the boss. Like I said, I'm at the first steps of web dev right now. And at some point, I'm going to be self employed. At some point, the hard work that I do all the time will work to my benefit and only my benefit. When that happens, I think I'll get over the nasty feeling in the pit of my stomach that I feel for not being treated properly.
@BGP3692 жыл бұрын
Your manager asking you what happened to cause you to quit.... That is literally his job to know already, the fact he didn't is not surprising unfortunately. The fact he didn't really want to know why is also telling. Get in. Get the experience you need and get out asap to self employment.

@John Smith One of the last arguments I had was when I refused to let a manager give herself a payout on a ticket she didn't take. She, somehow, thought she was in the right solely because she was a manager. She even threatened to get our store manager involved. I said go ahead. I told him exactly what happened, in 5 seconds time, and I had proof so she didn't say anything. He immediately laughed and said I was right. Then left. Now the thing is: she was effectively openly stealing because she thought it wasn't a problem. And all he did was not get in my way. That's kind of insane.

Common story, manager wants to appear great by reducing headcount which means assigning multiple people's jobs to one person and then complains when 1 person can't do 4 peoples jobs. My response to it has always been to be "too busy" to deal with the new duties, when manager complains, point out the things I am taking care of and ask which ones are they happy to fail. I then continue to not do the new duties, even if they demand it, what are they going to do? Fire me? Then they'd have to assign 5 people's jobs to one person and 4 to 1 just failed.

It's totally the opposite. I had a new job which I put in the extra mile to ensure I passed a 6 month probation. When review time came, my probation was extended because my overall score was lower than expected even though the reasons were bought up with my Manager. It was mainly due to an influx of complex cases which meant more time speaking to clients and more time taken to work the cases to completion. In the end I asked what score my manager wanted for a pass and for the next month I did only enough to get that score. When the department was under stress and my manager asked if I could take on extra cases I looked him in the eye and said "No thanks". It was kinda funny actually 😂. Needless to say I passed probation by the end of the month and then applied to transfer to another department straight after. I've maintained that same energy ever since. I earn a little over $170 a day on my salary. It made me think 'Why have I just done a full day to put just over $700 into my boss's pocket and I won't see any of that?' This job was an 'extra' - ie work that came in off the cuff. The rest of our income comes in automatically with pre-signed and agreed contracts with multiple clients, they pay a fixed amount each month for our services so there's money coming in regardless. Because this job was an 'extra' for a client without a contract, all the time spent on it was automatically billable for that day's work. When I crunched the math I said to myself 'I'm not going to do this anymore. Its time I start working for myself, my time for me.' - To that end, I'm in the process of getting a side gig off the ground that I plan to have started and live in the New Year - there's crap loads for me to do, but I'm willing to put the effort in. I don't want to do a full day's work like that again and not see something more for it aha.

@@Ligerpride even we Indians don't follow that BS. Sorry 🙄. Those days are gone and that's what they're mad about 😂. The old school corporations who like to "own" every hour of your day. She's just relaying that mentality sadly. People are woke in terms of jobs nowadays atleast jobs which require soft skills than hard labour. Hard labour isn't even supportive of humans sadly. That's why I'll not talk about THAT dark side.😏.

I remember a really efficient colleague at work, he was a really good react dev, but in return of finishing work early, he got punished with more work. Sometimes i feel the corporate world supports mediocrity and actually prefers slackers. I stopped trying too hard to be professional because professionalism is a two way thing. You cant be professional? Then dont even expect professional.

That news anchor is an Indian lady working for a govt. Propaganda channel...we know her manipulative words. If you don't know...current Indian govt and their supporters are very Islamophobic. They even have good relationship with Israel because of their Islam Hatred. So imagine what type of person this lady must be who is supporting govt.

Better to just show that you are capable rather than actually doing the work

Working the bare minimum is recommended. You work no more than what is needed from you as set by your contract. If you meet those expectations, then nothing more is needed to be done. Majority of your career, it's best to offer consistent results than trying and failing to meet unrealistic expectations. The only exceptions where you need to go up and beyond are applying for a promotion, and an "all hands on deck" type of emergency situation (queuing calls, major system outages, urgent work that needs to be finished immediately, etc.) And those situations are few and far between.
