Truth be told, it's hard to slow down when we finally engage with a group of people who are the same. We are actually walking powder kegs. LOL Yes, I said it and it's a fact. Being silent to rubbish generates hard core evidence against the offenders, who become offended once we speak. Those people see us as a threat. Those who remain in our circle understand. We think more than we talk. It's a natural instinct to share with only those who understand. I've been an introvert all my life and I love it. Being an introvert is being a safe haven for some, but a threat to others. That's true POWER. Embrace it. :) I still do after 58 years on this earth......and counting.

i am proud to be an introvert, i dont think its a bad thing but yes we are social creatures as well and as an introvert i dont want to get caught up in drama, and other peoples shenanigans, i just feel its smart not to say anything and let others deal with their own problems. I'll say a few words or talk about how my day went, but dont expect me to keep talking just because you like to be talk and be social with others. I personally dont like someone to push me into "being social" and talking to other people in person, i am more quiet and there is nothing wrong with being quiet. I like quiet and it is my solitude of handling issues in my life. If I dont want to talk , I dont' want to talk. I don't like it when someone tells me "you're quiet" or "why are you so quiet?" I don't care. That's their problem. Its not that i dont like you or that I'm not interested, I'm simply a person that is not a social person and i think its ok. A lot of people are like that, and i like introverts because we are interesting people and we are smart just like you extroverts that love to talk so much. I like extroverts too but depending on their personality, some of them like to show off, be the center of attention, like to talk a lot or speak their minds about everything and they get what they want, those are the kinds of people I have a hard time with. I don't like it when you "push" us to be social, we are not social people, we are social only by being with people physically and not so much talking. We can nod our heads, say "ok thats cool" or "Wow that's fantastic" or "Im sorry to hear that". I get tired of people saying things like "dont' be shy" because I feel like I'm treated like a little kindergartner. Next time you encounter an introvert, don't judge them or say things to them like I mentioned in my paragraph earlier. If you're an extrovert, be careful what you say, think before you speak, same rules apply to introverts So those are my thoughts of being a gifted introvert that I am and I am proud of myself and you should be too. Don't let anyone convince you otherwise, be yourself.
@Stay7Away7 жыл бұрын
Hayley M i like the fact that you appreciate who you are, and I do too identifying myself as an introvert. Since young, there has always been the pressure due to society to tell introverts "hey start talking" which i think it stupidly adds pressure to introverted kids. I guess people can be smarter to appreciate introverts for their talents, and same for society likewise. to be frank, i see some extroverts who talk bullshit and seems like empty vessels to me. Introverts are equally capable of doing things extroverts are strong in, just that its a steeper learning curve for us. And what introverts have in terms of strength, are probably not what extroverts might have. Society has placed too much value to extroverts and I personally think thats undermining the potential introverts can bring to organisations or social settings. If we talk about empathy needed in organisations and social settings, being an introvert, i think that this is a natural skill set we have in us. And fortunately or unfortunately, this is sorely lacking within the interactions I have seen myself. Why is society then teaching children the wrong values not to be proud of who they are but be who they are not?

Wow that's just how I am you said it well I'm introvert to and get called weird or boring because I don't have anything to say most times.
@reuellefaith58005 жыл бұрын
Hayley M I couldn’t agree more. Introverts are usually accepting of who they are and rarely ever feel like they need to become like extroverts. However they tend to coil back in their shells more and avoid all forms of interaction (usually in public) when other extroverts try to force them to be what they’re not . As a result they do come off as “extremely closed individuals who want nothing to do with anyone social wise” . I am introverted and have found this to be true in my personal life. Some extroverts have said stuff like “wow you sneaked right in out of nowhere”, “why so quiet”, “you are so hard to read”, why don’t you interact more, are you okay, is everything okay with you, you look sad, “you have a soft voice” etc and honestly these comments if anything have made me keep to myself more just to avoid having to explain my “weirdness” to every single being on the planet and always having to be put on the spot because I’m different . My advice to extroverts would be to settle with the reality that we are all different and won’t like or enjoy the same things . Also, guarding their mouths as far as little comments is crucial because once the introvert feels judged or unaccepted, they retreat or start to withdraw. They have zero tolerance for drama and frivolous interactions .

One thing to keep in mind about introverts I that we tend to dive straight into the deep end of a subject and this can drive people away. As an example, I used to be a member of Livemocha and a young Sunni girl sent me an invite to Islam. Being a devout Christian I responded to her message by jumping right into the deep core subjects that make each religion what it is and after a few exchanges she disappeared. if I had been slower in talking and corresponding for a while we could have had a very long and very productive exchange. Another thing to remember is that we tend to prepare very well for what needs to be done.

I find communication is too fast for an introvert. Too much expectation, I prefer to think deeply about what someone has said leaving a pause in the conversation. This is almost always interpreted as something improper or awkward, even impolite. As for myself I actually don't mind those quiet moments between conversation. They can be refreshing if the other embraces it too. There are many snap judgements in regards to someone's worth when they stop to think during conversation. And this misinterpretation should be reflected upon.
@evelynbaron20045 жыл бұрын
Vr well put! My favorite rock artist, Tom Petty, was a classic introvert thrust into the limelight. He did develop social defences (you put them dark glasses on) and maintained a kind of distance from his audience that a gregarious contemporary, Bruce Springsteen, would not even think about. In a CBC interview, Q, he was challenged by Jian Ghomeshi about the fact that he did not always get mentioned when his iconic peers -- Dylan, Paul Simon et al -- were discussed. ~I don`t have time to think about that~ he replied; ~I`m just lucky to be in the conversation. He was famous for being the quiet guy at the back of the hall who didn`t speak unless he had something to say and then it was a double whammy. As the leader of his band, he was a lonely man, but driven to take on the responsibility. When I think of myself as a child, I don`t remember feeling shy; just a quiet attentiveness before I decided to join in any group activities. It`s axiomatic that in sports I was good at distance sports; track and field, swimming, and hopeless at field hockey or baseball. When I was in the corporate world, I HATED being a boss; I just wanted to find creative competent people and let them get on with it. I also hated having to report to someone else in any kind of hierarchy. But things got done. I find the rythmn (sp) of my interactions with people different from classic extroverts; I pay a lot of attention to people, so I need to go off somewhere and recharge my batteries. The best thing I can say about myself is that I have a high tolerance for uncertainty; as long as the creative activity is on-going, I am comfortable waiting for a resolution. But I think and speak quickly; it`s a mystery to quote from Stoppard`s Shakespeare in Love. I think the work of Susan Cain is long overdue; there is a mystique in the US about extroversion being the healthy default temperament, and introversion a kind of maladaptation -- so, so wrong. Tx for your great post!

Great speech. Really great, everything she said was on point and so true. Especially the part at the end where you can distinguish between introverts/extroverts simply by asking yourself the question: once you've been socializing do you feel like you need to recharge, or do you feel energized and want to socialize more... that definitely makes me an introvert. Because I need to recharge, for at least 1 week. Lol Also I want to say I hate Facebook/social media because it annoys me about how much crap people post on there just to get attention to themselves such as uploading a new picture of themselves weekly, or even daily! Or posting themselves having fun. Like who want to see that? Maybe your parents, but just go downstairs and show them on your phone for god sake! you don't have to tell the world lol On top of that you end up wasting so much time scrolling through pointless posts/videos and then suddenly you've wasted 20 minutes of your day and gained NOTHING from it. I would only keep Facebook if there was just relevant posts such as things on the news, or interesting articles / facts or discussing something that's happened etc. But that is definitely not the case. Just a load of rubbish. If you agree with this, trust me, just delete Facebook, you won't regret it.

It's a good illustration of this whole problem : @15:38 introverts know better, but they are sidelined by extraverts, who take the attention, best deals, promotions, etc. This often goes against all progress in society. To answer his question, I suspect that our society favors extroverts, because they are a mean to avoid real debates, real questions. Like the medias and politicians, who often play the role of a smokescreen to divert public attention from the real leaders. These don't want progress, they want to keep their privileges. Of course first of all, it's a natural process, those who talk louder, move faster, etc are often the winners, but our society could and should be a bit more thoughtful and well-reasoned than amoebas, rodents or monkeys ?
@LS-Moto9 жыл бұрын
I really found your video inspiring. But I have to admit, it was kind of tiring. Like many others, I spend a lot of time on my computer and phone. But that's okay because I don't feel alone. You see, I feel best here, here at home. That's because I'm an introvert. For me, too much socialising can hurt. I feel very drained after a long day at work. And all I want to do is lay down alone, to help turn my frown, upside-down. I'm not completely anti-social. I like to hang out with close friends sometimes. But just sometimes. And when I do hang out with those friends, the good times never seem to end. But It's not something I can always do, lest I get a bad case of the blues. You see, for an introvert, technology is a saving grace. I can avoid the pain of random encounters and not have to shop... Over the counter. I can talk to friends who need me without having to sacrifice my solitude. I can be creative and expressive and do what is due. They say introverts express themselves better in words. I don't know if you would ever have been able to hear this or see this, if I had not been able to write it. I don't know if the words would have escaped my mouth if I were forced to say it to your face. You might think I'm a disgrace. But this is who I am, so feel free to hate. I'm not trying to downplay what you said. I'm just trying to get you to see things from a different perspective, which is why I wrote down these words in my head.

I think the world we live in is absolutely favored towards extroverts. I’m an extreme introvert. In kindergarten, I didn’t speak a word to anyone the entire year, my teacher came to my house to watch home videos to see that I could actually talk. I think back in 1993, mental issues weren’t fully understood. All I was told is that there was something wrong with me and I was just shy. Numerous therapists never mentioned that I might be an introvert. I’ve managed to get by somehow but I still deal with being an introvert. I’m not good with large groups. If I’m hanging out with 2 friends, I’m good. If I’m hanging out with 5 or so people, it’s a no go for me, I would stay quiet for the most part. On the weekends, I prefer to spend time with just my wife rather than a group of people. It’s something I deal with almost daily but I wouldn’t change a thing about myself.

Very interesting video. I am an introvert. But I suppose if I was extremely wealthy, I would be living my life as a Playboy. I think I became an introvert because of life's circumstances. Having to always work for others, I found it easier to have a passive attitude and go with the flow. Plus I knew early on that most people are not trustworthy. The less you reveal about yourself the better.
@arm69155 жыл бұрын
Introversion is less of an attitude and more of an inherent difference in brain wiring and living life as a playboy would actually be a bit of a nightmare for many introverts who if they acquired that much money would probably do whatever work they had to and throw themselves into it if they really loved it but probably spend most of their time at home learning more and teaching themselves so they can improve at their work and recharge their batteries by being by themselves reading books, watching movies, or tv and are exhausted faster by social interaction. It is useful to think of extroversion and introversion as a scale rather than a switch.

H3ROxUPRISING you're an extrovert clearly. you couldn't even take the time to spell it correctly. there is no 'a' in extrovert. #turningupmyintrovertednosetoyou :-)

***** i used to be a introvert, became extravert just recently in my life realising i was just as important as all the rest of us here :) i used to put myself behind others until i realised most of us are talking bullshit anyway... its just a matter of how self confident you present your own thoughts... the most dominant person usually ends discussions and imposes his thoughts on the lesser dominant.

kleintjuhD This is the by far the utmost retarted post on introverts I have ever read. Introverts are not unconfident, they prefer to be alone. Extraverts can have low confidence as well.

Talk was given shortly after the publication of her book, so that would have been in 2012 -- noticeable that 'creative' had not yet been turned into a noun as it later (annoyingly) would be.

Surprisingly, the only “educational” video I could find about introversion. Sad. Would love for her to interview me; I get exhausted being around others, mentally and physically.

Extros are always in the mix, always knowing the agenda and policy and the main stream trends, and everything else earthly, but biblically we're not supposed to love anything nor get too involved into anything earthly.

Everything about this is true. The problem is that we now live in a society that is absolutely hell bent on getting everyone to be "group think" oriented. They DONT WANT independent thinking in any way shape or form about anything at all. And I think this is why introverted people are passed over in the work environment and this is why we are so devalued. This is not an age that encourages independent thought or creativity, that's considered dangerous to the new world plan. I think it's important to use the definition of ANTISOCIAL behavior correctly because antisocial behavior is that which does harm to others with intent without guilt remorse or shame, it's opportunistic. Being introverted is NOT equivalent with being antisocial.

I, am a introvert who had the pleasure of getting to know myself and I really enjoy myself because I am intelligent and interesting and I enjoy talking to people who are open to a good conversation. On the other hand, I am a little bit of an extrovert depending on the situation. I enjoy talking to a large group of people and socializing with them if they are not to. over powering. the society rewarding more extraverts than introverts is a market thing. You want to have people acting more on their impulsions so they buy unnecessary things.

My introverted behavior started when I was 7 years old. I notice when I was in the 5 th grade. I feel it depends on where you live how fast or how you accept or to it adapt to it or not. I grew up in NYC That is not a good place to be introverted, but finding other people like you and other people to like you seems to be no problem. Out of 14 million people what are the chances right? Someone will find you or you will run into someone. I liked being an introvert, my family had the problem. In NYC you had to tough kind of. Girls, didn't understand what a introvert was. Extroverts was the tough and rough guys. I actually got girlfriends because they mistaken my introvertness as being " kool ". Introverted guys are mostly good guys too and kind of over honest so I would try to explain to a girl that was attracted to me ," I am not what you think, I am introverted ". One girl, said, " you said you are retarded "! Oh brother, I gave you and let the chips fall as they may.

I find small talk boring. I've been called snobby before because I don't like to talk much to people. I find most people who talk a lot mostly gossip. I hate gossip. I don't like over the top, loud, obnoxious people. If there's something intelligent to talk about then I'm "all in" otherwise mum's the word
