Quiet Time Doesn’t Earn God’s Grace

In less than five minutes, Bryan Chapell reshapes how we view God’s grace and love in light of our quiet time. He reminds us that spiritual disciplines don't manufacture grace, but rather when we feast through Bible reading and prayer we enjoy grace that is already available.

As a new Christian I need to know this because I can easily fall into a performance based relationship with God.

I get these kind of teachings in me/mind/inner being (can’t explain it), when it first happened I was scared thinking I was losing my mind because no preacher (well then..) taught in this way. Until I discovered this channel. I remember clearly hearing Paul Washer for the very first time, I went berserk, it got better..RC Sproul, John Piper, Tim Conway, Voddie Baucham, Francis Chan.. my oh my was I elated. We indeed perish for we lack knowledge and love for the truth.

"The right things for the wrong reasons are wrong!" Exactly. Galatians 5 says those who became circumcised to be justified had fallen from grace - yet Paul circumcises Timothy [Acts 16:3]! What was the difference between the action that was offensive to grace versus the action that was done by grace? The *intention*!

It's so nice to know that on days when I only can get mmm maybe five minute ten minutes in on my quiet time that God is he creator of time and he can turn that five ten minutes into a wonderful time cause I use to feel that way too.

I feel like this is kind of true, but only in certain circumstances. Saying that you didn’t have a long enough quiet time could just mean that you wanted a longer quiet time to be with God. I think he’s right, but it’s more circumstantial.

+Harumi Makida He said, "An old rubric of preachers is, the right things for the wrong reasons are wrong." A rubric, in this instance, means a saying or a proverb.

I don't disagree, but why don't you spend more time telling folks all the positive benefits of time with God ... He finally and partially gets to it at the end, but doesn't stress hard enough the concept of practicing the Word ... He would have done better to start with Scripture ... Matthew 7:21-24, 2 Timothy 3:16-17
