I enjoyed the video very much. I am new to quilt as you go and notice people thought the video too long. I disagreed. I am also new to log cabin design and like you were so detailed. I definitely feel I can now do a log cabin block and feel confident to do it correctly. Thank you your detailed video

I’ve made about 10 of these with vintage embroidery in the center. I’ve never done patchwork or quilting before but this video made it so clear and easy!

Thank you so much for this wonderful video. Finally a quick , easy quilty way to use all those pillow forms I collected over the years and all that fabric!

I learned this from a Woman's Day or Family Circle magazine in the 70s! I still have the pages I ripped out! So glad its still around! Its soooo easy.

Interesting log cabiin square. More scrappy than traditional log cabin (dark side & light side. This is exactly the pillow cover I've been looking for, although I'll use upholstery fabrics, not a quilt as you go technique. Thank you for a great video!

Beautiful fabric but it needs more contrast.

Just to understand correctly, whatever size pillows I have, I would need to do a 1/2 inch bigger for the cover?
@michellelydic13333 жыл бұрын
Yes, she kept saying different sizes throughout which made it difficult for beginners to know exactly the size they needed. You need to add ½ all around for your seam allowance. She should have added a simple written description under her video.
@carolpayne8273 жыл бұрын
What I’ve heard is you make the cover half an inch SMALLER than the pillow form because the pillow form fills out the cover better that way.

It really doesn’t matter, but I have found a 2” square is pretty perfect!

Quilters Showcase from JoAnn. It may be retired, I’m not sure.

Do you ever add another piece of fabric to the back side of the batting so that the fibers of the batting don't come loose inside with the pillow? I'm thinking it might be a good idea to use muslin or something else for that purpose, especially so that if it needs to be laundered the batting doesn't come apart. Or do you always just do it as you've shown, and have you laundered it, as is?
@lexymcnew8636 жыл бұрын
Treezza I’ve never washed these, but yes; if you plan to wash a lot I suppose the batting may deteriorate. I’m sure it would work just fine to secure a muslin to the backing.

Could you use this in making a quilt
@lexymcnew8635 жыл бұрын
Arline Robertson there is a way! You would need to attach a backing fabric as you quilt and then attach all the pieces with finished strips. There is a great Craftsy class about Quilt as You go that really goes into detail with how to attach the squares.

That’s a good idea!!! A bunch of log cabin blocks!! Like 9 in blocks. That would be a great project!

Is it required to have fusible batting?
@lexymcnew8633 жыл бұрын
You could use other types of batting or even pieces of fabric to "quilt as you go". However, the stability and weight of the fusible really makes the project more simple. I learned this process from a Craftsy course and they used fusible fleece so that is what I've always used.

Why use fusible fleece for quilt as you go, lol? It serves no purpose at all.
@barbaralevel72255 жыл бұрын
I use it on pillow backs instead of batting. I then quilt on top. It works great.

Annoying, too much detail, i think people watching sewing videos know the extreme basic information you’re mentioning, i FF thru this and still was too long
@connieallison69315 жыл бұрын
K Dickson I get what you’re saying but 20 minutes is not too long. People curious about sewing will open up many different tutorials without the basic knowledge of sewing techniques. They do this to learn different methods because they were not fortunate to have someone teach them in person who could guide them along each step. Watching different methods fills the bill for the many different styles of learning. I am all for people learning to sew and if just one person learned one thing from this (I am confident the did) then it is a good 20 minute tutorial. When I don’t like a tutorial I just move on and not share it. My negative feelings are left unshared because if I do not have something good to say then I should no say anything at all.
