I see quilting much like I saw knitting. Some of us are process people, who love the making, and some of us are project people. Neither approach is wrong. Ultimately we each wind up in the same place with a finished project. I find my style has changed with my available free time. Having less free time because I watch my grandkids means I focus more on productivity while still enjoying the sewing process. Your wreath will be lovely, Maureen! Thank you for the great tutorial on quilt repair, and I hope all is well with you and yours! ❤

I love making quilts HOWEVER I DECIDED THAT I WILL PUT THE TOPS AWAY UNTIL NEEDED ,I SPEND 1200.00 DOLLARS IN 2023 TO THE LONG ARMER I HAVE FINISHED QUILTS AND NO PLACE TO PUT THEM I GAVE 4AWAY AS CHRISTMAS PRESENTS. SO WITH THAT SAID DO WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD🙏❤🐦🐦

I completely understand about having all the quilt tops lying around when I find a pattern that I love and I know that at some point the good Lord will tell me who it's for I've done that multiple times in the past and it is nice to be able to get let them pick it out and sometimes I even let them pick the backing out as well and you can get it done pretty quickly. And I've also in the past made my nieces and nephews quilts that mermaid when they were younger and one of them brought get back to me and asked if I can make it bigger and so I did I added to the sides and the bottom to fit their current height. Quilting is awesome, and being able to gift it to find it a good home is the best part.

I wasn't expecting the water soluble thread story. Who would have ever thought that could happen?

I never thought of having multiple tops around for people to be able to choose. Thanks for the idea (and the "permission" to NOT finish them before starting something new).

Content providers also have a "life" and getting a video edited and loaded on deadline is difficult at times. We are glad you provide opinions and insights and educational content.

You made my day! I just finished a quilt top and did`nt really have an idea how to do the backing .During the process of making this top ,I sewed the very small leftover pieces on calculator paper strips. Right at the moment I saw your backing I knew what to do.Thank you!

When I started quilting, I felt like I had to completely finish a quilt before starting another project. Then I realized that wasn't a very satisfying way to enjoy my hobby, because I'm always eager to start another project and sometimes things just seem to drag on. A few years ago I gave myself permission to finish quilt tops and put them away until such time that I'm ready to finish them. Some of them have been stacked up for years, and that's okay. If I have the matching fabric to make the binding, I go ahead and cut it then store it with the quilt top.

That is exactly what I do regarding binding.

Did worry about you when you weren't here yesterday and glad you're okay. Thank you for getting me out of the must only do one at a time mindset. I haven't been happy this past year doing that. I love to make tops but then drag when it comes time to do the quilting, etc. Now I'll happily make the tops and get around to the other parts when I feel like it rather than feel obliged to finish on a timeline. Cute quilt by the way and I'd repair her too.

New subscriber here. I’m enjoying your thoughts and perspective. The log cabin wreath BLEW my mind! I have never seen a curved log cabin square! I also like the idea of having tops available for a future person or gifting need. :)

Before I knew any better, I washed (obsessive compulsively) a quilt my grandmother made back in the 30's, twenty years before I was born. I got the quilting gene from her. The quilt is a small bubblegum pink and white drunkard's path. I love it. I know it's going to take a long time to fix it, but it's on my list. Most of the damage is on the seams, so at least there's that. I learned the hard way on that error.

I was given some fabric of brown and beige large flowers. I hated it. Not my style or colors, but there was so much of it, that I decided to make a quilt. the floral fabric is snowballed with a coordinating brown and bordered by white with the same brown cornerstones. I absolutely love this quilt and think it's the most beautiful I have ever made. It has two spots where the edge of the fabric didn't get caught in the seam. It's on my lap right now, as I repair it. I would never throw this one away.

Really enjoy your videos and have used a lot of your suggestions. Funny note here today. Just finished a quilt top that someone in our quilt group had abandoned in our dog bed scrap bags. Our leader pulled it out and asked if I could do something with it. It turned into a nice lap size. Never know what you can find in there, ha ha.

I have cut off a damaged part and rebound. It is a good option when you don't want to repair the whole thing.

Thanks so much for your videos. I totally understand repairing that quilt. But, before I would take off the binding and the borders, I would take the center section out, repair it, make sure I had 1/4" tucked under, and fuse it down to the borders. You have to "re-quilt" the center (and part of the borders) that should hold everything together. You can always use a decorative stitch along the fused seam if you're concerned!
@theopinionatedquilter6 ай бұрын
That is definitely an option.

I like your viewpoint concerning why we quilt. I think most of us have numerous projects going at one time. I really like the gray and pink quilt do your know what that pattern is, if not what size are the pink squares and I could probably create a variation.

I think that I try to finish one project before I start another. The Good Lord convicted me some time ago that I was using too many of the family's financial resources with starting too many projects without finishing them in a timely manner. Also, I have seen quilters having to give up quilting because of aging or medical issues. A friend ended up with 20 black garbage bags full of fabric/unfinished projects which her family had to give away. I don't want to burden my family with those decisions. Some of my quilting friends will comment that they started a project 10 years earlier, and are finally circling back to it. This self-control is difficult to initially practice, but it pays off because I finish projects without financially impacting those around me.

I couldn't agree more with not wanting to burden my family with my quilting projects when I'm gone. That is why I do all those scrap quilts. I do think many quilters buy fabric they are never going to use. I can see it in my donation boxes.

I can see looking at all the projects you have started and analyzing how long/how much, etc. But, that is if quilting is your business. If it’s a hobby, who cares?
