Nice video, Liron, and a lovely paint. I have not used Quinacridone Violet from Schmincke Horadam but instead use Ruby Red from Schmincke, which is also PV19 and is like a Quinacridone Rose in most brands. Quinacridone Violet and Ruby Red seem to be very similar. Very useful colour. Concerning French Ultramarine and Ultramarine Finest from Schmincke, if the paint granulates heavily, it is French Ultramarine, while if it is smooth with no granulation, it is Ultramarine Finest. :) I love Schmincke's French Ultramarine, which is the most granulating Ultramarine I have ever seen; a very enjoyable paint to use.

Thank you - that's great advice for telling them apart (: I guess that would have to do with the variation in the pigment particle sizes. I read that French Ultramarine has larger particles, that reflect more of the red spectrum.

Quite right, Liron. :) You can actually see a visualisation of the French ultramarine leaning more towards red on this brochure on the various versions of Ultramarine on Schmincke's website: www.schmincke.de/fileadmin/downloads/pdf/Produktinformationen_2016/HORADAM_AQUARELL_Ultramarin_Reihe.pdf

Before I even started the video, I saw how much the paint looked like Quinacridone Magenta from Daniel Smith. However, I pulled out one of my studio palettes from about 5 years ago, and the Quinacridone Rose, dry in the palette looks a lot more like what you show in your demo. Do you know what the difference is between Quinacridone Rose and Quinacridone Red? I have a tube of each and they both have the same pigment number. It is hard for me to see the difference; so, I wonder if there is one.

There's actually a great answer to this question in a video by Daniel Smith's owner - John Cogley. He essentially says that PV19 can have different chemical structures. So same pigment, different results. Check it out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e366g2SoapKtbJYm45s

It should be interesting to note the pigment composition of your paints in your sketchbook. Cerulean Hue is it PB15 ? so it's a phtalo and doesn't has granulating strenght and opacity that cerulean genuine has ...

Yes, I actually covered it in a recent episode of The Paint Show (:

Where'd you get the brochure? I'm looking and looking but only finding the PDF.

You can get one through your local art shop, if it stocks Schmincke or through www.jacksonsart.com/schmincke-horadam-watercolour-printed-colour-chart.

I think I like the Daniel Smith version better in your swatches. The color seems a little more vibrant.

Interesting, I can barely tell the difference! 😛 I need to test this on a better quality paper. it make influence the results.

Why is quin violet so reddish? More than Quinacridone Purple
@LironYan6 жыл бұрын
The Schmincke version is indeed more red (I personally like it better this way haha). But Daniel Smith's is also quite red.
