Liron! You are a great teacher. It is like you cover every aspect of your subject so we don't have further questions to ask in the end of the class :) It's always a joy watching your videos. Thank you

If I had to have just three greens in my palette, it would be a Pthalo, Green Gold and Perylene Green. All three are great mixing colors. I love the black you get with Perylene Maroon.

Thank you 🙏🏼 These are definitely great greens to have! I would probably add Sap Green too.

I was using w&n perylene green for a while and didn't like the dullness of it. Never really considered mixing it but your examples made me like it again. Thanks.
@lubapatitucci58316 жыл бұрын
I can see perylene green to be used as a stormy clouds or stormy seas.
@LironYan6 жыл бұрын
Yes, could definitely be used for that. The first thing I imagined after reading the comment, is stormy skies *above a stormy sea* - in particular (:

I can, and will, mix this as close as need be with my White Nights Russian Green (Green), neutral tint and or sodalite genuine ;-) I use greens and learning to get them right. That is a good challenge I have been working on lately.. This shade is will really help me out. Thanks for showing this color and the mixes!

I really love that White Nights Green, but I have heard that the pigment used by White Knights is not light fast. I don't really care all that much, but if you are doing paintings to sell, it might matter.
@LironYan6 жыл бұрын
Haha, white Nights are awesome! I think of getting some more soon. Probably something like Phthalo or Cerulean blue.

For some reason, a Perylene Green martini just flew into my head. It's the thinking man's neutral tint.

was that the thinking man or the "drinking man." LOL!

Haha 😂 It really is about time to take Neutral Tint to the next level.

I love this color. It mixes strangely with certain colors like cobalt turquoise and gives a weird texture, also I like mixing it with PR 122. Schmincke purple magenta. Thank you for your hard work!

My pleasure, thank you 🙏🏼😊 I agree on the weird mixes. You have to really experiment with this one.

This is one of my favorite greens and I really liked the mix with the ultramarine blue, which is a color I almost never use so I may have to reconsider its usefulness. (It's just a boring blue to me and I am the queen of blues, my favorite color!) I like moody combinations like this! You reconfirmed my condemnation of phthalo green as a basically insipid color because it's doubly so next to the Perylene green. As you point out it is not a natural color, although I am finding it here and there in some of the early Spring greens in my woods. It can play nicely at times which is all that keeps it around. However, Perylene green is just plain yummy, a multifaceted beauty! Tyfs!

Thank you ^_^ Oddly enough, with time I found Phthalo Green to be so useful, especially when mixed and grayed down a little by Yellow Ochre, and even French Ultramarine. Who would've thought? =P

Phthalo green alone=MEH. Phthalo green for mixes=😍👌😁👍👍💯💪

Do you find that Schmincke Perylene Green is more opaque than Daniel Smiths Perylene Green? Have you tried the other brands of PBk31? I have only used Winser & Newton's Perylene Green that's listed as having the highest tranparentcy. Schmincke's is listed as totally opaque while Daniel Smith listed theirs as semi-opaque. Just wondering if you have seen any differences?

I like this paint (I have DaVinci). With the easy to make value changes, it sorta paints its own wet in wet look. A few vertical stripes looks like a distant row of poplar or cypress trees or something like that.

Yes, I find this to be true. You can allow it to do whatever it wants (:

A few month ago I got some samples of a very similar color in oil paint now it became esencial on my palette since I do a lot of landscaping painting, I use it for shadows on foliage, is also great on portraits. It have many uses. I I’ll have to get his color for my watercolors. Btw I love and watch all your videos, great job 😊🍾

I have a half pan of Perylene Green in my Schminke Horadam travel kit. I was watching you mix it with your primary colors and got to thinking that maybe you can use it similar to how you would use Daniel Smith's Neutral Tint. As for the bright Phthalo Green, where you said that it just isn't something you would see in nature, I have to say that I see that bright green every year when the trees are in full leaf. This is especially true when there are no clouds and no wildfire smoke covering the bright sun. Have you ever tried QoR watercolors? I just got a set of half pans and so far, I really like them. I first heard about QoR from another artist in the watercolor group. But, she used the tube paints. I think the pan paints are a fairly new product.
@lisathaviu11546 жыл бұрын
I just tried my 1st couple of QoR colors. The Quin Magenta is amazing! I think that the QoR pans are only in 12 colors, in the travel kit. I thought about getting that kit because it's so cute & compact, so I still might get it. I will be taking some Perylene Green to Mexico - it seems like a terrific color to use to paint jungle scenes, especially as the light fades and the jungle gets more mysterious! However, I think that it benefits from a little added brighter green since there seems to be a pretty significant color shift when it dries.

Hi Lisa, I am planning on using the QoR set and as I run out of paint in the half pans, I will just buy the QoR paint in the tubes and refill any empty pans. The QoR set is a little smaller than the Schminke set and fits nicely in my bag. I agree, the Quin Magenta is pretty amazing. I think if Golden gets a lot of positive feedback about the 12 pan set, it might expand to 18, 24, or even 36 pan set. The Perylene Green is kind of dull for my use; but, I think I can get more use out of it by also using a brighter green along with it. By itself, it would probably work for evening or night scenes after the sun has set; but, it's not totally dark.
@lisathaviu11546 жыл бұрын
You might want to try the Jadite from Daniel Smith. It's very dark, but more of a definite green.

I will never use any other watercolour!! (never say never hehe) Love these paints. I bought the high chromo set one month, the earth tones the next, and then the introductory set so I have 29 colours (the quin mageta is the only repeat which you can never have enough of anyway) Amazing paints and I'm happy with them too as the don't use ox gall but still get amazing flow... just stunning!!

Winser & Newton was the 1st to have this pigment and its listed as transparent with W&N. Then Daniel Smith got it and they have it listed as semi-transparent. I wonder why Schmincke got an opaque version of this pigment. I love the color but do not want the opaque version. I have a pan of it though. But I also have W&N and its wonderful.

Another great episode of the paint show. Would definitely use this colour for trees! And the monochromes as you say. I remember ages ago you said you wouldn't mind using oils one day. My mother was an oil painter and she taught us as young children, so I know the feel of them. I have just started playing with gouache and it has many similarities.. would you consider trying it? Or have you done some videos using it already? I can't imagine that I've missed them. Anyway it looks like I'm a little in love with the medium, it's more relaxing than watercolour because you can fix all your mistakes but also takes longer for the same reason. I adore watercolour but am going to use gouache when I just want to play around and have all the time in the world to get the results I want. I never took to acrylics.
@LironYan6 жыл бұрын
I never liked acrylic too! But regarding gouache - I definitely want to try it out (: (as well as oils). I may share some of those adventures too. Thinking of getting just three primary colors and giving it a go.

Is this the color you get when you mix pyrole orange and pthalo blue red shade?
@LironYan4 ай бұрын
I'm not sure actually (: The simplest way I found for mixing it is, funny enough - Neutral Tint + any olive-y green + Pyrrol Scarlet (and perhaps Pyrrol orange could work as well in that case).

Indeed, it's very similar and natural / neutral. I suspect it may even be too neutral. Could mix well with Sap Green (:
