I've never used indiegogo and The Lie Behind the Star is the first comic campaign I'm actually interested inn.

According to our own mathematics, the big bang era universe would certainly collapse into a black hole, but that assumes both our current value of c and same number of dimensions. Also the extreme inflation of the early universe may well have been space itself unfolding into lower dimensions, masically increasing its lower dimensional cross section. The early universe therefore may have been much tinier than a proton

The 10th dimension is kind of like a 'seed' in programming terms. The seed determines what happens, how it happens, where it happens and when it happens when it comes to simulations, it can also determine attributes as well. The lurker sounds like some kind of glitch that threw the whole simulation into whack, or maybe a feature functioning outside of the seeds determination for the purpose of making it so that the simulation has to restart eventually so that a new seed can be born, however the mini universes that advanced civilizations make to protect themselves act as a form of corruption in the files and cause each iteration to be less and less stable, another analogy could be a memory leak causing lag, the dimensional collapse results in more lag and memory leakage basically making something that should be instant take time to happen, the more dimensions that collapse the more lag until there's a total reboot.

I've been learning about exponential equations lately and wanted to add something: Pretty much if something is reduced by half over and over it never reaches 0 and will go on indefinitely, so it seems like in this case there's an infinite variable that is dependent on a finite variable, once the finite variable hits 0, it and the infinite variable reset to where they began, the finite variable is there to pretty much be like, "okay, I've reached a point I can't go past, lets start again" and it reboots. Without that variable to reach 0 time would slow down exponentially, until it would have appeared to have stopped to higher dimensional beings, and if the universe was a simulation eventually the whole thing would crash no matter the computing device running it, so the reset variable is there to prevent things getting to that point. Whatever the force of nature (variable) is that resets the universe at a specific point is, is truly incomprehensible. It's there but there's no way to measure it or perceive it without being outside of time and space (essentially, existing outside of dimensional reality), you can see what effect it has, but not the thing itself, like someone invisible picking up an object in front of you, you know the what (object floating seemingly on its own) but not the how (the person picking it up).

People trash Redemption of Time a lot and sometimes justifiably so, but it did have a lot of cool ideas in it, like the compression of time and the speed of light in higher dimensions. If you can take the good and forget the bad then I'd say it's worth it.
@نجمة-ت8د Жыл бұрын
What would you say the bad is?
@DavidTheGnome69 Жыл бұрын
@@نجمة-ت8د Lots of little things, but mostly the ending. The universe basically resets and plays out all over again, but different because of the matter left behind in the mini-universe. Sophon was in the mini-universe for like a bajillion years, so she comes out and goes to current year Earth, assumes the appearance of a Japanese pornstar that Tianming liked, and finds Tianming in the new universe. She tells him the entire story of the old universe, which he then writes down and publishes as a trilogy of novels called Remembrance of Earth's past under the pen name Cixin Liu. So the original author of the books is a reincarnation of his own character in our real, non-fictional universe and the novels are actually 100% factual and even prophetic. I will absolutely say that Quinn's videos massively elevated the enjoyment and appeal of the 3 body Problem series to me. All credit to the incredible ideas and thought experiments explored in those books, absolutely top shelf stuff, but to me they were not enjoyable experiences to get through due to how it writes its characters and sometimes massively undersells its own ideas with baffling narration choices. Like I don't think we should have ever heard any alien actually speak with their own voice when the VR world was such a perfect way of maintaining that level of abstraction and mystery. Quinn, however, really hones in on what parts of these books are absolutely amazing and perfectly conveys his enthusiasm for them, and it's infectious. I'm hoping the Netflix show keeps all the amazing stuff but does away with a lot of the more cringeworthy character moments.

Haven't read the book but just had this thought. Imo the scariest reason the Lurker could have for destroying the edenic universe would be just boredom. Just for something different to happen

The Three-Body Problem/Remembrance of Earth's Past series is one of the best pieces of science fiction I've ever read. As a Christian, I also noticed the parallels between the ten-dimensional universe and the book of Genesis. The world was created perfect, collapsed because of the evils of sentient life (at least that's how Death's End seemed to portray it before the Lurker was introduced in Redemption of Time), the universe is now a ruin of its former self, and the characters live in hope that Eden will be restored and perfected--that after the universe recollapses, it will create a new ten-dimensional universe, now with a second time dimension, allowing people to make all possible decisions at once and thus preventing the Dark Forrest state. And this recollapse is only made possible because of the sacrifice of an innocent person, Cheng Xen, who has to return her matter to the universe. There are a ton of differences of course too: Cheng Xen isn't a great parallel to Jesus as she is just a normal person (as opposed to the Christian conception of Jesus being fully God and fully human) and is just one of many who have to return her matter to the universe. Another difference would be that Redemption of Time's Spirit is closer to the Hindu conception of god as the universe itself given form, as opposed to the Christian conception of God as a being outside of the universe that created it. Redemption of Time is awesome, but I didn't love it as well as the originally trilogy, personally. I really hated the twist of Ai AA being a clone of Tianming's childhood friend. Death's End already points out how unlikely it was that Tianming and Cheng Xen came so close to being reunited. Add to that the odds that the woman with Cheng Xen would be literally the only other person in the universe with a personal connection to Tianming. That seems like an insane and unnecessary coincidence.

Regarding "the lurker's motive:" given infinite possibilities (infinite time - or lack thereof) everything must happen. Every thought must be thought, every imagining imagined. The more interesting question than "what will happen to our remains when the universe goes dark" is the hard problem of consciousness, which might be posed "how are we even having these experiences," to which the 10D being might be seen as parallel to "we are the universe experiencing itself." As an aside, "A Paradise Built in Hell" really refutes the idea that splinters among ruins turn hostile towards each other. Civilization is predicated on cooperation, which itself is predicated on empathy and compassion, and civilizations must eventually become capable of self annihilation. Hence, it seems very safe to assume that a civilization with insufficient compassion eventually self-annihilates.

It was your first TBP video that got me to read the books (twice). Same thing with Children of Time series. But as soon as I hear “Redemption of Time”, I’m out. I’ll never consider it a part of the TBP and don’t want anything from that book in my brain. I’ll click the like button on my way out.

Hey Quinn, I read these books on your earliest examination videos of them. They are my favorite modern sci fi and one of the best overall sci fi titles. Thanks!

Just finished Deaths End and this is a great way to decompress. My head is jam full of these big themes and existential stuff so I need some time to let some of it out.

There is a very clever hidden reference to Paradise Lost here, way back in the day it became popular among the Clergy to speculate how long Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden, since they were immortal. It very quickly became popular to throw out huge numbers, with Eden lasting hundreds or thousands of years. John Milton turned this on its head, and in Paradise Lost he has Gabriel reveal to Adam and Eve that they were in the Garden for two hours before they fell to Sin, however, as they were in the presence of God this time is essentially meaningless, and could well seem far longer than the rest of their lives, as time has very little meaning when one exists in a perfected state.

Just read Redemption of Time, really enjoyed it and how to filled in the narrative gaps and mysterues presented in the original book trilogy. Also that twist revelation at the end of the final coda, I know some may find it corny as hell, but I thought it was a fun way to end this scifi epic and adds new meaning to the original trilogy name 'Rememberance of Earth's past'

The collapse of all the dimensions to the third reminds me of an explanation of the big bang. As the time frames given for the expansion of the universe and the lowering condensed energy levels decreased as physical space expanded.

Hey, this was great! It answered some of the questions I asked in a previous comment on your video about the Master Races. Oh, my - ‘Religion’ + science fiction = extremely convoluted notions of creation and consciousness lol It seems to me that over all this series needs to be much, much LONGER to truly portray the journey of this multi-dimensional Universe, which unfolds both within and without Time. Very interesting concepts … still no coherent notion of Consciousness or God, which are surely both Love. And still no revelation that only One (Love or ‘Evil’ … fear, rebellion, etc) can actually be …. Real. They are the antithesis of each other. Either One truly Exists, and ‘Time’ would reveal that one is inherently annihilated by the other …. Or nothing exists. Which is clearly absurd. Thank you for all the time and care you put into your videos! 🌹✨
