You're so lucky to have had all those "new" Canadians between 1958 and 1965! They're almost impossible to find in that condition, even here in Canada! You might have some "new old Mint roll" fragments, and should try to get another box from the same source to see if it continues. On JUL-17, 1995, I just went eating dinner at McDonald's Montréal, and got 3 1962s in the same exact near perfect condition as yours in my change! I was quick enough to pull out a quarter, and ask for 25 more 1-cent coins. Not surprisingly, I got another 7 or 8 of these new 1962s! A new old Mint roll was cracked in the cashier's drawer, and would be asking more pennies until she cracks another roll... These 1962s are now safely rolled in my collection. Hope you like my story... ... And very lately, on AUG-07, 2022, I just popped into the trash floor where people in my apt. building put their "trash" and recycling, and came accross HALF A BOX of coins, maybe 15LBS or so! Mostly pennies (Canadian), many USA pennies too including wheat cents, a mixture of nickel, dime, quarters about evenly Canadian & American. Quite a few old UK and France coins, some old mexican pesos, too. The most important thing is that NOTHING is newer than 1984, so many 70s Canadian pennies, and a few USA too, that I'll save. And believe what, ... there was a 1945 WAR NICKEL (USA) in the box, so there was a silver in the trash box...

So I'm Canadian, and the newer Canadian pennies have 2 types there is magnetic and non magnetic coins looks like your book doesn't differ from those. From 2002 - 2003, 2006 - 2011. And some newer pennies have a "P" mark, canadian mint mark, or nothing. If your truly hunting for coins you need a book with those to identify them.

Yeah I knew it got complicated past 2002. In general, I try to keep things simple in my hunts and just search for dates. The Canadian book I have is pretty good, but it certainly doesn't cover everything. Thanks for the info!

I once bought a $2 roll of wheat pennies at a local coin shop back in 2011. The rolls had 1940-58, but the roll that I got was completely filled with wheat pennies from the 10s, 20s, 30s with 2 Indian heads from 1883 and 1896. I heard you might get lucky with those as well from time to time.

Nice box of pennies! You’ll have a lot of upgrades in the penny book for sure. I am pretty close to Canada (living in Washington State) and average 8-10 Canadians a box. I did manage a 1962 young head in the kind of condition you found some of these. Also, I don’t know if it’s just me, but lately, most of the boxes I’ve been hunting are producing a lot of older Au type coins, mainly the memorials.

The 1967 Canadian pennies feature the Rock Dove and were a circulating commemorative coin (100 Anniversary of Canada 1867-1967). Canada last minted the penny in 2012. The 1959 pennies have 2 varieties, a Blunt 5 and a Pointed 5. The Royal Canadian Mint produced Uncirculated (Proof-Like sets) starting in 1954. Thanks for the video.

Serious question quinn. Do you save exceptional business strike coins from 2005-2010? Reason being the mint sets in those years were satin finish and there is a clear difference between the satin finish mint set coins which will grade highly and the business strike coins with regular finish for circulation that have to be dug through for high grade examples. Is this something you do or no?

Good question! Typically, it isn't the owner of the collection that cashes it in. A lot of times, when parents or grandparents pass away, their possessions get passed down. If they get passed down to people who don't know or care about them, they might end up just taking them to the bank.
