Thank you! Finally, a real mechanic!! I've pounded outer races in and out of the hubs on my 1961 Greyhound bus with a chisel just like you did here. Everyone says you have to have a press. I'm sure glad your's wasn't working for this video. Now I'm going to back what I learned years ago. Thanks for a good instructional video.

Many people don't have a press or a shop full of tools. I wanted to show how it's done with a basic set of tools

Explain how a dana 35 or 44a aka 44hd use tapered wheel bearings, I have both in my yard and they use the cheap axle wear out flat rollers

That's what they just sold me at O'Reilly's too I was wondering the same damn thing cuz I was looking for tapered too. it says tapered on the national but they're flat as can be

I did thos job on a 2001 cherokee. Dana 35. Afterwards I noticed that the axle has some play, in and out. Is that a bad axle retainer? Is it OK to have a little play? It's about 1/16 inch or less

It's not uncommon, but that could be a sign of other worn components. Not ideal for bearings longevity either. Good luck.

Id rather press them on way faster and not gonna chew the bearing or retainer up

@@Mr383chevyboy I normally press them off and on, but not everyone has a press in their garage like we do at the auto repair shop. I was showing that it can be done.

Inferior OEM parts that did not hold up very well....Chinese bearings and seals from the factory! Who makes these corporate decisions to save a few pennies on parts, and cause all the pain to the consumer in the future?
