Stoicism doesn’t compel you to endure trivial bs when you don’t need to, it’s about true problems when you’re at crossroads when you can’t avoid bs, and gives you game plans and mindsets to overcome and accept the obstacles. You have better opportunities and that alone grants you reason and motive to pivot. That’s great. Congrats and best wishes on the steps that take you to new places, new highs, and brings a level of uncertainty and risk, because that’s where adventure and rewards from risk-taking are.

Stoicism is something Yankee North non cowboy southern Americans do not do well. Actually I couldn't think of a less stoic society on planet earth. Have to admit it's hard for someone where you come from to remain calm and unbothered in even testing irrate situations like that.

I think the problem a lot of foreigners who regret moving to Japan have is them and not Japan. It draws people who aren’t all that sociable and don’t fit in well in the West and they expect because they like anime that Japan will be some magical world where everything is easier. But it’s actually harder due to language and culture. If you can attract women and meet cool people in the US you can do so in Japan and vice versa.
@Mrgreen4150Ай бұрын
Completely agreed. Foreigners who blame Japan for their reasons for leaving are often this type. They can’t speak Japanese proficiently and make no effort to improve it (they may think they can speak it, but from a Japanese perspective, they are far from business level). Additionally, they lack the specialized skills to compensate for their incomplete Japanese abilities. If someone is fluent in Japanese, possesses excellent skills, and doesn’t fit well in their current company, they can always switch to a company that values work-life balance. Tokyo is just one of the 47 prefectures. If Tokyo doesn’t suit them, they can move anywhere. If they have abilities, they can become independent anytime. It’s the same in every country. Japan, for better or worse, is an ordinary country that is fundamentally no different from other nations. Many people fail to understand this.

Well my leader told me 2 pair with a old guy but doesn’t split the work half and half complained and says didn’t leader teach you. Then in the locker room he said same thing complaining. I said why are you complaining . I said you didn’t teach me but leader taught me right way so go home. This was in Japanese I spoke. And if you were in US can you do the work and I told the complaining guy can you talk to me in English because I can work in Japanese and English. Then he came back this is Japan. And I said once again did you teach me the work and tells me I have to do it a certain way or organize a chair or what line it up for example. Well the leader is helpful. I hope you'll continue to pull through no matter what. I've no interest in moving to Japan whatsoever, or any other country really to be honest. And speaking of that boss of yours? That wpuld definitely be the kind of boss I would want to have when I start working in the future (3rd year college right now). Even though I won't fully understand how you really felt dealing with that guy who was terrible to you, I'm sorry you had to go through that.

I appreciate your ending message in this one James. I just got back today from a week in Japan (my second trip). I went with the mindset of maybe moving and imagining a life in Tokyo long term. I didn't enjoy it as much this 2nd time. I had a hard time meeting anyone and had basically 0 interactions with strangers besides a few stares from salarymen. I do have one friend in Japan that showed me a good time but outside of meeting wit her it was very discouraging. On the flight back to the States I was contemplating whether I should stop studying Japanese and give up on this fantasy. But you reminded me there are decent people in Japan, like my friend, and jerks like the old guy in that kitchen. We can't let that be the reason to give up

Just discovered and subbed your channel. Saw the video about your "one true love" and the ensuing years of depression that followed. You have enough life experience for me to respect you and learn from a bit. I have a set of stories similar to yours. I definitely got my "dragon skin", hehehe. I don't sweat the girls, I see them as a chapter in the total life story. One thing I learned is there is ONLY one constant in life; and that is one's own self. Throughout life many people will come and go, but the one who lives the life will ALWAYS be there every moment. Therefore the highest value is to make one's self as good as possible. A girl is like a guest or a visitor in the life story as a whole.
