Okay okay, so I live in a pretty small town (so the standards aren't set very high) and if I saw a guy like Dream walking around on the streets, my first reaction would probably be, "wow, he could be a model with that face" but when he's compared to the crazy good-looking men circling the internet, I do agree he'd be considered average - perhaps even a little below. It's not uncommon that fan art makes people look way more attractive in drawings than in person. The fan art gave people an idea on what he might look, which he didn't look like at all. i had this odd reaction to seeing his face that the best way i could possible describe is "uncanny valley-ish". and by that i don't mean he didn't look human, i mean he looked off in a way that felt like it wasn't right and i couldn't place why, but i figured it out when i saw the "dream" sign behind him was mirrored- meaning the image was flipped. i flipped the image back the right way and every bit of off i felt vanished, he just looked like a totally normal guy to me suddenly. my brain recognized that the image was flipped before i did so it resulted in me getting a weird feeling from the image. honestly kinda interesting

Having such a large audience and knowing so little about what he looked like, some fans' expectations were TREMENDOUSLY HIGH. So when he turned out to be a normal guy (which he mentioned before, but I guess it just skipped over people's heads), the Internet went nuts. A few people did a full 180 because he didn't meet their fantasies, which is actually kinda sad. But I think the worst part was how the hate rebound on the audience. I'm pretty average in looks and had to step back from Twitter for a solid day because I started feeling awful by just looking at my timeline. Some jokes were funny! Even Dream took a video of himself with the Chad filter just to goof because he agrees he has a prominent chin. But some were just. Bad. I'll repeat here what I said before: It was never about him being super good looking. It was about him being able to meet his best friends he waited years to see. All of this was for his own personal comfort and happiness.

Honestly feel bad for him. He hid his face for that blummin long, finally decided to reveal it (and speaking from experience, it must’ve been kinda terrifying. I myself get nervous just from face revealing to online friends, but a whole ravenous fanbase?!) and then he has a horde of people attack him and call him ugly. And then there are people on the other spectrum being creepy. I don’t know how thick his skin is, but if I were him I’d probably get depressed and stay off social media for months, or just all out leave. I mean, he definitely anticipated the bullying, so his skin’s probably thick enough. Never been a fan of dream, but I don’t think all the insults are fair on him. My own cousin called him ugly, tried lecturing the little hypocrite that he isn’t and that it wasn’t fair to criticize his looks, but she wouldn’t hear otherwise. The standards people hold faceless KZbinrs to are too damn high. Let a guy look like a normal guy, yeesh.

Nah don't worry about him. He was a faceless youtuber not because he was insecure or scared of public reactions. He just saved his face for George, who had not seen his face ever in 7 years. They are having fun now finally being together after 7 years and the love from the community is enormous. If you're outside the fandom, the hate is overflowing, but if you're in the fandom, the love much outwheigh the hate or the ridicule. He hadn't stopped posting since then.
