Stoicism is a school of philosophy that hails from ancient Greece and Rome. Stoicism is a philosophy of life that maximizes positive emotions, reduces negative emotions and helps individuals to hone their virtues of character.
If you got interested in stoicism I would recommend starting with these books:

Yes, our response to the pain can be different, but if we are inwardly feeling pain and outwardly showing, we are ok, then aren't we just pretending we are fine when really we are in fact suffering the pain but just not going on about it.
@shishison4095
@shishison4095 Жыл бұрын
@@abrarsutube 'To suffer is a choice' Doesn't mean to hide your pain away. Pain is pain, all understand that. But suffering is not linked with pain intrinsically. Yes, you can suffer through pain, but you can also suffer without pain, or have pain without suffering. Stoicism argues that suffering is a choice, because through the shifting of perspective, any pain can be endured without suffering. And, as there is no suffering, there is no place for anguish, only for the fruits of life. One can be in pain every breath they take, yet still enjoy life. Pain is only the stimulus, your response is up to you. Showing pain can be done, but if you are not suffering there is no point. If you are suffering however, and you have tried everything to be rid of it you reasonably could on your own, seek help. With a cut, you go to the doctor, with failing eyesight you go to the Ophthalmologists and for mental suffering you go to a philosopher ; ). Or a professional psychiatrist. Either way, there is nothing prohibiting you from seeking relief from suffering, stoicism is only trying to make you immune to it through rigid rationalisations on your place in the uncertainty of the world. Granting people a clear path of good characteristics one can strive to integrate to slowly and painstakingly forge themselves anew.

This is the apex of Buddhist teachings. Buddhism, not the "mindfulness" garbage we are sold everyday through endless webinars and videos of course, is a very stoic way of living, demanding the practitioner to not let itself fall into Mara (Evil, or Temptation) and thus, falling into the bottomless pit that is Suffering. Only through Love, Compassion and Trascendence of inappropiate behaviours and emotions we are truly capable of being happy with absolutely nothing. Just being happy and doing what you have to do.

Big facctsss! Also take the same quote and utilize negative visualization. You could have cardiac arrest at anytime, even today. You can wreck your car anytime, etc.. The point of negative visualization is not to succumb to it, but to appreciate that you still have today! and just like you said, stop waiting for the ''Right time'' Seize it! like tate says, "Attack! 1. Inwardly everything should be different, but outward faith should conform with the crowd 2. Anyone who can make me angry become my master 3. The first rule is to keep untroubled spirit. The second is to look things in the face and know them for what they are 4. When you arise in the morning, think of what a privilege it is to be alive, to think, to enjoy, to love. 5. You have power over your mind - not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength. 6. He suffers more than necessary, who suffers before it is necessary. 7. Be like the cliff against which the waves continually break, but it stands firm and tames the fury of the water around it 8. Nature hath given men one tongue but two ears, that we may hear from others twice as much as we speak. 9. People are frugal in guarding their personal property, but as soon as it comes to squandering time they are most wasteful of the one thing in which it is right to be stingy. 10. Begin at once to live, and count each separate day as a separate life 11. If you really want to escape the things that harras you, what you’re needing is not to be in a different place but to be a different person 12. Until we have begun to go without them, we fail to realize how unnecessary many things are. We’ve been using them not because e needed them but because we had them 13. If a man knows not which port he sails, no wind is favorable. 14. We love ourselves more than other people but care more about their opinion than our own. 15. Here is a rule to remember in future, when anything tempts you to feel bitter: not ‘This is misfortune’, butt ‘To bear this worthily is good fortune’ 16. Man conquers the world by conquering himself 17. Waste no more time arguing what a good man should be. Be one 18. The things you think about determine the quality of your mind 19. If it is not right do not do it, If it is not true do not say it 20. It’s not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters 21. Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is perspective, not the truth 22. Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity 23. It is not the man who has too little, but the man who craves more, that is more 24. Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom 25. Difficulty shows what men are 26. To be everywhere is to be nowhere 27. Death smiles at us all, all we can do is smile back 28. The more we value things outside our control, the less control we have 29. Nothing endures but change 30. A person’s worth is measured by the worth of what he values 31. If you want to improve, be content to be thought foolish and stupid 32. Anger, if not restrained is frequently more hurtful to us than the injury that provokes it 33. No man was ever wise by chance 34. He who is brave is free 35. Reject your sense of injury itself disappears. 36. The willing are led by fate, the reluctant dragged 37. What we do now echoes in eternity 38. While we wait for life - life passes 39. The one who puts the finishing touches on their life each day is never short of time 40. It’s time you to realize that you have something in you more powerful and miraculous than the things that affect you and make you dance like a puppet 41. Wealth consists not in having great possessions, but in having few wants 42. Be silent for the most part, or, if you speak, say only what is necessary and in a few words. 43. All cruelty springs from weakness 44. It is a rough road that leads to the height of greatness 45. Do every act if your life as thought it were the very last act of your life 46. Whatever can happen at anytime can happen today 47. Don’t explain your philosophy Embody it 48. Because a thing seems difficult for you, do not think it is impossible for anyone to accomplish 49. Freedom is secured not by the fulfilling of men’s desires, but by the removal of desire 50. Circumstances don’t make the man, they only reveal him to himself 51. It is not death that man should fear, but he should fear never beginning to live 52. The key is to keep company only with people who uplift you, whose presence calls forth your best 53. Humans have come into for the sake of each other, so either teach them, or learn to bear them 54. It can ruin your life only if it ruins your character. Otherwise, it cannot harm you - inside or out 55. The happines of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts 56. Mastery of reading and writing requires a master still more so life 57. Life is very short and anxious for those who forget the past, neglect the present, and fear the future. 58. Be tolerant with others and strict with yourself 59. Your days are numbered. Use them to throw open the windows of your soul to the sun. If you do not, the sun will soon set, and you with it 60. The best revenge is to be unlike him who performed the injury 61. Sometimes even to live is an act of courage 62. It’s not that we have little time, but more that we waste a good deal of it 63. Whatever happens at all happens as it should, you will find this true, if you watch narrowly 64. Our life is what our thoughts make it 65. How much more grievous are the consequences of anger than the causes of it 66. He who fears death will never do anything worthy of a man who is alive 67. We live only now - everything else is either passed or is unknown 68. Progress is not achieved by luck or accident, but by working on yourself daily 69. In banquets remember that you entertain two guest, body and soul: and whatever you shall have given to the body you soon eject: but what you shall have given to the soul, you keep always 70. No person has the power to have everything they want, but is in their power not to want what they don’t have, and to cheerfully put to good use what they do have 71. If you have seems insufficient to you, then though you posses the world, you will yet be miserable 72. He is the most powerful who has power over himself 73. Difficulties strengthen the mind, as labor does to the body 74. As is a tale, so is life: not how long it ism but how good it is, is what matters 75. Life, if well lived is long enough 76. The best answer to anger is silence. Agreed. But nature set a limit on that - as it did on eating and drinking 77. Nowhere can man find quiter or more untroubled retreat than in his own soul 78. He who has injured thee was either stringer o weaker than thee. If weaker, spare him, if stonger, spare thyself. 79. The impediment to action advanves action. What stands in the way becomes the way 80. To wish to be well is a part of becoming well 81. Receive without conceit, release without struggle 82. No great thing is created suddenly, any more than a bunch of grapes or a fig. If you tell me that you desire a fig, I Answer that there must be time. Let it first blossom, then bear fruit, then ripen 83. We suffer more often in imagination than in reality 84. No man can escape his destiny, the next inquiry being how he may best live the time that he has to live 85. The whole future lies in uncertainty - live immediately 86. Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end 87. But, life is very short and anxious for those who forget the past, neglect the present, and fear the future 88. We suffer not from the events in our lives but from our judgment about them 89. It is our attitude toward events, not events themselves, which we can control. Nothing is by its own nature calamitous, even death is terrible only if we fear it 90. If evil be said of thee, and if it be true - correct thyself. If it is a lie - laugh at it. 91. Attach yourself to what is spiritually superior, regardless of what other people think or do. Hold to your true aspirations no matter what is going on around you 92. Confine yourself to the present 93. No man is free who is not master to himself 94. Very little is needed to make a happy life, it is all within yourself in your way of thinking 95. If you live in harmony with nature you will never be poor, if you live according to what others think, you will never be rich 96. Learn toi be indifferent to what makes no difference 97. The greatest blessing of mankind are within us and within our reach. A wise man is content with his lot, whatever it may be, without wishing for what he has not 98. Man is not worried by real problems so much as by his imagined anxieties about real problems 99. Small-minded people blame others. Average people blame themselves. The wise see all blame as foolishness 100. Respect the past, be open to the future 101. The life we receive is not short but we make it so, we are not ill provided but use what we have wastefully 102. Stay Calm and serene regardless of what life throuws at you

I've seen some crappy stuff and been in some sticky situations and never once did anything I'm ashamed of. Even when in the company of people who didn't have my best interest in mind and tried to persuade me to do things not me. I always stayed true to myself and can look back not with regret but with a lesson learned and stronger mindset. You don't make mistakes in life, you learn and teach yourself hands-on :)

Good morning, I’m a new listening. Will consciously try these practices daily. I’m also new at meditation and desire to learn how to do it proper and correct. Good teaching. Thank you.

"Anyone who can make you angry, becomes your master." That seems really relevant today. It seems like most people spend all their time staring into their phones pissed off all the time. Social media companies know if they keep people angry, they will stay on the site longer and engage more, which equals more profits. Social media has become most people's master.

My grandfather was a man of principle and virtue. I’m a female and he never taught me any of these but showed it through his actions. So in a sense, I live by many of his principles. He influenced me without enforcing anything. ❤
