When the Pirate-Homedefense bit started, i first thought it was this copypasta: Own a musket for home defense, since that's what the founding fathers intended. Four ruffians break into my house. "What the devil?" As I grab my powdered wig and Kentucky rifle. Blow a golf ball sized hole through the first man, he's dead on the spot. Draw my pistol on the second man, miss him entirely because it's smoothbore and nails the neighbors dog. I have to resort to the cannon mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with grape shot, "Tally ho lads" the grape shot shreds two men in the blast, the sound and extra shrapnel set off car alarms. Fix bayonet and charge the last terrified rapscallion. He Bleeds out waiting on the police to arrive since triangular bayonet wounds are impossible to stitch up. Just as the founding fathers intended.

A number of years back down around I think Ft. Myers a man told his girlfriend that he was going to a certain neighborhood to case houses for later robbery. He was spotted in the neighborhood and the police were called so he fled into the kind of swampy pond filled area behind the neighborhood where the police heard a lot of commotion but couldn't determine what was going on. Later, when he didn't return home, his girlfriend called the police and admitted that he had gone to scout out potential burglary locations but had never come back. When the police got a hold of this information they put two and two together and realized what must have happened. When daylight broke they searched the area with wildlife trappers and found a particularly large alligator along with all the evidence they needed to determine what had happened to him. I was told by a Chinese roommate once that they have a saying there in relation to running over someone with your car which translates to "Back-and-forth". This stems from the fact if you run over someone and they live you are responsible for their medical bills which could be quite costly, yet if they die then there is a maximum amount that their family may sue for which could be less than the medical bills. Therefore if you ever run over someone then you would put it in reverse to ensure a lesser payment!

*Edited to give a heads up!* This comment turned out to be about 10 times longer than I had intended. Sorry about that. So, if you are one of those people who don't like comments more than 3 or 4 sentences, at max, you can skip over this. I won't mind. If no one reads it, that's okay, too. It just gives suggestions and advice on how to help reduce the number of people from burglarized your car and vehicles, if not fully stop them from doing so. Also, I'm curious to see what anyone would have to say on this idea, and what they thing about it. Is it a terrible idea? Useless? Good? Does it have potential? Any other thoughts or suggestions on the matter? Thanks in advance. (If anyone does respond, let alone read all of it.) Lol, so OP's comment kind of reminded me of ways to keep people from breaking into your car. If you keep your car filthy; such as, full of old fast food bags, speeding tickets you've no intentions of paying, maybe some old divorce papers strewn in the back seat, a few pints of transmission fluid and motor oil, (preferably leaking slightly, or with some smudged all over the bottle.) And a few loose baby diapers (not dirty, as thats just not necessary. Too far, man.) Maybe some old changes of clothes or something, and whatever other crap (preferably non perishable, as you don't want to have to suffer the reek.) then any kind of car jacker, or their who is looking for anything of value, won't want to waste their time digging through all that, and will likely assume there isn't anything worth stealing! Strangely enough, police actually recommend you leave your windows down and/or your car doors unlocked, if you are in an area where car thefts and burglaries are a prominent issue. One reason, because the thrives won't have to break your window to search your car, (save you the cost and time of replacing the windows.) AND because a lot of thrives assume that if anything is worth stealing, it would be kept locked up and safe, as much as possible. So there is some logic to it, really. Oh! As for the garbage strewn about, you can just keep a bag of random loose papers and junk, then dump them in your back seat and passenger side floor and seat, then put them all back in the bag when you're ready to leave! Takes a minute or two to clean up, but its made a difference for me and a couple of my friends, at least. We live in a car burglary area, and my car was burgled 3 times in 2 months. (And an average of 3-5 times a year.) After that, I started doing these things, and my car hasn't been messed with once, in the past 3 years! Not really related to the video topic directly. But, I thought someone might take interest in it. Hopefully it can help someone else out there, who is subjected to regular car burglaries.

I’m not going to come back here but I’m just gonna say this. Many people who want gun control don’t necessarily want all guns gone but rather better safety laws and education especially for people who should be supervised while having a firearm, like kids and teens, and those who should not own them due to things like mental instability. I don’t mind people owning a rifle or two for hunting or perhaps a small handgun. Many school shootings happen because a kid is allowed access to their parent’s firearms and either haven’t been properly trained with it or they go about to actually cause harm. Also many people see a gun as a way of defense but either the proper safety measures needed would be too much of a hassle or others could get caught in the crossfire

Hey man, I'm studying law in Brazil, and made a paper about "self defense", which is called here "legitimate defense", and wrote a topic about this subject. According to brazilian law, you are in your perfect right to use any kind of "ofendículos", (any kind of "trap"(for lack of better word)) whose whole effectiveness derives form it being visible, and that everyone can promptly realize it's perilous nature. i.e. barbed wire, blades on top of fences, etc. But, there are what is called "mecanismos de defesa mecânica preordenada", or preemptive defense devices, in a free translation, whose effectiveness derives from them being occult up to their activation (i.e., shotgun on door, mines, etc.). Those are extremely illegal, although their usage MAY, and that's a big may, be justified. Mainly, if it was actually used to defend someone's LIFE, not their stuff.

In Germany it's the other way round. Lawschool teaches the 'hells angels case', where (you guessed it) a member of the hells angels shot a policeman through the door while they were trying to get into his house to arrest him for the weapon he owned (but he had a license for it). He did so because he was thinking the policemen were bandidos as he expected revenge from them. The officer died later in hospital and the shooter got an acquittal since he was in an ETBI situation. ETBI is short for Erlaubnistatbestandsirrtum, which basically means circumstances in which the defendant falsely thinks of a situation where his actions would be covered by self defense. Which was the case here. Eventually the High Court blamed the police for not revealing themselves while trying to arrest the guy.

@@kirkjohnson6638 Yes. "I attached a string between the doorknob and the trigger of this propped up shotgun. This makes me Einstein!" This takes the same amount of thought as slamming the door to remove a loose tooth. Unless you are manufacturing the weapon yourself or have set up some complicated rubegoldberg machine trap, then it shows no signs regarding someone's cognitive efficiency. In fact, it shows the opposite for someone to set this up.

Then the androids turn on the vent system and toss the dead bodies into the incinerator.

Speaking of unintended trespassing: Once I was on a walk through a field, and when I was approaching the gate at the exit I noticed that there was a sign on the other side. It said not to enter the field because game hunting could be taking place at any time.

I mean if you are intentionally attempting to intrude into someone’s home with ambiguous intent to either do them harm or rob them while they are there you are sending a message that you are completely willing to face any consequences that may come to you in this action which you premeditated. So whether or not you want to die doesn’t really matter Bc your actions have already consented to your death.

When you mentioned the guy in Ireland getting sentenced to 6 years in prison, it made me realize how screwed our prison system is. They hand out ridiculous sentences here, like 100+ years.

That was for manslaughter which averages 1 to 10 years in America depending on factors, so 6 is about comparable. 100+ year sentences in America are usually for extreme things like murder, multiple rape, cannabilism, all three, or selling crack in a schoolzone
