On the Commercial RTU side with equipment several months out you have no choice but to patch it and limp it a long until the new unit arrives. Residential side it would honestly depend on what needs to be repaired and then obviously being out of warranty up to the customer as to what they can/want to pay. Because let's be honest even worst case scenario it needs a compressor the new compressor w/labor is still only a fraction of a new system. 9/10 if the system has never really had any other major issues the customer is probably going with repair over replace.

Replace NOW! It’ll be another 10 years when they introduce another low GWP requirement and it’ll be lower than 454B, so do it now and hope you can skip this phase.

That’s right bandaidethat system. You have the chance to pay 3 x as much in a couple of months. 410a mags are not going to give up that profit. Look at historic reality.

Always fix. New systems are not reliable especially after 5 years.
