Hey Josh, the Ameristar units do now have a spine fin coil, and are made here in Texas at the Tyler plant. I agree with most of your comments, however, with so many manufacturers having coil leak issues I would suggest to you, now more than ever, that it’s important to go with a manufacturing company that has experience working with all aluminum products. The only manufacturers that have experience, to my knowledge, is the American Standard/Trane family. As you know they have ALWAYS had the spine fin coil in condensers. Everyone else has a learning curve to go through. There is a reason they have always been rated as best with fewest repairs. Now with so many people putting different names on low end units, you should go with something you know you can trust! Especially with the prices being what they are! We have seen Lennox loose a class action over Freon leaks, and many others are going through the same problems! As much as they cost, just buy a American Standard or Trane that will last 15-29 years.

@@NewHVACGuide I just was in the market for a new AC and HVAC company I went with a highly recommended company that sold Trane, Ameristar and Armstrong Air. Ameristar was still made in China as of June 2021 and is microchannel. They said they heard Ingersoll Rand was planning on making all their brands in America, but are waiting to see the tax structure under Biden's Administration and may stick with China or Mexico for the Ameristar and RunTru if they get hit with high business taxes. I was more in the market for the midline Armstrong Air, which most of their execs and installers have chosen for their own houses due to decent price, quality, ease of getting parts and low repairs for failed parts. I went with the Armstrong Air to replace our murdered top of the line Trane. (Loved the Trane, but a HVAC and plumbing company had to move the condenser unit to put in a new sewer line and they did not follow correct practices in removing the unit and reinstalling the unit and their actions led to killing the compressor).

Hello! Trane and AmStan are the same. That said, my opinion is they are better than Carrier. However, that’s just my experience. If your contractor loves Carrier, go with what they love. Humidity will be better controlled with an inverter system. It may cost more, but you’ll save money on your electric bills. The Cadillac would be a 20 seer Trane or AmStan with a Tam9 air handler, which won’t rust since it’s a polycarbonate cabinet! Just my two cents 🙂
@Balticblue93
@Balticblue93 Жыл бұрын
Definitely get a variable speed blower on the air handler and at least two stage on the heat pump or furnace. You can get a great dehumidifier included that will pull off a lot of humidity. Insist on a good thermostat to control it all properly. All those brands including Bryant will be great choices. Get the best you can afford but avoid the HVAC companies that advertise on tv and the radio. You will pay through the nose. Go with a smaller operation based on quality, not overpriced junk.

It'd be interesting to get some cost comparisons for a complete RunTru HVAC install versus say Trane and American Standard. There definitely should be some cost savings - especially if you're only looking at basic and mid-tier level units. They're not going to offer the higher end stuff like 18 SEER 2-Stage AC units. But they do have All-Aluminum coils and scroll compressors....assembled in TX. You hear about Evap Coils failing across all brands - why not save some money with using a RunTru and hope for a good 15 years run with the fancy bells & whistles and marketing ads? Of course - try to get labor warranty coverage and a reputable HVAC shop with good experience with the brands they're installing. Is your HVAC tech also a Trane Dealer? I know of a couple of Trane Dealers here that also installs RunTru/Ameristar depending on customer's needs and budget - so they offer both options.

A few years ago my 1988 AC system gave out. Compressor just spun a few times and locked up with a clank. It was all Trane and it lasted more than long enough. I called the company that installed it decades ago and they were booked up for weeks, They gave me the number of a former employee that was starting his own company that might be able to get to it. So I called and he said he could get to it in 5 days. So I spent nearly a week in a 94 degree house. No big deal. The morning he is to replace it he shows up and cuts the condenser loose, then tells me he can't get a 3 ton replacement since it is R22. Understood. But he said he can't do it today and he has a friend that can and can be here tomorrow with a new A coil and condenser for the new refrigerant. I said great but all he could get was Ameristar at the time. I didn't care, I just wanted AC. So the next day a guy shows up in a pickup, no markings or contractor # and does what I thought was a good job. It still works fine. I paid the second contractor and he said he would email me the contract and warrantees. He never did. This was all fly by night companies but it's working fine. Over $5,000 for a Trane unit that operated less than 100 days total. Then was sabotaged by someone who knew exactly where the coil is sitting behind panel cover. Called 1800Trane and asked if installer had been reimbursed for labor,on the warranty claim on the defective unit. Or did he not get paid for work,and now wants revenge. Trane would not answer. Is a Trane worth spending the extra money over a Rheem 3.5 ton 13.4 Seer package unit for a rooftop installation? An HVAC contractor is coming over and is going to quote us on heat pumps from both brands. Which is more reliable and less costly to repair? Our 19 year-old Tempstar 3.5 ton 12 SEER heat pump has a refrigerant leak and not worth repairing. Thanks!

Never buy a Lennox I am in a nightmare I never knew an Hvac unit can make you sick and toxic. See Thomas vs Lennox 2015 and Allen Kelly installed the defective unit copper coils in late 2015. They knowingly sold us a defective unit. The blower motor burned up and put toxic fumes in home coils leaking, motherboard, and finally now their is a crack in the heat exchanger and i have no heat, only 6 yrs old 13k and AK will not repair it and passed us off to deal with Lennox which is impossible. I have been battling this for over one year. They took our good green money and sold a defective class action lawsuit. And we trusted them.

Got a quote the other day for a replacement on my 20 year old heat pump, ( tempstar). They quoted me $19k for a 2.5 ton Trane XV19 with tam9 AH New ductwork and registers. I have 9 total ducts currently a spider box set up that's pretty old. This is a single story 1400 SQ ft house. Seems kind of steep imo. I have a other company coming to give an estimate tomorrow, they are an American Standard dealer. My question is does the $19k seem about right?

@@waynespringer501 Out of curiosity - how's the new Goodman units running? With the heat we've gotten most places around the country, how did your new Goodman HVAC system perform? I'm also leaning towards something like a Goodman, RunTru, Comfortmaker, Armstrong Air, etc. --- to save some bucks versus paying premium prices for the premium names. Even with the premium brands they have issues whether it be leaking Evap coils or whatever and new stuff will probably only last 15 years. Then the more premium bells & whistles units may be over-engineered and damn hell expensive to repair.

@@NewHVACGuide The power of honesty in business and life cannot be overstated. Businesses that operate with integrity and honesty are more likely to build trust with customers, attract top talent, and maintain a positive reputation in the community. It all boils down to your conduct and ethics as an individual. Businesses are no more than a reflection of the mind that brought it to fruition. While it may be tempting to cut corners or bend the rules in order to get ahead, the long-term consequences of such actions are simply not worth it. By establishing a culture of honesty and integrity, businesses and individuals can drive success and build a strong foundation for the future.

I would not touch a new Trane or American standard for anything.My Parents house had two 1998 Trane Heat pumps a 5 ton and a 3 ton split unit have been great not one problem save for cleaning they were replaced in 2019 with mix of Daikin and Amana for efficiency. Trane/American standard went down the tubes in 2009 when Rand bought them out.My Dad owns rental properties that I help him take care of. In the last year I have had to replace a 3 compressors on Trane heatpump units and they were L.G. compressors that came out of them the units are not old at all. My Dad has stopped using Trane on his rental properties. Trane has always bragged about making there own Climatuff compressors that is no longer true, Thats false advertisement to me. They tell you that Snowball 1 and 2 climatuff compressor story when they sell you a system, I know they showed me that crap and they pointed out that's why Trane costs more than the other guys. When it got to -5 this past February . I had to turn off my Rheem heat pump when it gets below 20 its useless and use gas log but my Daikin mini split Extra low temp that is in the basement media room/mother in law apartment had zero problems . We just stayed down there the temp never dropped below 70 which is what it was set at. No more Trane for Us ...
