That first story reminds me of when my mother gave me a lecture about not shaving my legs. She said it was disgusting. My father walked by during the conversation and I turned to him and said "hey dad, did you know your legs are disgusting?" He laughed, but my mother was not pleased.

So, for those new to this video. The first story's OP has posted a 2nd update and another conflict with their father. Basically, the OP came out and is doing well. Their parents are accepting and learning. On the other hand, another conflict happened a month after the story's 2nd update. Basically, the father was demoralizing the wife for being a SAHM, so the OP made a slideshow about the financials that the mother/wife would technically be paid to a nanny/chef/nurse/etc. for the care and work she puts in nonstop while the father is making money. The father and OP got into it arguing, the father saying the finances are none of OP's business, and OP saying that her mother's work and care deserves appreciation and respect.

@@LostSoulchild89 I found the post and her comments and another update. OP is SAVAGE! Here’s one of her comments: “My mom has never been the "shutting down" type with my dad, so I didn't expect that to happen. To be fair, I kind of set him off in the beginning. After he kept insisting on the shotgun thing (saying he was going to go to the dance with it so the boy knows who's dad he's messing with, I asked him: "Do you actually have your own personality, or do you just enjoy being a walking stereotype?" He did not take that well.” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 And here’s the update: “Hi Reddit, A lot of people have been messaging me asking for an update, and first of all, I just want to thank you all for the outpouring of support. I think we can all agree that the internet can bring out the best and worst in people - in this case, wow. Nothing but the best, no hateful DMs whatsoever or weird shit, just genuine people sending love. This could not be more appreciated, trust me. So the first thing I'd like to say is a lot of people were worried for my safety, but rest assured I am 100% fine. Apologies for not updating sooner, but as you can imagine, things got crazy and with a multiple balls in the air (metaphorically, I'm gay lol) I just felt the dust wasn't settled enough to post an update. But we're here now! I want to start by saying that my relationship with my family, especially my dad, is continuously improving. Let's rewind to the return from the trip to Taco Bell. So where we left off, my sister and I went to TB and hung out in the parking lot for a while. She told me that eventually, we would have to go home, and I realized she was right. So I drove us home. Not gonna lie, I was shaking. I didn't know quite what I would be walking into. When I got home, the house was weirdly quiet. I think my mom was in my parents' room, and my dad was out on the back porch with a beer. Not catatonic, exactly, but alarmingly still. I'd gotten him some TB before my sister and I left (it always used to be our thing) - a cruchwrap (or what I call the meat frisbee). I went out on the porch and sat down, asked if we could talk. He said yes, but it was minutes of awkward silence. Eventually he told me he was surprised. I asked why, and he said "well, you just don't look gay". This wasn't surprising. Without revealing details about my appearance or my location, I'm from the suburbs and I look like it. To my dad, he has a very specific idea of what a gay girl looks like, so it just didn't quite compute for him at the time. I kind of said "well, I don't know what to tell you there". There was quite a bit more silence and tension. And, being me, I decided to break the ice by saying something cheeky. I asked him if he had any tips for me from his frat days. When he asked what I meant, I said something along the lines of "oh, you know. For scoring points with the ladies". This was where the mood shifted. He lost it laughing, and I did too. I knew then everything was going to be absolutely fine between us. My parents both have a lot to learn about this stuff. While my parents try to be open-minded, they have a lot of confusion about LGBTQ+ stuff (for example, they're not fully there on understanding pronouns. I'm trying to get them there). But they're more and more on board with what it means to have a gay daughter. And frankly, I'm new here, so I'm figuring out what it means to be gay too. For those wondering, I went to the dance and it was well...a high school dance. A fun time but nothing lifechanging. I've been coming out to my friends slowly but surely, and the reaction has been hilarious. Essentially the overwhelming response is "yeah... this isn't new information". I guess I was the last one to figure it out. Again, TY internet strangers for all the support. Much love to you all.”

I'm curious about the cultural heritage and ages of the parents. My extended family (of mixed European heritage) has a couple of females who came out as gay 30 plus years ago. There are many more who waited until all the elders (born pre-WWII) had passed away. Those who came out in the 1980's and 1990's were exiled from the family. To the point like they never existed. The ones who waited did so to make sure they weren't disowned and disinherited like the others. I'm not saying either way is right or wrong. Also, the mother being perceived as having no self-esteem to marry her husband, I see this in some of the more traditionally conservative branches of my extended family. The wife goes along with everything her husband wants. So, I'm curious if the OP's cultural background is similar to mine.

Story 1: _Man._ I get that parents want to make sure their kids don't get hurt but can we _please_ drop the whole "Oh I'll meet them with my shotgun" or "I'll kill anyone who asks out my kid without my permission" or whatever other variation there is? I'm so tired of it, I'm 20 and my mom _still_ jokes about "getting rid of" or interrogating anyone I end up dating and all it's teaching people is to not tell their parents about any relationships they have out of fear that their parents might do something to hurt the person at worst or utterly humiliate their kid at best. "Good then my kid won't date anyone without my permission" and they'll also most likely _resent_ you for not letting them figure things out while still safely at home rather than when they're on their own and don't have that safety net anymore.

Ironically he’s making sure she will be in MORE danger. He’s guaranteed she can’t talk to him about relationship stuff, so if bf starts pressuring her she isn’t going to feel comfortable about talking to the parents because no matter what the issue he’s gonna go berserk and probably up the parental controls. If he successfully scares off boys when she’s younger (let’s say she’s straight in this hypothetical situation), then she’s going to lose out on low pressure dating experiences when she’s 14 with less expectations sexually and her first relationship experiences will be when she’s older with more sexual expectations and she’ll have less experience than her partner

That's not shaming that's being a concerned parent. And the "I don't want to to be like those slutty girls" that was harsh I'm not gonna lie that was bad for him to say. Now where I having a problem with in this comment section is people are acting like if she was into guys and was hiding guys from her dad that would be bad for her as her dad more than likely knows how dirty and manipulative some guys can be ( him being a former fraternity member). And with him joking with his nephew vs being cautious about his daughter is Massively different as for his nephew he not concerned with him being taken advantage of or peer pressured into doing something that could damage him in the future. Or does she honestly think she's a princess, who can't be told what to do, shouldn't be held responsible for anything financial (even so much as not costing the family extra), and should have all of the house work done for her? Holy crap, you do not need that in your life, OP. Document document document, so you can prove which of you is actually raising and supporting your child and then kick her to the curb. Story 1: you know what? Although OP lashed out at mom too, but I feel it is deserved. Mom is letting all these misogynistic comments slide by. She might not be the one saying them, but she’s not protecting OP, a dependent mind you, from these abusive remarks. Parents are supposed to be the ones protecting their children. Children shouldn’t have to stand up for themselves in adult situations. Mom is absent so OP has to defend herself against dad who not only has authority over her but a power dynamic as well. This is not right. OP was right in her assessment. Mom doesn’t have self-respect and it’s leading to her contributing to OP’s abuse through emotional neglect on mom’s part. We can’t force you to leave toxic people, but when you bring children into the equation, YOU become part of the problem. So the anger is justified.

No gun, he comes in and talks interests and hobbies. Daughter suggests, instead of cleaning the gun, just have it mounted on wall in clear view. I respectfully disagree. Hear me out. I think it's ESH. Her father has a right and a responsibility to meet the people his daughter (or any of his children) are spending time with. And she immediately jumped the gun and got angry he made a common protective father joke. She is very very lucky she 1. Has parents that are still married 2. Has parents who deeply care about her and her well-being. Yes the father went about it in the wrong (hence ESH) but so did she. She immediately threatened to not introduce him to her father after he made a joke and then dragged her mom into it. She had some good points but she stated them so aggressively she guaranteed they would not hear her. AND she hurt her parents who just love her and want the best for her. The fact she has a loving father in the home who cares about who she's spending time with makes her a very privileged and lucky person. Studies show time and time again that children have a father who cares about them in the home do far better and live far happier lives than those who don't. She's just being a rebellious teenager bucking her parents rules. Plus we all know date r*pe is a serious thing that happens all too often and having a father "jokingly" threaten the date makes it far more likely he won't try anything. We all know r*pists are cowards so it just might save her. Remember she's still a child legally. And as such her father has a responsibility to protect her

Then in the next breath state they'd only marry a virgin. My thoughts have always been, then maybe instead of PHC you ought to marry her. A male gets patted on the back for sowing his oats. A female gets shamed and called a slet. In my book gender doesn't enter the equation. Indiscriminately engaging in intimacy makes you a person who doesn't care except for your own pleasure. People complain about people complaining about toxic masculinity basically calling them man haters and etc. I was raised to be a gentleman, my father was raised by a very religious mother and even though his misogyny related more to keeping to victorian gender roles and social appearances. I've never agreed with any of this type of BS. Toxic masculinity is just as ingrained in our society as systemic racism and the perps need to called out for their emotionally damaging remarks not that someone with her father's views would recognize any emotion/s other than anger and that only from another male. Nope the only thing he thinks about any outburst from a female HAS to be hormone driven. He would deny any such explaination for his outburst/s.

When she's ready for a relationship, I hope she finds someone who fully appreciates her quick wit, sense of justice, healthy self-confidence, and her ability to hold herself accountable and follow through with an apology when she feels she's in the wrong. She accepts criticism from others. She knows herself well enough to acknowledge elements that will result in people--including her family--rejecting her. She's got moxie. Story 2: NTA Buffets will definitely charge you extra for wasted food to discourage behavior like Op’s wife’s because it loses them money, also, every buffet I have ever been to charges you for To-go plates (because seriously if they were free them every one would take one) so either way op would have had to pay for the wasted food. The person that suggested bringing in a Tupperware container obviously has no Idea how a buffet works, because that is a great way to get banned

story one: tbh I had no idea that mom was even THERE until you unloaded on her. and from your later comments, mom has always been a doormat. she needed to get slapped out of that complacency. from the sound of it, she has NEVER had your back and needs consequences for that. because if your comment was in any way inaccurate, she would have been there for you. but she wasn't. What country charges you for food you don't eat at an "all you can eat?" That's insane. Do they walk around with a scale when you are done and weigh your plate to see how much extra they should charge? I 100% never heard of this.

We HAVE to retire ‘traditional’ as a synonym for misogynist, racist or just bloody toxic. If calling people what they are upsets them, good. Traditional and old fashioned just shield people from the consequences of their actions because they’re not held accountable.

The buffet where I am. Doesn’t charge extra. They offer doggie bags. So you can bring what you can’t finish home. So I thought it was odd, but I guess it’s different in other areas. Story 1: My dad is the same way. It use to make me so angry, but I wasn’t allowed to say anything to "keep peace" according to my mom who was just as bad. He still has those views to this day. It still irritates me.

OPs response to her dad's nasty comment (a la coming out) is right up there with the time I heard a story about someone accidentally coming out after an older family member ranted about how "the gays" are "going to hell" and the OP got up and started to leave and when asked where they were going, OP automatically responded with "Hell apparently". Some of the greats right there!

From some of the things said in story 2, i can't help but wonder if the wife grew up in an environment where food was an issue. I know personally i struggled as an adult with portion control because my whole childhood involved basically taking everything you could get when it was on offer...because it was not guaranteed to be there next time you are hungry. And even when i know now that food is not going to just dissappear i find myself sometimes just loading my plate out of habbit. Something you do for decades can be hard to break even when you are actively trying to stop.

Story 2: I think it's an Asian buffet. Where I'm from, buffets will charge you for your leftovers. As a child, I learned very quickly to gauge my meals thanks to that 😂 My father would help me finish food. It's also thanks to him, I learned how to enjoy eating buffets to the fullest. Also NTA for Story 2. But it's not going to fix her bad habit. Don't pay for her in meals if she's that entitled. There's no partnership here.

First Story: I hope the father realizes how disturbing, disgusting and arrogant he is. He needs a serious lesson in life and how to be a real husband, father and man. Second Story: The wife wastes food, doesn't work or do chores. She literally serves no purpose in this world. How do people like that live with themselves?!

Car shopping is fun! So many salesman try to get me to buy the car before I leave, but I like to visit car dealerships and after a few days decide which one I want to buy from. It was especially fun when I had the unexpected pleasure of renting a sports car. When I drove into the dealership all the salesmen booked it for me, but unfortunately for them I was looking for the cheapest car on the lot for even cheaper.

Unless it is clearly printed on the menus that you will get charged for “wasted food” the restaurant is committing fraud and it is illegal. It has to be easily visible too, meaning you can’t put it in small print. Has to be roughly the same font size as everything else that is listed. Unless they have time limits/slots you have to follow you can arrive the moment they open and only leave when it’s closing time. If they decide to kick you out you’re not legally required to pay. Yes, a restaurant can refuse you service for any reason, but unless that reason is a criminal action they forfeit their rights to payment. It’s false advertising and depending where you are from such as in the UK it is highly illegal.

I have a pretty small stomach, some days its bigger than others and usually I don't know till its too late but even with that I've never heard that rule at a buffet. Every one I've been to only charges when you walk in like $15 depending on the place and I've never heard of people being charged for waste but maybe I'm better at portioning than I think and haven't wasted enough to have that problem (my family usually does get one plate of something or a few small things and then if you finish it you can get another so maybe the rule helps us not have to pay)

Restaurant story: The wife needs to pay for her own food. Simple. Watch the wastefulness magically disappear. She is earning more than him, but she pays for nothing at all. Everything is being paid for by him. Of course she feels like wasting money. He is a moron to go along with it. Why would she care that HE had to pay extra for HER food wasting habits? Doesn't hurt her, does it? Shedding a few tears so he feels guilty isn't that hard.
