I originally was on his side, just by the “drinking whiskey in the office at 10:30 am” thing, because I was thinking home office, working night shift, and so, yeah, of COURSE you’re allowed to do that, he would be at work when most people would be drinking. However… it’s at work, during work hours, and so of course it’s a problem. Heck, I’d have even given him a pass for having a decanter of whiskey in his work office, depending on the situation (ie work parties are always at work, he’s got it there for the parties specifically, or I’d even give a pass if he often works long late nights of overtime, and has a glass or two after hours), or even a “whiskey” decanter for decoration, to feel like you’re living the thing you dream about, but in reality only have a decanter full of brown-dyed water. Having good whiskey at work just to sip on throughout the day though… never a good idea. I know there’s a ton of stigmas around certain alcohol and alcohol-related items (like a flask), but most, if not all, whiskey drinkers I’ve met would only drink whiskey at work on-the-clock if that was specifically their job, never outside of that.

The damage to the medical tools makes me LIVID! As a lab tech, we rely on calling those engineers at a moment’s notice when an analyzer goes down. This has happened in the middle of a surgery that required taking specimens and running them immediately. As the engineer was an hour away, due to traffic, the patient was closed and airlifted to the large main hospital for the system. These engineers are becoming rare and they HAVE to have their tools, that yes, must be the precise tools provided by the maker of the instruments (we are talking $250k to $1m analyzers, depending on the type and size.) They are essential to the function of the hospital, as technicians produce most of the diagnoses via testing and analysis, and are used to monitor progress in surgery and diagnose patients in the ED asap. Having an engineer unavailable due to damaged tools, even for the days it takes to ship the items, results in lives being at risk. That entitled man-child could be responsible for lives and the engineer would never be told. Who knows what happened as a result of his actions.

My niece had just turned 10 when she found her father dead in a ski resort bathroom. She designed his headstone for the grave. One side was cut was and the other.side was raw, organic stone. It simply gave his name and dates, nothing like "loving husband and father". There were etchings, like emojis, showing his favorite sports: A man running, a man on a bicycle and a man on skis. It was the oddest stone I've ever seen. Expecting a grieving child design it was odd. His daughter was the only person he loved and I think she was the only person who loved him. He'd left his first wife and 4 little kids long before he met my sister. None of those 4 young adults seemed upset by his passing as they'd had little contact after the turned 18. I'm told they all were amused by the headstone.

IF a spouse is doing anything with a group of friends/collogues/"brothers/sisters"/ whatever and the spouse is either embarrassed, ashamed, secretive, etc., about what is done/said while together then that should throw up red flag the size of a naval carrier ship for both the spouse and the participant. The spouse for obvious reasons, the participant because things that are immoral, illegal, etc., can be propagandized, manipulated, misinformed/mislead and indoctrinated in small increments over time so it seems they are correct in their thinking that the whatever isn't immoral and/or isn't illegal, or if it is, it shouldn't be and therefore should not be followed or recognized as such. As a part of the group misleading, they can/will offer up such an awe-inspiring testimony/lecture/ as to why the something isn't wrong. Just NO!!!! I knew someone who is a mason. They have a lot of crap they "can't" tell anyone "Without severe consequences" or death Depending on how you interpret something sharp and pointy being pressed into your chest while blindfolded and pledging or whatever to not divulge what they will learn!!?????? JUST crazy, and then they tell you anything they do or know is not dangerous, wrong or evil. IF that is the case, again why keep from spouses, and why men exclusive???? From what I've researched and heard basically if you're a mason you're pretty well off, and they have a network that goes around the world. IF someone is before a judge and a mason wants a certain outcome it is practically guaranteed the outcome. I think a lot of the people are kind of targeted when they show certain initiatives and certain courses while in school. They are loyal to the wives though if one of them does go ape shit on the wife, the wedding vows and/or their mason vows, as they believe a vow is sacred and must be kept. I had a great aunt who recently pass who was the best ever who had married someone who was or became a mason and did that. The men/organization helped her get herself and children back on her feet and helped her with college she became an RN. Masons do really great things, but that weigh out if they do bad things?? Because they are so secretive it makes one question if they do bad stuff...like the judge thing, that could be a good thing if the person really is guilty, but what if it's the other way around? Nowadays evidence can be manufactured so easily and realistically!!! A very scary thought. There are people who are definitely set up. Are they masons? The dog story is literally the reason I have gone NC with my father. He had a dog he picked up off the street for five years and in that time he never took her to a vet or bought her a bed, and would frequently leave her with other relatives to care for when he didn’t feel like it. When I moved to his state and briefly lived with him, the dog was MY responsibility. I cared for her, got her medicinal needs taken care of, and got her registered. I took her with me when I moved out and he was fine with it. Until a few months later, he said he missed her and wanted her to visit him for a few days. I (being a bleeding heart dummy) said sure, and he took her and never brought her back. After a week had past ( and several ignored calls and texts-_-) he sent me a message that basically said “Hey yeah…I don’t think you living on the 4th floor is good for the dog safety cuz stairs and she has short legs so….yeah.” 😒 Ignoring the fact that the elevator exists….the excuse was piss poor.

Some abandoned on streets some rescued from abusive owners an some just given up as owner couldn't deal with training. Just because your cousin got the dog out of rescue does not mean she should be entitled to a dog she didn't pay towards it's care/needs ect. If Delilah meant so much to her why didn't she already have a place that accepts a dog?? That's like flying minus the plane. Any would be owner knows you get in supplies an have a safe property to house your new dog. Not dump it on her cousin for months without seeing said dog or making time to bond with it or covering it's costs ect. As my own sister did exactly the same to me. Got a puppy from a rescue days after our dad died an I was overdue with my then 2nd child an after my elder sis who lived at my dad's house refused to have said puppy there as my dad's dog lived there an as a elderly grumpy german shepherd she would have ripped said pup apart. So obviously it wasn't able to stay there. So my younger sis arrived at 9:30pm at my house with said puppy. I told her take it back to rescue an she refused saying she needed something extra to love as SHE had just lost HER dad. Who was obviously my dad too. So I told her she expects me a 9 month pregnant women to take on her pup when my baby was due April 30th an my dad died may 5th. An clean up after it while I still worked an ran the house an took my then 5yr old daughter to school daily. My hubby would collect her some days due to me working an him being postman who finished lunch time as I finished at 6pm. My sis broke down balling so I caved in an said I would keep it till my son was born only then she had find it a new home. I'm not saying he wasn't a great loving puppy my daughter adored next morning but we already had our own dog plus one rescue an a moggy. So quite a full house. A week after my son was born by c-section on June 9th my sis still hadn't rehomed said pup. So I called family meeting an my elder brother took on said pup. This one thing changed my relationship with my sister for ever. We don't speak or see each other after this as I felt so angry for her reckless choice an her pure self centered behaviour over my dad's passing. The pup muttley stayed with my bro till the end of it's life at age 12yrs old. The point being. DONT TAKE ON ANY PET YOU CANT FULLY CARE FOR OR PAY FOR ITS NEEDS. As over a dogs lifetime it will cost thousands in food an shots an treatment if needed it's not a commitment to be taken so lightly as cousin did. An it's NOT an object. It has feelings too an would be as heartbroken as OP if cousin took her away. Keep the dog OP. She needs you as much as you need her now. Good luck on keeping her

Not the same level as negligent and uncaring as someone giving birth and the partner not being their because of a hobby, my father once made me wait ten minutes so his show could finish before he took me to the hospital because I got a lot of bleach in my eyes. I was terrified, could not drive and was afraid I would go blind.

"You're the third child, so you're expendable?" This is not teasing. This is domestic abuse. From an idiot who, at 23, injured himself doing a stunt that most 8 year olds are too mature to try. And parents are supporting this!? I wonder how OP can get away from these abusers.

Story about the husband who went to watch football n didn't leave when wife went into labor. OP...NTA...your husband is neglectful and an ahole!!! Red Flags...it is his baby!!! I think you should talk to a counselor and maybe reconsider this relationship. He doesn't value you or your child, it is his needs n wants that only seem to matter! No okay.

*A long episode with surprisingly few Ahole posters.* Story 1 (Insulting Gravestone): NTA - Not your business to begin with. Story 2 (Neglectful Hospital): NTA - Isn't that the consequences of your actions I see there? Husband prioritised "the game" over wife's health and safety. That is a huge-Ahole move. Trying to lie to the family/gaslight away the situation is absolutely not OK either. MIL is right for tearing him a new one. OP didn't make him "seem" like a bad and neglectful father: He was one, and he caused that rift by being one. - Not the OP for failing to sit still when he extensively lied about his actions. Seems he got his comeuppance. Story 3 (Drinking on the job): YTA - OP's conduct is likely against company policy and depending on which state OP works in, potentially also against the law. It is outright considered unprofessional in most contexts to offer people alcohol upon visiting your work office, and OP took no regard for the image his behaviour would sent to the clients he spoke with. I am not going to outright say OP did anything A-holish beyond the bad reply to the e-mail which I am not going to judge him for, but his lack of due regard for the law, company policy and professionalism to his clients in his decision (irrespective of whether the Whiskey was okay in that context, which I am not even going to touch on) makes OP the Ahole. Story 4 (Loud naughties): NAH - I believe OP could've potentially made the point clear in a better way in such a one-off incident, but this got the point accross about the noise it was making. Don't make a habbit of this. I can understand the neighbours' kneejerk response to misinterpret this as harassment. For anyone who doesn't understand: They had been having naughties for an hour, and that was followed up with applause. That can very much be taken as someone creepily listening in on their naughties and harassing them over it. A simple explanation of what happened and talking it out with all relevant parties present. *(Including Management!)* Story 5 (Religious E-mails): ESH - I won't comment on whether it was good or bad for the employee of the other office to include religious texts. I don't have the needed information to determine if his actions fell within religiou accommodation and expression that has to be tolerated, or towards unprofessional and inappropriate behaviour which it definitely had the potential to be. The boss is the Ahole for not taking a complaint higher up immediately about the religious e-mails when he said he agreed it wasn't ok. (I suspect that wasn't his opinion at all based on the later interaction.) The boss is also the Ahole (and incredibly unprofessional) for going on a rant against OP about "Harassing the employee" for his Christian Beliefs when that is both obviously untrue, and when he could've known that if he had actually appropriately looked into the situation. The statement OP made wasn't even religious in nature: Just in another language. What the boss did here was make discriminatory assumptions and brought OP into his office on those false and discriminatory assumptions the moment he saw a language he didn't recognise. OP is also an Ahole for needlessly inflaming the situation by signing off the letter that was otherwise professional in a way that was clearly intended to be passive-aggressive. The Employee for the other office is the Ahole for sending a harassing text to OP. The company is the Ahole for over-reacting to the situation in a way that sound like they might extent to the point of a Title VII violation. Some amount of religious expression even in workplace e-mails is generally considered protected under Title VII, as the strict enforcement of all non-essential content in these e-mails needed to not make this discrimination under Title VII is usually not practically possible, desireable or done in practice. Story 6 (Theft for Art): NTA - You are *never* the Ahole for asking someone to pay the price for expensive property they *knowingly* stole and damaged. The complete lack of respect of the BF on GF's property is insane. Story 7 (Pregnancy Test Troll): NTA - I would absolutely do the exact same thing in kicking out the sister. Trying to ruin someones relationship is not a prank or joke, and that would've crossed a boundary where I wouldn't be able to feel even remotely safe in my own home anymore with them present. If this was naivity and recklessness rather then malice: Then she's about to learn that has consequences. I see no reason to assume Adam was in on this by the way: I would find it very improbable he wouldn't have defended his sister being kicked out if he was, and his serious response is entirely reasonable when finding out your partner may have been trying to hide a pregnancy for you. The fact sister appealed to him is not surprising either way because Adam is the BF of the house-owner, and as such the one that arguably has the most influence over the situation. I would seriously reconsider a relationship with this Adam and his family though based on how they more broadly seem to treat little sisters' behaviour as okay and just the actings of a naive kid. Story 8 (The Truth about family): NTA - Obviously not the Ahole for actually explaining to your own darn child what happened here. You do *not* and should not have to offer yourself and your reputation to protect people who maliciously lied about you: especially not with the hurt that caused Kara, and with the way that would've impacted her view of you now when she'd actually benefit a lot from having a present father. Every single person who accommodated the lie that kept a father from their child are seeing the consequences of their own actions when that now-adult child finds out the truth. That is *not* the OP's fault. What the heck is wrong with that family. Absolutely delusional. I am as heartbroken for Kara's situation, as many of the commenters are. I absolutely respect the way she's dealing with her family's terrible actions. Story 9 (Cooking): NTA - I am not sure I agree with the method here, but that's besides the point. This is a parental alianation situation. That needs to be addressed. The father being scared of the mom trying to change the custody agreements if he even dares to bring up a problem says more then enough. Document everything. - After listening to the update: Yep, Parental alianation. I agree full heartedly that they should see the call logs, and take them to mother to court if that is needed and possible. Story 10 (Ex stealing money): NTA - Ex in a co-ordinated fashion defrauded OP of a lot of money during the process of leaving her. Ex is just coming back to mooch off OP now. Not only that, but the reason he has no claim to the business is because of how OP and him devided the business during divorce. Him not profiting from the business is a situation of his own making that the OP is *not* responsible for, especially not after he defrauded OP of a lot of money. Of course shutting that down doesn't make OP the Ahole. The friend is either incredibly short-sighted or this is sketchy. - After listening to the update: I expect sketch, but not *that* sketch from the friend, jesus christ. They're getting married? They deserve each-other. Story 11 (Dogsnatching): NTA - That cousin was really, really, *really* irresponsible with the dog, and really darn stupid too in thinking that the new place would allow her dog to stay. I wouldn't trust a houseplant with someone like that, let alone a dog. OP *stole* the dog. That is illegal and that may have consequences, but it sounds like this was in the best interest of the safety and health of the dog. I will not blame OP for taking action in the best interest of the dog in this manner in the face of a lack of a good alternative. - After listening to the update: Even more NTA for somehow and improbably resolving this without theft. Better outcome then could've been expected. Story 12 (Broken Legs, Broken Health): NTA - Jesus Christ the double standard of the parents, and holy moly the mistreatment from the brother. This is atrocious behaviour from them. You're not the Ahole for refusing to be a doormat. Not only that: OP is the one with the worse health/mobility issues. - After listening to the update: Holy moly that brother is a gaslighter, and incredibly abusive. I hope OP cuts them out the moment they have the chance. Story 13 (Step-Sister's Education Financing): NTA - It is OP's choice of how to spend their money. - The advice to spend the money in a more wise way/order from the comments that OP took is wonderful. Story 14 (Oh my lawd it's a snail): NTA - The moment the collegue agreed OP can keep him, they became not the Ahole for refusing to giving the snail back, even with the kneejerk reaction. The snail being improperly cared for gives even more reason that the OP isn't the Ahole. - After listening to the update: :D So nice when AITA stories end up with all parties being kind and understanding for a change.

Parental alienation can seriously backfire. When my beloved stepson was 7, his mother forced him to call his stepfather "Dad" and call his real dad by his first name. He was so stressed by trying to remember what to call them at what house, that he developed a nervous tic that he has to this day (he's in his mid-forties now.) He's gone VLC with his mother and his brother by her has gone completely NC with her. Neither one will agree to have children. She whined and said she was jealous of me having grandchildren since she doesn't, and her comment made cold chills go down my backbone just at the thought of her being around children. She paid herself back for the evil she's done

I was thinking this too. If the step-father died less than 28 days after the murder then half of everything should have gone to the wife's children via regular interstate laws anyway. If step-father had adopted his wife's child the child should have gotten everything.

Apartment advice: rentals allowing/disallowing pets does not change with how well-behaved your pet is - it's about insurance on the property. Because pets are an additional risk to the property, the owner will have to pay higher insurance rates if they don't certify that there will be no animals living in the property. They might be persuaded to allow fish or hamsters, but not free-range pets like cats or dogs. The same is true for weight limits on dogs. Some insurance policies cost more if there are larger dog breeds in the apartment. So if the limit is 40pounds and your dog weighs 41, the property owner will probably turn a blind eye, but if the limit is 40 and your dog weighs 50, it's very unlikely.
