Sorry, doesn’t work that way. No matter how much of an asshole someone is, they still have a right to own a gun. The only thing that revokes these privileges is committing a crime. Every American has a right to own weapons of war. You may think this was done for “self-defense“ or “hunting” but the truth is, the second amendment was created to ensure that the citizens of the US always have the ability to overthrow the government should it become tyrannical and oppressive. This is also the real reason why the anti-gun movement even exists. The American citizen being able to own guns makes the government very nervous. They would prefer absolute power, but they will never get it. Any attempt to seize guns will be met with immediate Civil War. I’m not saying anything about what I would do, I am simply saying that I know enough people who are guns that they are absolutely willing to die to defend that right.

His daughter isn't a person to him. She's an object her father can brag about--like a big house or a fancy car--used to show off her family's status, get accolades, and, thereby, pump up her narcissistic father's ego. Her mental health doesn't matter, especially not now that she is no longer embarrassing her parents by attracting negative attention and revealing his neglect (the parents knew their daughter had severe anxiety, but did nothing to help her until after she completely shut down socially, stopped eating, and the school forced the issue). Since she's just an object, when she "broke down," and he took her in to be "repaired," he expected her to be fixed. In his mind, he wouldn't keep paying a mechanic who couldn't get his car to stop making a weird sound, so why should he keep paying for therapy that hasn't repaired the one metric he cares about? Plus, playing games with the purse strings proves just how powerful he is. When his wife went ahead and paid anyway, the illusion of his power wavered. He took control back by claiming ownership of his wife's money as "our" money. His edit substantiates this. He realized he wasn't getting everyone on his side as he expected. He didn't address the harm he'd tried to cause his daughter, but tried to redeem himself and offer "sympathy" to the *online* people he'd upset. This is how my in-laws are, which is why I recognize it. 😖 We're no contact with them.

I dont think therapy magically sprinkles something on your kid and makes them suddenly have good grades. Truly I would go to the ADA place and see if your kid could get help well infront know if there is a place in elementary through HS but there is one in uni. I was given extra 15 for my quizzes, tests, mid term and finals also did it in a room alone. It made a world of difference because I could concentrate better and the extra time made sure I didnt stress about time. And gave me enough time for what I was doing.. get a tutor if she needs help with grades. Her therapy is helping her.

The first story in this AITA makes me so angry. When I was 16, I attempted suicide.. and while in hospital, my father literally threatened me and told me to tell everyone I was absolutely fine and it was just a stunt to get attention because he didn't want to pay the high medical bills. I was sent to mandatory therapy until he was informed by my therapist that my mental health was his fault from the abuse I was suffering, and then I was pulled from that too. I'm in my mid-thirties now, and I still hold resentment towards my father for this. I needed genuine help, and he showed me that my life did not matter to him. That day in the hospital was the day I stopped loving my father. Full stop. I'm still dealing with the mental health problems I suffered from that period of time, but I am much better off now. I feel so badly for the girl in this story, and I hope he reversed his decision and wisened up fast enough that his daughter won't also turn against him. He is 100% the AH.

Yeah, I don't disagree with a harsh punishment for this one, but I probably would have gotten her a very basic phone for safety. As well as giving her opportunities to earn those things back. Including volunteering at a food bank, homeless shelter and possibly a senior home. Maybe even a community cleanup. A job would be great too, but she should experience helping others and be exposed to the real needs of this world. Maybe do a small allowance for extra chores if she doesn't get a job. Sitting down with her and creating a budget that includes her paying for something like the premium on a new phone, a portion of gas or car insurance or something that's a luxury like expensive beauty products, etc.. So she learns the cost of having things and how quickly money can disappear.

The phone thing is relatable for me. My first phone didn't break, but my Dad took it away, despite him and my Stepmom being the ones who got it for me in the first place, because he thought I was too immature to have one, and at first told me I wasn't getting another one. It took my Mom stepping in and reminding my Dad that I would need a phone to at least be able to contact them or any emergency services if I needed to. My Mom has been more of an advocate for my autistic ass than my own Father, and yet he sometimes wonders why I'm closer to her. Gee idk Dad, maybe because every time I've tried to talk to you about certain topics, you question why I'm talking to you about said topic. 😂

No one ever had to explain gay relationships to me, I grew up seeing two very successful, supportive gay relationships and saw it as a normal relationship and no one clutched their pearls that I was “exposed” to a non heteronormative relationship. It actually helped me accept that I was pansexual and no one made a big deal when they found out. I think if more kids get exposed to healthy relationships whether they’re gay or straight, they’ll be more accepting of all relationships when they grow up.
@ghostofthefallenvalkyrie3320

Yeah like what is there to explain. Although I have to admit I think I was a bit homophobic growing up (not because my parents or religious beliefs or anything) because I only knew vaguely what gay and lesbian meant and since I didn't think about it much and it didn't interest me at all, I only knew about the stereotypes and I really didn't like them (I still don't like them and I hate the terms gay and lesbian, especially in my native language because it has been associated with so much negative stuff and stereotypes). However that was until last year when I started being interested in the community (through gay ships) and half a year later I realized I was bi. I think my unconscious already knew, just not myself cuz I've only had crushes on boys (but I do have a fictional anime waifu crush) and I had never even considered me liking girls. Funny enough I think I even like girls more.

Yes we need to focus on teaching people what healthy, respectful, supportive relationships require and how to address disagreements (all normal relationships will have them) in a productive manner including how to acknowledge when you make a mistake. This is regardless of the gender of the people involved and should also apply to your non-romantic relationships as well. This is why your SO’s relationship with their family can often be enlightening.

My foster brother lived with my aunts first. Mom heard him call something "gay" as an insult. She told him it was offensive and disrespectful to say that given my aunts raised him for years. I stopped. "what's gay?" "Two women or two men that love each other. Like your aunt Sally and Jane or your uncle David" "Oh." Ran off to play. I had never thought anything was wrong with them or even abnormal. These were people that we knew and loved. I didn't know a ton of people like them and some of their friends, but I just thought some couples were man-woman, some were woman-woman and some man-man. Yeah, I'm not happy with how Markee said that either, although I don't think he meant it the way it sounded. I hope not. Those "period tracking apps" aren't perfect. Every person that has periods has had at least a few "accidents", no matter how well they prepare for it. I wish you hadn't phrased it that way, Markee. I guarantee that every person who has periods is not just going to "forget" about it, because we all know how humiliating it is to get a huge period stain on our pants unexpectedly and in public and not being able to do anything about it. OP is TA, 100%. Periods are not always predictable, and so many men don't understand that. Accidents happen. A lot of women have irregular cycles, and even regular cycles can start unexpectedly. Our reproductive organs aren't computer-controlled, lol. OP sounds like he was more concerned about her ruining the expensive dress that about her embarrassment. How would HE feel if he had Crohn's disease and pooped his pants while they were out, and his GF got mad at him for having to tell everyone he was "sick" so they could leave early? What an ass.

Regarding the picky eater- my immediate thought was Autism, especially since he will only eat one thing. I also have Autism and a very limited diet because of how taste is affected for me. Strong flavours and certain spices are a no for me. I can understand that making two meals is tiring, but that's my price I pay. Granted, the situation isn't quite the same, since I'm the food maker in this house, and I'm the one who has to make two meals or cook something else when I dislike what was bought for me to eat. While the OP is not the arse for making the food to begin with, she is a bit of one for being upset he threw it away and blaming him for not liking it. She also brought it as a surprise without knowledge of whether or not he was hungry, I feel. (Unless I misunderstood something). My husband and I have an agreement, if I don't like a food, he'll eat it (unless it has something he expressly doesn't like as well). If she was going to be upset he threw it away, she should have asked him to try it and said that if he didn't like it, she'd eat it. But that's just my opinion to limit food waste. I don't know if I'd call anyone in this the arse.

Deciding who you invite to your house is not bullying. Bullying is an _action_ , done with intent to cause inconvenience + discomfort to a person, not a term for passively being the target of someone's inferiority complex or thwarted sense of inaccurate entitlement. You don't owe anyone social benefit from you. Not inviting is not victimising.

[Addendum] To clarify, deliberate + malicious ostracism _can_ be one of the tools in the conscious bully's arsenal, but a choice not to associate with an individual is not _in itself_ an act of victimisation. It's just practicing basic personal discrimination, which is a morally neutral act.

We found out the hard way that while taking away a phone works as a punishment, it is one of the things that will make you feel like shit if something happens. We did and two weeks later my 16 year old went missing, some fucking 27 year old we believe was about to hand her off over the Mexican border though we can't prove it but he didn't touch her and took her from north eastern Oregon and then went through 4 states meandering back and forth state to state to take her down to Santa Cruz California. Tijuana was only 7 hours away... she was gone for 3 entire days with no word, we heard nothing and knew nothing and I searched and talked to every single person I could think of but she only trusted and spent time with less than a handful of kids. Thank goodness my child got this guy to let her use her phone to "chat with a friend of hers" she reached out and gave a code word for danger and we turned it into the sheriff who contacted the fbi and she was found and safe and free was temporarily in custody within 5 hours after the initial message she sent. Please don't use phones as a punishment, downgrade to call and text only, no net like flip phone style but don't cut off all communication. You never know when your child might need you and you will regret every second you don't know what's happening to them. Please listen and don't go through what we did. My kid in her words "just wanted to see somewhere else than here" we have raised her in the country in kinda middle of the nowhere small town. I told her while I do understand there were a million different ways she could have taken a trip that I would have been ok with and willing to help hey with without her leaving with some dude she just met who lied and she was told he was much closer to her age and told her a fake name and the list goes on. I'm just thankful she's home, safe and unarmed and learned from her actions but I will never again take away the only way she has to get ahold of us and I'll deff downgrade to a flip phone with 2 programmed numbers in it only but I'll never leave her without a lifeline esp now that she's getting to the point where she's is going to start working soon and is set to graduate high school 2 years early as she is passing classes very quickly and I'm so proud of her.

The story about the picky eater husband: I hate those kind of people. I'm a very picky eater myself as in - I can't eat onions. Apparently I ate them raw as a child and whenever I noe bite onto even a small piece I start puking. It's not an allergy, just a strong reaction to the taste and texture. I still use them for cooking, either as powder, cut so small they dissolve or so big I can take them out. -I hate many vegetables in their raw forms. Salad leaves only with dressing and only if they are crisp, bell peppers cooked are OK, but I prefer the sweeter red or yellow ones, tomatoes can be used for sauces or such but I hate them raw. The list goes on. I have a hard time putting into words when something doesn't taste or feel right (though I'm not autistic as far as I know and it doesn't cause any real issues aside from not liking it) But my mom always made sure to teach us how important it is to appreciate food and the work someone put into cooking it. If we didn't like something we didn't have to finish it but we always had to at least give it a try. I'm actually really happy my mom did this cause there are so many things I would never have tried otherwise. Like, parents of friends from my first grade of school were Turkish immigrants and their mom made really great stuff like filled wine leafs. Even if you are picky, it's an act of respect to at least try food you are given and then be honest. However, I have to say, the wife seems to have provoked this. She knows about his eating habits since long before, she should have talked to him and just given him the choice between trying something new next time or cooking for himself.

The clown makeup story. Since I'm already a weirdo, I would have gotten up, gotten the face paint and started also painting my face as a clown. Then, tell my partner "come on, we'll be late, at least now we'll be matching". Pretty sure the partner would not want to go, if she doesn't, I could call her on her bluff and tell her that the comparison was over the top and we could talk about this like adults next time. For the period stain story, some people can't use trackers because they have irregular circles. And it feels horrible having a stain in public, especially when someone you're close to gets mad at you for something your body does naturally without you being able to control it. She had to apologize for something that happens naturally while he didn't feel the need to apologize for being a massive a-hole, and only apologized because people called him out massively. She needs to find a guy better than op, if he reacts like this about periods, I can't imagine other stuff or if they have a daughter in the future.

We work with him to try to add to that list but we dont force it and were sure to always have all of those items on hand and suppliment with vitamins. Food aversions can be REALLY hard. I only have one, yogurt. I can not physically choke down yogurt. The texture is an abomonation to my pallet. Id rather, and probably have better luck, eating grass from the yard. Have your child’s D3 levels specifically checked. We found out that myself and both my daughters began struggling with feeding depressed and lack of energy and feeling unwell. Thankfully I first had their bloods checked showing the deficiency but in there were others involved who pushed therapy which pushed a medication that nearly did take my child’s life. Please don’t just go to depression as a be all end all. Have their bloods drawn and if D3 is low or non existent guess what, your child is no longer producing serotonin and is completely trying to get through life solely on melatonin

In the story at the 1 hour mark, the mother keeps talking about how the father doing anything to take care of HIS OWN BABY is 'helping'. I don't get it. If a man doesn't want to do his fair share of child care, he shouldn't have had a child. ffs

Markee.. people are ALLOWED to be picky. Maybe that’s literally the only food that actually is pleasing for them to eat or maybe the only thing that tastes good. Your fine to find literally anything as a deal breaker. However, thats kinda hypocritical because thats being picky in itself lmao. Picky can apply to things other than food. Im literally only ever picky with food personally because i can immediately tell if i wont like something by looking at it i dont need to taste to know. My great grandma always tried to force feed me stuff i had ‘tried’ repeatedly hoping my tastes would change and id like it. It was her only bad quality.

I had my tastebuds go wonky for about 6 months in 2018. Some of my favorite things tasted off. Like all the manufacturers changed the recipes. Only thing good that came out of that was losing over 25 pounds. But that was temporary. (Wish I could have bottled it 😉)

Nah it's totally valid to not wanna date a picky eater. I love exploring new foods, and would want my partner to do the same with me. It's no different than wanting someone who likes outdoor activities.

Markee, I'm a person who gets a period with fairly normal health and I'm going to tell you why the mistake angle isn't a good one. Mine normally happen on about the 12th of every month... give or take 1 week. Meaning it could happen anywhere between the 5th and the 19th. Many things can factor in like what I ate between periods, my mental health (stress makes it later), medicine (varies between what I have taken including my normal medication), other women I have frequent contact with (something happens hormonally where women can sync up), illness (can make it later, has sometimes made it happen sooner), exercise... and I think you get the point. At any point I have a 2 week time span when I don't know when mother nature decides to paint the town red. Then there is timing. Normally, mine starts between 12 PM and 3 PM... buuuuut other times it happens over night. So during a time where my period is (1) a week ahead and (2) heavier, my sheets will be dyed red by my uterus. I only recently got a period cup. That I can preemptively insert and safely wear over night. I can't do pads because I don't like sitting in wet and, honestly, to me it feels like wearing a sticky diaper that slides and doesn't work. I shouldn't do a tampon. (1) It's a waste of money for me to use and replace tampons I don't need to use, (2) putting in a tampon when there is no extra moisture is uncomfortable to painful for me, and (3) if I keep it in over night then I run the risk of toxic shock syndrome. Do I use the cup preemptively? Yes but a good quality one that'll last me up to 10 years will cost a person $30-$60 (I think mine was $35). Not everyone can use it and it's a heck of an investment for someone who might not be able to use it. Could the girlfriend preemptively use a pad? Sure. But what's the odds that she thought she had a week and some outside factor made it come a week early? What if her periods are irregular and this goes to the point of a reproductive health thing?

1:07:32 I use a period tracker and I wear pads when I feel cramps before my actual periods. You are not guaranteed to know when it's gonna happen, just a couple months ago I got all dressed up and went out with my boyfriend and it wasn't until we were at the restaurant we went for breakfast that I realized I was on my period. My skirt was white and light purple, which is why I decided it would be good to wear shorts underneath so if I bled through it would stain the skirt. We ended up cutting our plans short, only going to breakfast (Which we left early) and the game shop so he could get his trading cards (I stayed in the car). I was the one who said I was okay going to the shop after, even though it was a half hour drive and another half hour back home, plus waiting for him in the car. When we were at breakfast, I was in a lot of pain, asked my boyfriend if we could go and he said yes. I also asked if I could wait in the car while he waited for the server to get a to go box and pay, he also said yes. He was very understanding and I appreciated it

College fund one: OP is NTA for giving their son his college fund. The daughter decided to spend her college fund on a degree that didn’t pan out how she expected, which sucks but it happens. Son decided to hold off on college and keep his amount accruing interest, dividends, and what not. The money for both was set aside to be used as they wanted and it just so happens that the son’s choice was the better investment plan, although that doesn’t always work out for people. The money is rightfully the son’s and daughter has 0 claim to it. I hate that Reddit always sides with the woman in those situations because “she NEEEEEEEEDS it.” ETA: he never said he doesn’t want it, he said he doesn’t need it. And how would they have spent more time on the daughter’s gun when she went “I’m gonna get a degree in a field that doesn’t pay well.”

I’ve suffered from chronic migraines since I was 12 and have watched constantly for different remedies to help ease them, and while hydration can definitely help, this is the first time I’ve ever heard of someone saying that a cold drink helped when medication did not. That said, IF I relied on cold drinks for my migraines, when the OP first mentioned splitting the cost of the set, I would have been on board to make sure I had what I needed. OP could have just shrugged and not gotten one if roommate didn’t want to split the cost, then where would migraine moocher have been? She can go pay for her own now, if she’s telling the truth, because she was an ahole and abused her roommates good will.

Louise, I've been getting migraines since I was in my teens, I'm 59. Just an FYI if you're looking for something that helps prevent them all together. My Dr prescribed Topiramate, it's a drug that was meant to treat seasures but it was discovered that it also was really good for preventing migraines. I've been on it a few years now and I don't get migraines anymore. Something you might want to ask your Dr about. The only notable side effect for me was weight loss. Just thought I'd share. 😀

S1: YTA. Parents take grades way too seriously. It won't mean anything if the daughter's depression gets worse and...they don't have a child anymore. S2: NTA. I'm scatterbrained and forget to check my pockets before doing laundry. I've had to remind myself to always check, but never blamed someone else for my mistakes. S3: NTA. Sucks that redditors ignored the fact that the gf only wore clown makeup out of spite. OP shouldn't have made them late, but hey, we all know it takes some women a lot of time to get ready 🤷🏾‍♀️ S4: 🤢 sorry OP. You mom and her partner are creepy. NTA S5: Nta. It's uncalled for to talk about someone's weight, especially when OP had a miscarriage 🤦🏽‍♂️ S6: Biggest YTA I've heard. It has nothing to do with the kids. OP just hates her niece. S7: Redditors ignored something very important: of all the songs she could sing, his spouse CHOSE to sing about an ex while her partner was right there. It's beyond disrespectful and it sucks that OP's feelings were not taken into account here.

I hate to wear make up but honestly I really don't get all the people saying OP is just as bad and stuff like that. I mean, OP was just wearing normal make up and the gf didn't like the fact that her partner was wearing make up (yes she has the right to be upset over being late, but it definitely seems like that's only part of why she was mad considering how much she ranted over the make up thing), OP tried to defend a harmless interest and the gf didn't like that? I'm also anti make up but that's no excuse to go tell someone to stop using it. Also the clown make up thing is just childish and stupid, OP had the right to say what she said, the gf clearly only wanted to spite her and drive home her point as a 'ahah take that' kinda way. I'd even be tempted to say that by using clown make up she was just thinking over making OP feel and look stupid for wearing make up, sort of 'see this is how you look' kinda way. Seriously, it's so obviously just petty and stupid spite in the face of OP's normal reasoning, how hard is it to see.

@@adog6495 Yeah right??? It was definitely spiteful. Honestly I don't blame OP for having come up with that explanation at first because if they were arguing in the heat of a discussion sometimes people don't really think of what they're saying, but the gf really just clung to that to further spite OP

counterpoint: why are you NOT upset that your brother is OPENLY suggesting that your wife cheated on you? unless YOU don't think your son is yours, you need to tell HIM to step the hell off. the fact that your wife has to defend herself at all in this situation points out how little you trust her...

Markee: “if all you eat is chicken nuggies and chicken tenders and fries, what are you doing with your life” Having a sensory problem. Usually picky eating comes from having a sensory problem like autism and it’s something that can’t be helped. In all honesty though, I’m prolly gonna be the unpopular opinion and say that OP is YTA. Her husband *did* say thank you. Sure, there was no harm in wanting your loved one to try new things; *but you were so mean about it* especially with saying he’s like a 6 year old, he’s not attractive to you, and being mean to him the day after. As someone who is a picky eater and who does have a sensory issue, I would’ve asked ‘what’s this’ too, especially with making sweet potato fries and trying to pass them off as regular potato fries. Also, she didn’t even say what the food actually *was* all she did was say “it’s your favorite meal”... girl if it was his favorite meal he would’ve recognized it.

The makeup story. Of course, bring in the patriarchy. Let's do that. Let's imagine a guy telling off his girlfriend for using makeup just 'to attract other men'. Heck, imagine him starting to wear a thong in public to 'get back' at her for wearing makeup. It's controlling af. It's childish af. And in any other case we'd be telling the girlfriend to RUN

56:16 As someone with what would be considered disordered eating (people always assume I'm picky but it's really reductive to call it that), I can weigh in on this. I'm autistic, and we didn't know until I was around 18. My entire life, there has been certain foods that I just can't eat. They can make me throw up because of the texture or send me into a panic attack or sensory overload. Because of that, there are things I refuse to eat for my own good. I know my limits, and people will say that eating things to be polite is a part of adult life, but they're coming from a place of ignorance with that. HOWEVER, if what OP says is true, and he only wants chicken nuggets and fries, he has very, very severe disordered eating habits. I have safe foods I eat when I'm already overwhelmed, or I get hyperfixated on a certain meal for a while, but it is never the only thing I eat for days on end. I think they're both assholes in this. She is not coming from a place of worry and wanting to help her husband. I think she just wants to find ways to aggravate him. He's an ass for just throwing away the food. If he doesn't have some sort of mental issue (or if he's not autistic, because while it is comorbid with mental illness a lot of the time, I don't think it's a mental disorder.), then he's just being stubborn and childish and is an asshole for that. This is a complicated situation and I think we aren't getting all of the information.
