It is not a surprise that BYD's published range rating is actually lower than the actual real world range. This has to do with the fact BYD use the CLTC test cycle rating. The CLTC rating is extremely favorable to pure EVs because it contains lots of stop/go cycles trying to reflect traffic congestion which is very common in Chinese cities. On the other hand, these high frequency stop/go cycles in the CLTC rating is extremely unfavorable to a pure ICE vehicle. The BYD Qin L is a hybrid and the majority of the range comes from the gasoline engine.

This is how normal consumers should be. In the past, when Chinese-made cars were inferior, we all bought Japan cars and German cars. Consumers don’t need to empathize with capitalists, just buy the one with the best value for money.
I am in Ireland. For most of the time in a year it doesn't need air conditioner as it is pretty cool here. The car may be able to run even longer in this scenario. If 秦L is available in Ireland market, definitely will go for it.

Rationally speaking, Japan will likely impose higher tariffs next. I believe the best approach is to allow Chinese cars to enter Japan just like Japanese cars entered China back in the day. BYD and Toyota have been cooperating, so they could form a joint venture to sell these cars in Japan. If Japan uses trade barriers to protect domestic companies like the United States, it will only weaken their competitiveness further.
The reality is China is a huge market and is totally self reliant if needed. While Japan is not, it needs to export its cars to other countries. The US can use tariff to protect its car manufacturers for now, maybe a few years, but eventually if it's industry does not lift its standards, it will be demolished by the Chinese competition. Japanese manufacturers has even less time.
No matter how you look at it, this technology and this car are epoch-making, but among the major media around the world, only Bloomberg seems to have made a special report. It’s lonely to stay awake when everyone is pretending to sleep.
