3:15 As someone who knits and crochets, 15 bucks for a hat is pretty reasonable, especially if it's a complicated stitch. It takes YEARS to get good enough to make something of high enough quality to sell to someone. Shout-out to this absolute lad. Edit: looking back, 30 bucks seems more appropriate.

"The world doesn't owe you a living" Clients getting a product/service do owe money to the provider of that product/service. That's the agreed upon exchange. That's how buying things works. The world doesn't owe people free shit because they think they're entitled to take advantage of new businesses.

3:11 Honestly as some who crochets as a hobby $15 for a top is a reasonable price, because depending on what kind of yarn the person uses they could be spending upwards of $12 for one skein of yarn. Not to mention the time it takes to do that sort of thing (we’re looking a a few hours of work for that one top). Handmade things no matter what is it will be more expensive then what you get from Amazon or Target. Side note please do not buy anything crocheted from big corporate owned stores, because not only does it encourage the belief that crocheted items are these inexpensive easy to make items but it also encourages the companies to continue to sell them. This is a problem because crochet anything cannot be made by machine like knit items can. Sorry for the rant but knowing how people shit on others because they price items according to how much time, effort, and money they spent to HAND MAKE said items because, “I can just go to the store and find something like it for half the price.” Like yeah Debora you probably could but that’s because big chain stores mass produce things like crocheted clothing while severely underpaying the people who have to make it by hand TO AFFORD TO LIVE DEBORA, THATS WHY ITS SO CHEEP DEBORA BECAUSE THOSE STORES ARNT FORCED TO PAY THEIR WORKS A LIVABLE WAGE DEBORA! Thanks for coming to my Ted talk. 🙂

Man I pay like £1 per skien because my sensory issues mean I can't wear wool and can only do cheap acrylic, and I'd still charge £15 for a hat or a crop top. Granted, I knit instead of crochet, and also draw a lot so my hands hurt more when I do it, but it takes TIME

Good god I love this subreddit... I get the same stuff in Warframe trade chat. They say "sorry, I have a better offer, can you lower your price?" I say "no, I'm selling cheap already" and they say "fine, I'll buy from the other guy" Then I see them still looking for the same item in trade chat because they're afraid to pay slightly lower than full item price.

I was shocked by how much some voice actors charge, I’m quite good at voices and I’d never even think about charging the prices you can find online, especially if it was a job that wouldn’t need multiple takes. But they definitely can be underpaid, especially if they aren’t famous.

That one who wanted someone to animate a whole-ass anime series for free really makes me laugh. I did an 11.5-minute cartoon myself, and it took me almost three years alongside all the other work I had to do to pay the bills. And it was something I WANTED to do, and got paid by Gumroad supporters to do. I can't even imagine doing someone else's vision for free, and it being a whole damn series. lol

15:41 I have a small Lawn Care business. I am so lucky and so grateful that none of my clients have this attitude. We don't charge extra to bring our own tools it's always a given that we're going to use our tools. The extra charge is coming in when you need debris(green waste) hauled away. That extra is anywhere from $50 to $150 of charge depending on how many loads being hauled & price we pay to dump it in our city. For all the stuff that this person is asking for I couldn't give you a precise dollar amount because I don't know how big the yard is. However there's no way in hell any of us would do it for a lowball amount. That's not to say we're not flexible if you're having a hard time we will most definitely work with you but if you're just outright demanding things that just rubs us the wrong way. Also if you need the work done and your backyard you better make sure that we have access to it. If we cannot get to it with our mowers and our trimmers then it's not getting done. We're not being paid to jump over fences and throw our equipment over fences.

I’ll be honest the hairdressing one is somewhat reasonable, maybe. I haven’t had my hair cut at a business in years but when I used to, they never really listened to what I wanted. I wasn’t even wanting something that complex either, to the point where my mum has been able to do what I wanted at home with very little experience, but they would always cut way too short or not really cut anything but they always charged a huge amount of money for under an hour of work. If it’s something complex then the money is worth it but if I just want my fringe trimmed and the back shortened I’m not paying £35 to have the back of my hair cut to the skin, spikes put at the top, and my fringe cut on one side and not the other.

I wouldnt put it past it just being hired out for this event and its that company rather than the venue being cheap, that being said we dont know the cost of those tickets, chances are they will be cheap and meaningless, but theres a (slim)chance they are stupidly expensive and are reasonable compensation.

I almost feel like that’s why they’re offering free tickets in exchange for photography, if buying the tickets is more than the wages of a photographer a lot of cheap people would accept the offer for the free ticket.

The ad at 4:00 actually sounds decent. Basically, he's hiring someone to help out about an hour a day on his farm. I assume it's to feed the animals and shovel plop since it's daily. Probably involves a lot of lifting and carrying hence the physical aspect. $18 for an hour's worth of work isn't terrible - most part time jobs start less than that. And farmers generally know how long a routine task takes, so they're probably not paying by the hour because they don't want to get taken advantage of. I don't see any problem with that one. Why is that on r/choosingbeggars? He's not begging and is offering money for a specific task to be done.

(this turned into a much bigger rant about the horse world than expected) Oh yeah that barn help one is VERY common. Also any "working student" barn position is literal modern day slavery. Barn work, especially for 10+ stalls AND paddocks should AT LEAST be $20 AN HOUR. More if you're working directly with the giant suicidal (and occasionally homicidal) toddlers on sticks. I occasionally hire help for my (relatively small) barn, and I know how much work it is. It's between;4-6 hours a day, most of that is cleaning. Anyone who pays minimum wage for barn work should be forced to do that exact job by themselves for a month. Preferably in the worst weather of their climate. Try cleaning stalls, scrubbing buckets, blanketing, soaking feed and feeding horses (with no hot water) in a blizzard and then tell me $5 and hour is enough.

The guys who only panhandles for 10’s and 20’s is probably only trying to take the money from rich people and leave the money to the less fortunate. That makes sense to me.

Or he’s also rich, and is just trying to profit by scamming people into thinking he’s homeless. I hate to say it but it’s a huge problem in my town, the fake homeless might even outnumber the real ones.

@@justanotheryoutubechannel I hate to say it but I really know people (in real life not, on the internet; some friends even) who panhandle to survive and I know people (in real life, not the internet) that do it to buy things like vehicles, drugs, and pay for their house mortgage etc. I’m saying that perceptive is multi-faceted. Not all panhandlers are alike. Do what you want with your money. I don’t give mine to panhandlers if I don’t know them.
