My best friend gave me a Claddagh ring as a friendship ring before she died (she had a matching one). Depending on the orientation of how it is worn and what hand reflects your relationship status. My husband didn't buy me a ring; he asked me to marry him as he switched the position of my ring. I cried and thought it was really sweet because I only explained how the rung worked once, and he, who has a notoriously terrible memory, remembered. I told my boomer coworker, and she called him cheap. I said she was one to talk, seeing as for Christmas gift exchanges, she didn't buy anything but used the event as an excuse to unload some of the hoard of shit she had in her apartment off on other people. She was not amused.

That's such a great proposal story! Back in college, I saved up enough while delivering pizzas part time to buy an engagement ring for about $150. She adored it. Later we swapped it with a ring handed down by my mother (it took us a while to afford the wedding - which itself was also done on a very limited budget with the most expensive parts being the wedding rings, but it was beautiful and a lot of fun). Money and price aren't important when it's love.

I never understood the expensive engagement ring trend. If my partner and I were at a point in our relationship where we could and wanted to get married (and I love him with my whole heart and soul, so I hope we will), he could go into my jewelry box and propose to me with a ring I already own and I would still be dang thrilled. I'm hearing you. My Mum was an avid crocheter. She used to attend small local craft fairs and exhibitions. As a backdrop for her pitch she'd use what she felt was one of her best pieces ever, a fine cotton bedspread. A chap once asked how much she's take for it though it wasn't actually for sale. She asked him to make an offer and he said "It's easily worth £50." (we're Brits) She tells him that that wouldn't cover the materials, it represented over a thousand hours of work and would he care to revise his offer. He just walked away. In the end she had to make another. She showed it to a neighbour who greatly admired it and told her she needed to make another. On asking why that would be, my Mum was told "If you don't then your sons' wives will fight over it", even though we were still kids at the time. My Mum's neighbour was wise. My brother and his wife have one. I'm not married but the one I have is treasured by my GF. I don't think either gets used much because of how utterly(!!!) irreplaceable they are.

The person who responded to the Instagram person wanting to eat at the restaurant and review it who said that "You have as much of a right to review my restaurant as I have to review your menstrual cycle" had said that, because although it shouldn't have to be said it's disrespectful to review another's menstrual cycle, her entitlement was as if she was wanting to review a part of the restaurant owner's own person, as I assume they probably feel as that this is their life's work.
@Ryanthusar
@Ryanthusar 11 ай бұрын
She was basically asking for a FREE meal and by giving it FREE she would review the restaurant. That is how she was being disrespectful, what is funny is for all its known is that the person that replied back to her could very well have been female. However you can bet there is much more to that story as well, who knows what took place at the place before that post was put up.
@trishapellis

Yeeeah look anyone has the right to go into a restaurant and leave a public review of that restaurant, because a restaurant is a public thing. I post restaurant reviews all the time. I don't ask for money and freebies because I am a nobody, and hundreds of people are not going to make their decision on whether or not to eat at this restaurant based on my review alone - restaurants invite influencers in order to get a review from someone who will hopefully *influence* hundreds of people to try the restaurant. But anyone can leave a review. If your restaurant is so tied up with your self-worth that you can't stand reviews, honestly, you should just cook for your own family instead. I sincerely believe the restaurant owner from that post was just pissed that a freeloader approached them acting like they owned the restaurant and the restaurant owed them food for being a self-proclaimed 'influencer' - they just worded it in a way that's kinda strange and confusing (though also original and striking, so there's that.)
@ETXAlienRobot201

@@trishapellis what's annoying is if you are someone with considerable pull/notoriety that you could *potentially* convince a crowd of people to [not] go to that restaurant. some random influencer? nah... major food critic, chef, etc...? absolutely.... coordinated efforts could also be utilized. i wouldn't write reviews off as no big deal though. for a fledgling business in particular, they *can* be devastating. it's not just insecurities about self-worth, they can be [and have been] weaponized. in this case, probably not much to worry about.
@Mia199603
@Mia199603 7 күн бұрын
Nah, the response was sexist and disproportionate. If the owner has such fragile ego he can't handle a review of his restaurant then he should just never leave his house and never interact with the outside world. It's a vital part of democracy and free market to choose where you spend your money and review what other people demand money for. And he weirdly focused on the review part, not the actually pertinent entitlement so that's very telling.

Sort of funny story similar to the returning food after you ate it all. Once, I was with some buddies at a Mexican restaurant, and several of us got a large horchata. I REALLY like horchata, but this time around it tasted kinda funny, a little sour. I noticed it and my friends noticed it. It was kind of like a cream cheese sour, and I actually really liked it. Turns out they didn't clean the old batch out when they made the new one (it was really late and it was 24-hrs restaurant), and offered us all a new, fresh horchata. I refused, because I REALLY like the slightly sour horchata, much to everyone's (especially the staff) horror and kept drinking it. Well, even after I drank mine, they still insisted on giving me a second, free horchata, and those things were HUGE. I was happy. Everyone else was far more grossed out than they should. The next day I had slight indigestion and that was all I suffered. 11/10, would drink sour horchata again.

I’m making some stuff for a 1/4 scale model and it took me easily 6 hours today to make about half the hood of what will be a full length cloak. It’s going to take at least a week’s worth of free time to make something that is 1/4 the size of a piece of human clothing, and I had to stop today because my fingers went numb from the repetitive wrist motion. I can’t even imagine spending years getting good at it, buying all the materials, working for essentially $1 an hour to make a completely custom piece, and then having the person complain about the cost.

As someone who has lost a fair bit of weight quickly once (a little over ten or so pounds in about a month, I think?) it was not fun. I wanted to lose the weight for quite some time, but losing it made me realize my current weight is what’s healthiest for me. I lost it during my schools musical. They only had one pair of pants for my costume that was the right size for my legs, unfortunately, the waist was a bit over two inches smaller than I needed. They couldn’t do any adjustments to said pants so I needed to keep those on for rehearsals, dance numbers, really all of the time. I did have a costume change, but those pants were just as tight around the waist. I couldn’t eat, it restricted me to the point where I couldn’t eat in costume because the slightest change in my stomach would be unbearable, so I just didn’t. I already have low iron, so I was consistently dizzy, and when I wasn’t wearing my costume I couldn’t eat as much as my body needed because I just didn’t have the appetite anymore. TL;DR, Robin is right, losing weight with minimal effort can be awful. And caused me several head injuries due to lightheadedness.

The post about the handmade crochet actually made me realize how addicted we are to our industrialized production. Our wages and costs are so adapted to what running machines cost, that it has become entirely infeasible to make good manually and still charge reasonable prices.

okay, about the crochet clothes, honestly she's right. i don't sell my crochet and if i did i would only sell plushies and bags because the one time i decided to crochet a pullover it took me a literal month. i imagine it would take less if it was my full-time job and i had 8 hours a day to sit down and crochet, but also you physically cannot crochet for 8 hours straight every single day because it can very seriously injure your hands and wrists with the repetitive motions, and crochet specifically has the added point that it can't be done by machine at all, every single stitch must be done individually by hand. it takes 2 hours to make something that can fit inside my hand. imagine a full article of clothing.

I actually had a couple of women come through my drive thru and a restaurant I work at and they ordered two meals and then ate the chicken and not the sides and then came back and demanded a refund and were shocked when we said no cause they already ate the food. Honestly I really like the idea of the Buy Nothing groups, even if it does have some weird stuff on there. My Mom has an old iPad she might get rid of, and we have a few old monitors around the house. If I saw that I might take the time to go down there and drop it off. If I was the stereotypical "my kid doesn't deserve the PS5 anymore" awful parent, giving it to someone else seems like a better and less wasteful option than just throwing it away.

to be fair, there's a concentrated brainwashing/indoctrination effort to make people enlist. not to mention a horrible economy to force their hands. and the draft always *could* be exercized like it was for vietnam. i've personally never necesarrily questioned the discount, but i do wonder how many guys have simply requested one and that's it, discounted. seems to me that the rare occassion someone orders from my club's food booth and requests the discount, that we just... do it. all that said, probably stems from our uhm...culture of "respect our troops/veterans/fallen". quite possibly also the fact that we basically do NOT take care of our veterans, some so unfortunate to become homeless in addition to various wounds/scars inflicted upon them in war.

@@orangequill1645 we have a lot of these types of things strewn through our society/country. [at least in the US] and all have the same fundamental problem that at the end of the day, a line was drawn. plenty of civilian jobs where daily risking of life is a thing. what about them? not all military positions carry the same risk, either. plenty where you're quite safe, save for the terrorist that "magically appears with no warning" in the homeland at your base. there was more, but i'll leave it at that. also the morals/ethics of military and police work are quite foggy. which also weighs-in on that discount/freebie. genuinely awful people *shouldn't* be given the treatment of a hero "just cuz they played that part".

"Mercerized" cotton thread or yarn is 100% cotton but has been through extra processing beyond just cleaning. It strengthens the thread, making it wear out/break less over many washings, makes it more receptive to the dye color & gives a smooth feeling semi-gloss finish. The process makes it better to use when making many kinds of items, but it does make the thread/yarn cost a bit more of course. If you're only buying a little to make a couple items you might think the difference in price of a few cents per yard is no big deal, but for someone having a business making many items that means that the cost of supplies goes up a lot when they're buying in bulk. Since she's talking about crocheted clothing items, you'd want all natural fibers (cotton, wool, silk, etc) rather than polyester or poly blends because that will just be scratchy against skin.

Man shits hitting hard lately. Between seeing something on my favorite show where these two characters who lost it all basically find a bonding moment in it with the message "you're not alone" and repeatedly finding things that show others who went above and beyond and got burned for it... My experience happened over 7 months ending in December and I've spent the last week recovering from a self destructive state from it. My point in all that is a combo of "it's nice to know in the worst of things I'm not alone" and passing the message of "if you're going through or have been through this, i hope you understand you're not alone" ❤

About that ring situation, I agree with Robin (as a female). My mother bought the wedding rings for her and my father. She said she got the set (I think of 3 rings) of rings for under R4000. (approximately 214, 70 USD). But then again, she bought it in like.. The year 2004. But still.

@13:00 People shouldn't be allowed to deny strangers access to their homes to use the pool the owner pays for and maintains. People shouldn't be allowed to have cars unless they leave the keys inside so strangers who don't own a car can freely use it whenever they want. People shouldn't be allowed to have more than one set of clothes unless they allow strangers to come inside their house whenever they want and borrow any clothes at any time. People should be allowed to have things unless everyone else in the world can have access to use those things. Also, 100% this bitch is the kind that would let her kids run wild in a pool, not pay any attention to them, have one get hurt or even drown, and then blame/try to sue the pool owner who wasn't home and never gave them permission to be there.

I've had a messed up drink at Starbucks at least three times. I've never drank any because it was either not my taste or dangerous. I'd always try to speak up as soon as possible despite being an absolute doormat and a people pleaser. I asked immediately once because the lady forgot to change the milk to oatmilk. It's not just a preference of mine but I'm also lactose intolerant which makes it worse. So I immediately went to the cashier as soon as I noticed the inconsistency in the bill. And the cashier was super apologetic. Since the drink was half made they were able to salvage it. Another time they straight up made another drink. My drinks of choice are very simple. An iced or hot small latte with oatmilk. And the guy handed me an americano. I told him he messed up. He read on the cup and made a new drink. The third time I got really pissed. The lady mistook three of the same drinks as frappuccinos and added whipped cream on them. I tried to ask the lady which kind of whipped cream she used on top. She didn't answer me or didn't understand me for some reason. And offered to do a new drink all together. The other lady said to just take out the whipped cream and it was all good. I would've drank it as is if it didn't have milk in it. Since I can't drink it! I think it also happened on my birthday. What a good day to have.
