Some details regarding the materials: The Shell Cordovan used is sourced from a renowned Italian manufacturer that also provides spigarelli for their own tabs . I have still my first piece of that Cordovan on my tab, after 4 years with only a slight thinning on the curvature point, due to pressure rather than wear. The synthetic material is called Vulkollan and this is the stuff that make the wheels of forklifts or other similar items that need to withstand pressure and chemicals. It is virtually indestructible and as it is vulcanized, it retains its dimensions after being stressed.

Think my Nudo tabs are currently 3-4 years old now with Cordovan leather. They have lasted so well and continue to use them :)

I've got some of that Vulkollan stuff. It starts to stiffen and get brittle with age, after a couple of years it crumbles easily.

​@@mrnice752 i also use vulkullan material for my tabs since a while and its not thought to stay as long as cordovan, but as good and at several situations eg heavy rain quite better=constant behaviour. In my opinion one of best alternative material for tabs and it is relatively cheap material , therefor no matter to exchange after 12-18 months.

Just a quick point on World Archery Rules. Both rules 22.3.8.1 (for Field) and 11.4.8.1 (for Target) state "These marks shall be uniform in size, shape and colour and may have up to two different lengths" so you cannot have 2 different colours or shape marks. The only variation allowed is in length.

Great review Jake. That synthetic tab face looks like it is very similar, just slightly different colour to the Spiga Vulcolan tab face. I use one of those for exactly the reason you mention - it's often wet in the UK!

Looks very similar to the Spigarelli BB+ Brass which I use and think is excellent. It uses a three loop flat elastic system which is super secure and a finger spacer “peg” so you can adjust the depth of fit to your preference. It does have laser etched crawl marks in 2 sizes.

I started shooting with this tab a couple of months ago before I broke my arm. The first thing I did was swap the leather out for kangaroo leather. Then it was perfect. The metal plate is the nicest that I've come across.

I know cordovan has been used for decades now, as tab-leather. I used it myself, … but since trying out the fairweather-tab, I don’t think I will ever shoot anything else then kangooroo-leather. I tested and found that it does not need a breaking-in-time. After two sets of arrows, i got identical results from my old fw-tab to mt spare one

Love that Horween Cordovan. Better than the Italian stuff, at least to my testing. I was able to purchase one full shell of Horween Cordovan for 150€ from a leather import supplier here in Germany and was happy as can be. They told me sometimes horse leather is sold as Cordovan and maybe it looks like it, but it's not that durable but supple piece of hide from the horses rear end.

Hey Jake did you ever tried grinded and polished stingray leather. It has bone pearls in it, due to grinded and polished pearls in half its very smooth and weather has no effect on it. The release is much smoother and faster. And after using it over 2 years i do not see a tear off of the leather and the serving hold 2 times longer then before.

I am using an XL avalon (comes with only one mark, which I may be allowed to make a second mark on !), I do not have "large" hands (IMHO) but the L is marginal (I do have to cut an extra layer to aid finger comfort !)

A bit of a side question : what is your current leather setup (nb layers, type, ..) on your recurve tab (a KSL Gold, right ?) ? Do you have to buy the high quality Cordovan to a specific place/website, or is the standard KSL Cordovan layer already the high quality you're mentioning ?

Not sure why that face that has the notches on it needs to be at such a steep angle. It could be shallower or just with a little radius to it that would probably make it a lot easier for those of us with chunky thumbs. It's a shame because I like the idea of deep notches that you can get your thumbnail into.

I almost got a bicaster and took someone’s to check the leather out that was new, bent it backwards to see if I could feel a grain and it cracked. Is $150 after shipping or something or is the exchange that bad?

Definitely not! They claim to use Cordovan but they are clearly not. I know several people using the Zniper tab, and every tab face started to peel after a while. Because they use cheap cowhide with PU coating. A friend of mine wrote them a mail explaining it. That was a year ago and they still say it's cordovan on their Website. Looks like fraud to me. Would be as if I told you it's made of gold but it's brass instead.

Can absolutely confirm chrisbowman that znipertab got no cordovan but synthetic mixed leather and the german provider of this leather is not willing to describe it like that (even after discussion on that). It doesnt last more than 500 shots before surface get destroyed- better to invest money on original cordovan and get no problems for years, tab(holding item) itself is a good one

It´s not 2 different marks allowed but two different lengths. You can add as many marks as you want.
